Hi, I just adopted a kitten. around 8month. Any suggestion what should I do to her in order she wont run away? I'm putting in a cage. How long should I put in a cage b4 I can let it go out & play around? It's that true that I need to cut a little bit of her mustache so that she wont remember way back to her previous owner?
*
First of all Congratulations on your new pet.
To prevent your cat from running away from the house you MUST cat proof your house.
Meaning..... put wire mesh on the window grills, door grills.
Putting her in a cage for 24/7 will stress her.
I dont believe in caging a cat unless it is sick or when I am cleaning the house.
Secondly NEVER NEVER cut your cats whiskas.
There is NO such thing as cutting the cats whiskas it will not remember its way back to the previous owner.
A cat"s whiskas is to help it to navigate around.
By cutting it, you will make your cat lose its navigation to go through holes or to lose its senses.
Dont believe in old folks tale ok? shakehead.gif

guys..juz wanna ask sumthing here..how to minimize the twisted like fur from under the belly of my DLH?....a bit hard for me to cut them as i've to do it alone...brought to the vet to ask for help but the lady doc also couldn't do it as my Lilo will be very 'garang' when i bring her to the vet...she will started to make the hissing sound and will try to scratch everyone even me too...but she's actually a very gentle cat in the house...she can only can get along with my other cat....brought her to my auntie's house also she became like that because my auntie also have cats....seems like she couldn't stand other cat's scent.
*
In order to stop the hair under the body being tangled you should brush it daily.
Buy a good grooming comb which is not sharp at the edges.
Find a rounded steel brush.
Then comb the hair (lawan arah) only then comb like usual.

To untangle the hairs under the belly... dont cut it off but instead cut from above the tangle then slipt the hair into two and then slowly pull it apart. This way its easier to open the tangle rather then just cut it off and the fur will look ugly.

Good Luck!

If I'm not mistaken, you can't neuter them while they're on heat. You should wait until the heat is over, then you can neuter your cat. I read this somewhere. When the cat gets on heat, they're noisy & loud. You need to be very very patient. This can go on for a week at least.
*
Correction.....
Yes you can neuter a female cat when she is on heat however it will be slightly risky as the ovaries are swollen with blood and might loose a lot of blood during the operation.
I have sent several female stray cats who were on heat to be spayed and all went well.
So nothing to worry about.

thanks all
will probably make appointment to get her spayed this weekend
do you know if there is any need to board her ?
also, i already have another cat at home (neutered male). Maybe its a silly questions, but after getting her spayed is there any need to separate them until the wound heals ?
*
No need to board.
Better to take care of your cat yourself.
Actually not hard at all to take care of cats after being nuetered or spayed.
For a female cat its best to cage them at least for a week.
Reason why, is to limit her movements so that the stiches will not open.
Everyday, you will need to check the wound to see if it is dry and healing nicely.
Once the wound has healed and dried up nicely then you can let her roam freely.

hi,

thanks for the info very much. so now i just make sure my kitty have vaccine and the export/import permit?

how long do i need to get it and how much will it cost? i read that i can handcarry the kitty, will normal cage sufficient?

really thank you !
*
New rules....
Must get rabies shot and microchipped.
If you hand carry your cat then it will be considered as a luggage and you will be charged RM10.00 per kg. Depending on the weight of your cat smile.gif
Please take note that Jabatan Haiwan will issue a health certificate valid for a certain period (not sure wheter 72 hours or a week) so you must travel within that period of the health certificate will expire and you will need to go through the whole process again.

Aih, i cant go back sabah to handle all these stuff, i have to depend on my relative to do so, but I am so attached to mykitty already. My mom who currently in kl with me, are supporting me but she warn me how difficult it may be. My friend keep wondering why I cant just be happy with my cats here,  i have 4 cat currently, one of them are blind cat.

I can't leave my cat in sabah, I am not saying that my aunt dont love her enough, but I feel that I am the one responsible and I know i can give her a better live if she is with me.

I'll try my best to get her to be by my side.

so here I need to do now;

1) make sure all her vaccination including rabies is done
2) get microchip registered, i think the Kepayan ones should have since we need to have this done to get our cats move around, right?
3) Import/Export documents.

do i get everything alright here?
*
I had no troubles at all when transporting my cat from Sabah to Sarawak.
If I am not mistaken you need to go to the Jabatan Haiwan's office in Jalan Penampang where the Arkib Negeri is.
The last time my father was directed to go there.
Please call Jabatan Haiwan Kepayan to make sure icon_rolleyes.gif

I checked with Animal Medical centre (Jalan Tun Razak) and they said have to board for minimum one night... RM300 for spaying ......
Is this a normal price ? or is this vet just very expensive ?
*
Yes, this vet is very expensive.
If your cat is a normal DLH or DSH you can neuter it at Klinik Kembiri Setapak.
Price is RM40 for male and RM60 for female.
This is the price I am getting.
Normal is RM50 for male and RM90 for females.
No need to board at all.
Just make sure you fast your cat the day before and then bring it for the operation.
You can bring it back the same day.
Other private vets are charging RM80 for males and RM120 to RM180 for females.

Some cats at my hostel keeps meowing non stop. Friskies (the best I can afford) don't want, water oso don't want.
Do they need something else? sweat.gif
*
Kittens meowing can be many reasons the most important is looking for its mum.
Secondly if it is under one month old it still needs to be fed with milk.

Yes, it is the one at animal medical centre.
gpet mostly for dogs? mine is cat.
Having trouble to fine boarding centre for upcoming Hari Raya.
*
I never send my cats to boarding.
Usually what I will do is get a good friend or neighbour to help me to look after my cats.
I will ask them to come over to my house at least twice per day to feed and clean my cats and at the same time they will also help me to look after the house.
Of course I will pay them for their efforts.
At least your cat will be in its familiar surroundings and will not get stressed while you are away.

Hi there ClicknStick,

Sorry to inform you that the supplier is having problems with Quit at the moment.
Apparently Thailand is out of a few certain raw products and have stopped manufacturing for the time being.
Right now I only have Cats Agree priced at RM3.30 per tin.
Or KiwiSafe from New Zealand priced at RM3.50 per tin.

she's like chicken act, really disturbing while you want to have a meal, she's like real fried chicken, not food in the tin, seafood sardin, tuna, prawn jelly, ocean fish, meat cant beat the chicken,

i not remember her weight
*
If she is underweight you might want to send her for a check up at the vet.
Maybe there might be an undelying problem.
No harm in getting her checked anyway.

To increase her appetite you can give her B complex pills (buy from HUKM) as the pills are small and easy to feed to the cats. Vitamin B complex will stimulate her appetite. Another option will be multivitamin called Uphavit which UPM usually dispenses to me when my cat is having diarhhea or sick to stimulate their appetite.

Another option is to feed her high protein foods like boiled chicken breast mixed with cheese or boiled egg. All this food is high in protein and will fatten your cat in no time.

Good Luck.

she will reject it, feed with force?
*
Of course not!
Just slowly open the mouth, put the pill far back into her throat, close her mouth and slowly stroke her neck so that she will swallow the pill.
Never, never feed your cat with force shakehead.gif
If you dont know how to do it, please google on YOUTUBE.

could try what i did for my kitten when she was sick .. i crush it up and mix it into wet food . cos she is quite greedy she ate everything without a problem. some cats are more picky, but it is worth a try
*
Yes, its a good idea Pinkdalmation however the smell of the Vitamin B complex pill is very strong when crushed so not avisable.
Better to pop it into the mouth.
Another way is to put the pill inside wet food and let the cat it it.
I learned this from the vet smile.gif

My dear PCMINC,

Of course the cats will claw at you when you try to feed it medicine but with the right techniques they will not claw you. Try what PinkDalmation or what I said earlier then your cat will not claw you if you are afraid.
My hands and legs are full with scratches from my cats but I dont mine as I love them very much.

Basically when a persian has no cert it will be called a Domestic Long Hair cat.
Unless your Aunty's cat is registered with CFA, TICA, FIFE etc then it will be called a Persian.
Roughly market price is less than RM500.00 for a Domestic Long Hair Cat.

lol DLH cat? i went to see a cat in Pet safari at ikano power centre...they had a persian fully flat face cat..selling for rm2k..no certificate..is that DLH also? but why so expensive? but then this guy's cat doesnt have cert..
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2159600/all
*
Yup... DLH.
That is why people get cheated easily.
With RM2K you can get a pet quality cat with cert.
Like I said if the cat does not have a cert it will be known as a DLH or DSH even though its a pure breed.
I have a pure breed Exotic Short hair cat but since it does not have a cert it is known as a Domestic Short hair Cat in the world of cats.

it cant be loh...its like most of the shops and online business sells persian cats at the price of rm2k and above without cert. and your wrong..quality cat with certificates are around 3k above..check junnie87 first post..the cat cert+quality = rm3.5k
*
Well... up to you.
You asked for an opinion and I gave mine. rolleyes.gif
FYI, I have lots of friends who are breeders eg Maine coons, Persians etc and for a show quality price would be RM3k and above.
Some catteries will sell pet quality for as low as RM2k and above.
Pricing also depends on the position of the nose of a persian cat.
The higher the nose the higher the price
The lower the nose the lower the price.
In your case the cat is only semi flat face so the value is definitely lower.
You can check out Mudah.com and you can find many cats like your Aunt's cat with prices as low as RM700 to RM500.00
