Maybe i heard wrongly from halo, hahaha.
Well, for CPU it is possible, but surely need a new mask. (think of the chopped cores and reduced L2 cache). If no nit new mask, i'll go up and find u to discuss our big profit business ady biggrin.gif

p/s: oi, I offwork at 4.30pm one la, i am OT-ing without $, must enjoy a bit to release tension one ma tongue.gif
*
yup, structured asic is also like that
it's the mask tat really kills
offwork so soon? damn, any vacancies at ur place? tongue.gif laugh.gif

QUOTE(halo @ Nov 21 2006, 10:38 PM)
hahah, Freedom, so far so good? how's the food in cafeteria?  laugh.gif
*
erm, still ok
cafeteria's food is ok, just repetitive tongue.gif laugh.gif

Official offwork time is early, but the work always have to finish beyond working hours. You want meh? tongue.gif

Hey, are u doing layout design there?
Actually for big company like Intel and AMD, they still can bear the cost of masks.

See how many steppings they produced? K8 alone has up to G step, and Core 2 already goes into G step now. Merom on Santa Rossa platform will be on E stepping (E1 in specific), imagine how many masks Intel is using biggrin.gif
*
nah, not layout design
but we have to know a bit
my company dun like to produce so many masks
they prefer to produce mature masks(that will be after so many revisions in the foundry sweat.gif)
and also ur company have their own fabs so it's easier to control tongue.gif

the clock tree ????? he he he he
use FPGAs. They have global clock nets and regional clock nets with minimum skew. I never need to think about them anymore. What's more, they have DCM and PLL inside the FPGA that allows me to deskew , re-synthesize the clock and so on. Wonderful stuff.
*
haha, we're using networks similar to FPGA tongue.gif

QUOTE(ikanayam @ Nov 22 2006, 09:25 AM)
Haha yeah. Super important stuff which n00bs always ignore forget to plan for in their designs when doing ASIC projects. I had quite a bit of fixing to do last semester because my teammates completely ignored the issue, and i forgot to tell them earlier.
*
lmao, i'm not headache doing the muxes and networks
but more into the proper definitions of it (some ppl just won't want to change their damn flow dry.gif)

QUOTE(charge-n-go @ Nov 22 2006, 10:18 AM)
Oh well, i think Freedom's job scope is not suppose to use FPGA to replace clock network laugh.gif
*
ah, to a certain extend, there are some similarity
but if use FPGA's network to replace the current one, it'll be damn mind boggling to shrink the die size(FPGA have too much redundancy)

So you are a structure ASIC design engineer ?

for the moment, yes tongue.gif

well, maybe u can start off with DSP architecture and slowly branch towards graphics engine
i'm sure fishchicken has lotsa articles on it

lol, i guess it depends wat u wanna focus it on
some ppl when doing DSP, they use it as an intended signal processing(filters)
but some ppl are only interested in it's mathematical prowess
how to develop the a DSP that uses the multiplier methods that have a balance between intended workload(bit size) and speed
i have one person at my company that is all crazy about multipliers
as long as it can improve speed, he'll be very interested on how to implement into our hardware laugh.gif

I thought it was 68HC11 and not 6800?

lol, i remember linking up to that, writing code with MS text in ASM and using Kermit to upload it to the MC praying the gods of serial would allow it through at 2400 bps.

You are right smile.gif That is what am I doing smile.gif  blush.gif  blush.gif 2nd semester only mar  blush.gif Please forgive my noob-ness

ss 68HC11 same with 6800 ??

same architecture concept but different derivatives
last time i used this program to check my codings b4 executing on the actual board
