Two-bus collision causes 10km jam at Penang Bridge

GEORGE TOWN: Four factory workers were hurt when their bus collided with another at Tun Dr Lim Choon Eu Highway here.

The factory bus, with 40 workers from Bayan Lepas industrial area, was rammed from behind while waiting at the traffic lights at 6.15am.

The crash caused a 10km traffic congestion from Penang Bridge to Bayan Lepas industrial area

"The impact of the crash sent two cars in the queue crashing while two seats in the bus were thrown out of the vehicle," said Penang traffic police chief DSP Abdul Rahim Md Din.

One of the factory workers suffered a fractured leg while three others were admitted at Penang Hospital.

Murni Hayati Zainal Abidin, 27, said she was tying up her hair getting ready for work when the bus stopped for the traffic lights to change.

"Suddenly, I felt a crash form behind the bus and people screaming for help," she said at the Penang Hospital here.

Her friend Noraini Razali, 40, who was sitting on the right side of the bus suffered a fractured leg. BERNAMA
