Anyone facing extremely slow DiGi 3G with Lumia 800?

- when they put my sim card into iPhone, the 3g is fast.
- when they put the demonstration phone sim card into my phone, the 3g works.
- when I put my sim card into lumia 800, 3g is sooooooo slow!

I've changed many new sim cards already.

this is my 2nd lumia 800(digi changed a new set for me) and when i went to nokia shop and put in celcom Telco aim card, the speed is also very slow compared to my sim card in their lumia 800(they have same firmware but theirs is first batch)

i had my phone changed a new motherboard at nokia care and the issue still persist. im inclined to believe that the phone has problem with digi malaysia and the telcos, even though not all lumias are.

i believe all the phones which i received are from the same production batch which have consistently showed its inability to use 3g speed. i have used 3 lumia with 3 imei already.

Anyone else with me in this 3G internet issue?

I heard many complaints people using digi have this issue. I am using maxis the speed is awesome. Have u tried another telco simcard to see whether is it the phone issue or digi telco issue
*
yes on celcom it works fine. But on my set loading speed for celcom is also significantly slower compared to the sets from Nokia store.

I'm inclined to believe that this is a production batch defect, I heard that digi online store brings in the 2nd batch (which I believe all 3 of my motherboards are of the same batch) while the nokia stores were the first batch.

Damn this DiGi does not even want to acknowledge such a problem and just keep quiet and offered to change a phone but the new phone is still having the same issues. Even the DiGi store manager is having a hard time helping me out as they are going to have a big headache when they bring the phone in to the stores.

Point is, who else can we refer to and really ask them to fix. I'm pretty sure the guys at Digi used the demo sim card to test the phones, which is blazingly fast in 3G, but when used consumer sim card the speed is a fail, it's even worst than gprs.

Is there by any chance due to the slow download speed? my maxis in 3G it reaches 2mbps and celcom 1.4mbps. What about your digi? could be it 384kbps cause the slowness in the lumia? Maybe the demo sim is 7.2mbps speed. Just my 2 cents
*
Even if it is slow it couldn't be way slow till you can't post twitter, open www.google.com, www.gmail.com, facebook etc. Opening those pages mostly gives me a failed to retrieve page error, failed to retrieve data, if I'm lucky then I can get to open it after maybe 2 to 3 minutes wait.

Also, over the past 3 weeks, I've only had a 20 hours (a particular day) that the speed is perfectly fine, smooth 3g internet browsing speed. Just that 20 hours.

It's even slower than my E72 and N82 with my sim card.

i guess thats a very serious issue. Never faced such issue on my lumia 800 with maxis. Alternative i can recommend try your sim card on another unit diig have if still low confirm unit have compatibility with digi.

How the speed on WIFI?
*
WiFi is perfectly fine, the only problem is the 3G is extremely slow, heard that the new firmware is still having same issue.

can't even load speedtest.net ... can't even load pages, the loading bar just hang there with white page. Gave up setting anything, the phone simply doesn't use 3G at all even though there's 'H' icon. It just fail.

Okay I managed to get my DiGi 3G problem fixed, after many trial and errors.

Apparently on 1600.2483.8107.11501 (v4) and 1600.2487.8107.12070 the firmwares are fine for DiGi, but the problem lies in 'Network Setup' application which comes with the firmware.

Supposingly that application is needed to be run when you change your sim card to another network and bypass the need to reset your phone for new telco settings, but apparently running that application (version 1.1.3.0 or 1.4.0.0 latest) will totally cripple your DiGi 3G internet.

What you have to do is to totally do not even run that application at all, (best if you uninstall network setup application) once you formatted your phone. That application will ruin the 3G internet connectivity

the other day i was switching the lumia from maxis to digi sim card and then couldnt even get anything not even GPRS to surf the web, tried all the method at last have to resort to hard reset to get my the mobile data connection up. Cant even call out keep putting call ended. after hard reset everything work fine back.
*
It seems you need that "Network Setup" app to be runned to get your phone work when you change sim card. But as of now the app will totally cripple all internet connectivity. I can reproduce this problem everytime i run that app.

I've mailed Stephen and he'd notified the head of engineering about this.

Guess we'll just need to wait for new updates of this app before we can use our phone with multiple telco sim cards.

So unlike Nokia Symbian that has 2 choices, Nokia Suites or Window Explorer to move files etc, you only have Zune?

Once you transferred file to pc using zune, I presume you can use WE to see the files? Things that are important to me are photos/contacts/calender. I have no interest in music.
*
You can only sync photos musics with zune the same way iPhone syncs with itunes. As for your contacts, calender it is all sync to the cloud(sky drive) using your windows live ID

windows phone relies heavily on data and cloud.

so meaning cannot simply change sim card like that? this is quite a serious problem considering something that has been hyped again and again and they overlooked this problem? No internet connectivity nevermind, i couldnt even call out or received any calls. not to mention my sms was delayed for a good 10 mins before receiving it.
*
I'm quite sure they are looking into a fix for it, I've mailed the boss and he'd forward it to the head of engineering and acknowledged this problem. Hopefully in version above 1.4 of network setup, this will fix everything with telco issues in malaysia.

My battery goes way over 24 hours when I'm on EDGE mode, 1 hour sync of Windows Live / People Hub / Email / Wifi On

The latest firmware extended the battery alot, however if you start to use 3G mode, it still drains your battery significantly. Therefore, I have EDGE mode activated when I let it sync when I'm not using and only turn on 3G when I really need that speed to browse.

Hey all, anyone have issues with their 3g connectivity? Got my 800 from digi and I can't get any data. Wifi and calls work fine.
*
There's two scenario in which you will face such problem.

#1 is if you had another telco sim card in and you switch to your current sim card. By right you should run Network setup to get the new settings for the new sim card. But as of now this is not workable as it will cripple your internet settings. Seems like they hardcode the settings into the phone.

#2 is once you get your phone from digi, you start reading the manuals and thought that running 'network setup' would give you the latest 3g, mms settings etc. turns out running it right now will completely almost 90% fail your internet settings. it's a totally bugged application as of now.

They have pulled the app from the marketplace (v 1.4) and right now all we can do is to reset the phone, then uninstall network setup app as the phone works fine during installation, it detects the digi settings correctly, you don't need to run that app at all to get internet and mms.

Downside is you can't switch sim card to another operator without doing a reset as of now.

Hope this clears up.

p/s: using india new firmware 1600.2487.8107.12070 and the battery is outstandingly lasting with EDGE mode. 3G is still sucking every battery charge out there. Recommend to use 3G when you really need and turn EDGE on when you let it sync in your pocket, idling. On edge with few hours of calling and wifi usage, battery can last over 25 hours.

p/p/s: there seems to be a new bug right now with the new firmware. Over time, the wifi stops detecting wifi signals at all randomly, and would need a phone restart. anyone facing such new problems with new firmware?

I just got my Lumia 800 about half a week ago. Here are some problems I faced.

#1: SIM telco codes take long to load and sometimes fail. I'm a Hotlink user so, *100# will bring up the EasyMenu. This takes about 30 seconds, provided it doesn't fail.

#2: Unable to reply those SIM telco codes. All I see is an OK button, without an option for me to key in any numbers. This means I can't change my activ10 or check my rewards or anything else for that matter.

#3: Short battery life. I get about 1 day's worth of battery for every charge. I only use wifi at home for whatsapp and a lil facebook.

#4: The end call button doesn't end the call. I faced this twice, and on both occasions, I had to restart my phone.

Anyone here has any solutions for the aforementioned problems? Thanks!

telco menu can never be fix. it is an os issue. heard that there used to be a ussd reader app.

for digi i use *#128*1*1# to check usage. it will work if u know how to execute the short codes to the telco menu to the exact function.

Thanks.  smile.gif  Didn't know that until you posted it here. Can I ask, is there any way for me to check the data usage? For Digi. I'm always careful with my data usage because I scared I might use too much at a time but then I scare I didn't really utilize the data plan given to me.

Please enlighten my problem. Thank you!  biggrin.gif

I think they wouldn't overcharge you for data plan, only limit your speed.

anyway if you didn't start viewing videos through internet, don't think you will finish 1gb of data in a month anytime soon.

pretty sure internet sharing will come to this phone soon along with lots of current issues getting fixed.

We probably just need to give them some time.

Did you hard reset once and register your phone again with the same Name?

I get few duplication of folders too in my case. Then again they are ditching zune soon and we won't expect a iTunes type of syncing and backing up software till the next Windows Phone sync software is release.

The new network setup 1.6 allows you to manually key in apn settings.

In which you can key in 'diginet' for your internet settings to work.

However, I can't seem to let mms work. I'm using this setting. Wonder what's wrong.

APN = digimms
Proxy = 203.092.128.160
Port = 80
Username = mms
Password = mms
Server = Not Set
MMSC = http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms

you need data connection to send/receive your media files.
*
It's not about that. Maybe you should read up what's going on among some digi users of lumia 800 having issues with 3g settings in network setup.

The updated app now brings in manually keying in apn for internet and mms settings.

I think you can't find any full size screen protector in the market at all and they probably will never come since N9 has been out for that long already. The sellers often cite that the screen is curve and they will tell you the screen protectors will never stick to the full glass. The ones on the market only cover the area of the screen, not the full size. Even Nokia original screen protector covers the screen size only.

Well, I prefer to cover the whole glass so I chose this, but it isn't really a screen protector as it collects alot of dust, sort of the type of plastics which just gives you a cover of the whole screen (I can remove it and restick it back easily using the water method), just that you have to somehow bear with the dusts collected and clean it often.

hye guys..wanna ask..

1. my lumia is very lag for tile update 'me' if there is any notification..do you guys have the same problem?

2. if i already commented frens status in fb thru people hub and my frens replied the comment, does it show new notification from people hub or not?
*
There's an OS limitation where your wifi sleeps when your phone sleeps (phone lock). When it is brought back to awake mode, it will reconnect wifi and start downloading whatever notifications pushes back (if your mobile data is off).

It has been addressed many times by users and probably this is something bugging users with heavy pushes and mails.

Thanks for your reply. Seems like I need choose whether need to buy it from Amazon. Costs me RM 35 while screen protector sells here is RM3 or RM5.

Btw, based on your explanation there, if I were to downloading something, the phone went to sleep, and downloading task is running in the background? It is not gonna to use wifi but use the mobile data?  smile.gif
*
If i'm not mistaken it will always use wifi first regardless of carrier data mode (mms will be exception).

So it will be off when your screen saver kicks in, and will fallback to carrier data mode.

I don't know whether some programs have the ability to access more apis to run wifi every subsequent intervals to retrieve pushes or not. Things are quite vague on this. I do know that my whatsapp will only retrieve pushes when I run the program and keep it as one of the 5 tasks to multitasked.

But you can be assured that if you charge your phone, the wifi will not sleep, from what others say on other boards.
