OK, i am now at this stage

9. Then select "Yes - install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" to confirm

but it says :

E: Error in /sdcard/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
(status 0)
Installation aborted

is this supposed to show up?

anyways, how do you know when your phone is properly rooted or not?
*
Try the install again.

Just install Titanium Backup after that and if it launches without giving you a warning you're rooted.

ehhh any ppl here problem with the ringtone?
Mine will automatic changed to another song or ringtone once i restart my phone.... it also happens to all my notification sound too.

Refer to page 114-115 of this thread for the solution.

Basically you will need to replace a system app by copy pasting and overwriting.

Here's the flow:
1. Download htcsoundsetmanager.apk (link courtesy of @teh_master).
2. Use ES File Explorer, go to settings and make sure "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System" is ticked, then exit settings.
3. Copy the downloaded htcsoundsetmanager.apk and paste it in system/app, confirm to overwrite existing folder and merge.
4. Reboot phone and you're done.

For those of you experiencing Sense force close on reboot, make sure all your applications are moved to internal phone storage:

1. Go to Settings,Applications,SD Card
2. Untick applications that have a tick, you will go into a sub menu, select "Move to Phone"

Note: I noticed not all apps in SD card will cause this issue, only certain apps. But to be safe just move everything to internal phone memory. Another possible fix I found in XDA is to reboot to recovery and "Fix Permissions", give it a try as well.

anyone try to play HD 1080p mkv movie before?
is the video playable? izzit jerky or smooth?

thanks
*
I tried playing one mkv 720p, abit jerky, avi runs fine though, was using mx video player so not sure if that's the cause.

QUOTE(helload @ Jan 30 2012, 09:43 AM)
Allright thanks Azel!

Currently i havnt try to install it again tho, but i got the icon "superuser" or is it an app?

So does dat mean im rooted or i need tp try install it again until no error message?
*
Hmm, you have the superuser app already, just try the install again, for me last time it also failed a few times before success, it was stated in the guide isn't it?, I can't remember.

QUOTE(teh_master @ Jan 30 2012, 09:31 AM)
well done azel for your detail guide above.

btw i had crazy battery drain since yday noon. checked non weird app which is running at background, didnt install anythin funny thou nor changing any setting / tweaks. battery drained 40% for 5 hrs overnite during idle. goshhh.. gonna try calibrate the battery later and monitor.. *scratch head..
*
Have you turned off "Enable Always On Mobile Data"?, that options kills my battery in no time and I do not see any adverse effects from turning it off. If you did turn it off than I'm surprised, because the battery has been way better since I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3, my standby drain is almost negligible, and I always reboot my phone to make sure the voltages are reported properly.

QUOTE(300078 @ Jan 30 2012, 09:59 AM)
so i must root my phone is it?
*
Nope, no need at all. Root explorers are just called that, nothing to do whatsoever with root.

Sarcasm aside, YOU NEED ROOT. Since you're quoting my explanation on solving custom ROM issues, which requires rooting in itself, I'm not sure why are you even asking this >_<...no offence, just curious.

QUOTE(chickenducksoup @ Jan 30 2012, 10:42 AM)
one more question.cus i still blur-blur after reading here and there.havent got my phone yet.
after root (S-off) can it be unroot (S-ON) back?
*
Yes you can, there is a fully detailed guide on XDA HTC Sensation Android Development Forum Section for doing exactly that. Just follow instructions and never, I repeat, never skip steps or deviate from the instructions.

QUOTE(helload @ Jan 30 2012, 11:02 AM)
Thanks! i tried to install it again and this time is a success biggrin.gif

Do I need the ADB step? as some say it is not needed ?

also, if I want to install custom ROM, it is said that I need to wipe my phone first. Does this means I will loose all infos on my phone including the contacts?
*
For most users, having your pc/laptop ADB enabled is not necessary, but it's helpful at times when you can't access your phone and want to do something to it via ADB commands. But that of course requires much reading and familiarising yourself with the ADB commands etc. If you are referring to USB debugging, yes you need it enabled, in fact, I don't see why you wouldn't want it enabled, since it has no adverse effects whatsoever.

Superwipe of Fullwipe will format your phone's INTERNAL MEMORY, yes you will lose all contact data, but if it's backed up to your Google contacts then it shouldn't be a problem....for first time back up to google, login your gmail and go to contacts and double check that all your contacts are there, if all are there, then no more worries.

If you're still doubtful, you can export your contacts information to SDcard as well, just go to phone>people>click settings key>export/import.

QUOTE(moung @ Jan 30 2012, 12:44 PM)
hey guys, anyone using custom roms with ice cream sandwich rom? Mind sharing the goodness of it?  biggrin.gif
*
It's Ice Cream, there's nothing bad about Ice Cream right?, hahahaha

for me, at stock kernel running at 1.18GHZ, the phone feels incredibly smooth, or at least as smooth as GB ROM (if not smoother), the operations on certain areas seems to be faster and more responsive as well.

QUOTE(moung @ Jan 30 2012, 10:15 PM)
Guys, just want to be clear, currently I'm on Leedroid 4.2.1 & now want to flash Leedroid ICS, so

from gingerbread>superCID>firmware package>flash Leedroid ICS rom>Done?
*
Before you start, place ICS ROM, fullwipe, 3.24 firmware on SD card.

1. Backup your GB Rom with CWM or EXT4 Recovery.
2. SuperCID (for flashing firmware AND S-ON for warranty purposes in the future if required)
3. Run Fullwipe.
4. Install Leedroid V6.0.0 ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6
5. Reboot into bootloader.
6. Flash 3.24 Firmware from here., let it run and do it's thing, don't panic it will reboot your phone for the update process and when it's done it will let you know. DO NOT PULL BATTERY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
7. Reboot your phone normally, if you're using Leedroid 6.0.0 you will get "unfortunately sound set has stopped" twice upon successful reboot and probably a sense reboot, don't worry just click through it then let your phone settle. Do not restore apps via Titanium Backup of your GB Rom apps. If market auto-install doesnt kick in, install manually.
8. Refer to this post to resolve your "unfortunately sound set has stopped" error and sense restart problem upon phone reboot.
9. Recommended but not necessary final step : Reboot back into recovery, clear cache and dalvik cache, fix permissions and reboot.
10. You should be enjoying your ROM by now.

hey today i just bought a HTC sensation XE, but the current software is andriod 2.3.4, and sense 3.0. is it the latest andriod version for the phone? is it able to upgrade to 2.3.5?
*
Yes, you can upgrade to 2.3.5 and even to 4.0.3

However, before you even think of doing anything, I suggest you do some reading first. Best place to start would be the first post of this topic. If you want more information right at it's source, go here.

1) low volume
2 ) some video files wont play properly while on samsung note - no problem at all
3 ) laggy - which is quite strange.
*
I blame all 3 on lack of software optimization on HTC's part. It's obvious performance of stock unrooted vs rooted with custom ROM has a great difference. For me I don't really mind, it performs the things I want with no lags etc so I'm happy with it currently. Additionally, I'm looking forward to more customizations that will fully optimize the hardware of this phone.

Sensation strength its looks n build, ui htc sense. Battery life slight better
Other than these i feel sgs Ii has an edge over it in other areas
It is definitely obciously more laggy than sgsII.
I have used both but sold off sensation in a month as compared to sgsII perdormance.i feel its performance even worse than incredible S
Anyway just my opinion
*
If you're comparing stock unrooted version of oth phones, SGSII definitely wins out. Like I said above, it's more software related than hardware.

QUOTE(accelerator7 @ Jan 31 2012, 02:26 PM)
Hi guys, just trying my luck here, anyone experienced a serious battery depletion overnight? I charged my Sensation to max before i sleep and when i woke up, it's out of battery. When i checked the Battery Indicator, the battery depletes on "Phone Signal"? Anyone has any idea what problem is this and any solutions?  sad.gif
*
Assuming you are on stock ROM:

1. Turn off "enable mobile data always on". It's under mobile network settings.
2. Turn off "Phone Finder". It's under Locations setting. If you're paranoid about your phone getting stolen then leave it on, if you don't care, turn it off, that thing will kill your battery.
3. Make sure the accounts you Sync under "Accounts & Sync" is customized properly. For myself, I only snyc contacts for FB, twitter, the rest will only update when i view or open the application, update frequency set to once a day.
4. If you sleep, turn off mobile network, wifi, better yet, airplane mode, but if you want to receive calls and smses then no need airplane mode...these two are power hungry features.
5. Unintsall applications that run a lot in the background...some applications prevent your phone from sleeping while screen is off, and uses the cpu when screen off. Rule of thumb, not too many apps, avoid task killers, no need antivirus, and just deleta all that useless junk app that you downloaded from the market without thinking. NORMALLY FOR ABNORMAL BATTERY DRAIN THIS IS THE MAIN CAUSE)

LoL, if changing ROMs, Rooting, or Performance Tweaks is as easy as changing themes or wallpapers as in Windows, then it will be damn gooding...
*
It is actually, but of course it wont be that fast...it's just a matter of nandroid backup, then flash new ROM, then back it up and repeat process. In fact, you can run different ROMS simultaneously. However full-wiping and restoring backup with first time bootup, switching between ROMs will take about 20 minutes.

flash roms as easy as change theme for me..lol.. biggrin.gif

no point debating over the two phone, at the end of the day it is what the user prefer is the most important
*
Correct, rather than wasting time debating on which phone is better etc, the time could have been better spent to provide support and help to enable all of you here with a Sensation to enjoy your phone better.

For those that feel that this phone is lacking as compared to other brands, I respect your opinions, and I understand them. Each has their own flaws and advantages. Additionally, these flaws/advantages may be amplified based on user preferences/needs/expectations etc. For example, if your'e a person that hates things lagging, no matter the device, you're going to curse it regardless.

Note: Its nice to know that so far, there are no Samsung/Iphone fanboys mindlessly posting and flaming in our thread yet, and I would like to keep it that way. How?, as mentioned earlier, lets talk about more constructive things instead. Peace people! biggrin.gif

Note 2: FYI if anyone wants to play tegrazone games, currently there's an app called Chainfire3D thats enables you to download and play Tegra zone games. Unfortunately I don;t know whether it has been updated to provide ICS support. Last time I used it on GB it forces Sense into a bootloop if you have a 3rd party app widget in your home screen, aside from that, it DOES work. So be patient. tongue.gif

i saw a 116, broadband, cek bonus and cek pulsa... what is all these?! i tot its malware and reset my phone thru "bios"
but its still thr.... anyone can help me on this? rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
If you have Titanium Backup, you may freeze these applications or uninstall them. Just in case, make a nandroid backup. But as far as I know those stuff wouldn't adversely affect your phone, on the off-chance that it does, just restore and do trial and error, remove one by one and reboot phone to see how it does.

QUOTE(Unomi @ Jan 31 2012, 10:09 PM)
hey! how do you classfied the warranty card as un fill? yesterday i bought a 2nd sensation XE and the warranty card half already send to the dealer, and the reply card is with me. But then the reply card was un fil. is that consider unfil warranty card?
Cause i check register online, u dont need to fill any names on it. so asking whether is it consider fill or unfil?
Anyone know about it?
*
As far as I'm concerned, I just went to the warranty website, input details and attached scanned image of the receipt and I'm done, a few minutes later confirmation email from SIS that I have activated my 2 years warranty.

Based on the phone box, it says that you can register for 2 year warranty within 7 days of purchasing the product. But I do remember in V1 or V2 of this thread someone posting that they are still able to get it even after past 7 days.

Definitely do not remember fiddling with card and whatnot.
My suggestion:

Call up SIS direct and inquire about it. No point wondering here yourself right?, make their customer service section work a bit hahaha rclxms.gif

very disappointed with the passmark score.
Can't even compare to sgs2.
Unroot user here.
Any root user can share their score here?
*
Benchmark values are not to be taken seriously.

Highest CF bench scores i ever got on this phone was at 7900+ overall with 1.72 Ghz and 2.3.4 GB ROM.

Now im on ICS, cpu speed 1.18Ghz, but overall feels smoother in many areas...cf bench scores?, its barely 5200.

Yeah, I know, total and complete mindf**ck.

CF-Bench, ICS 4.0.3, Leedroid 6.0.0, Stock Kernel

Like I said again, and again ad guess what, again recently. Performance discrepancies are due mostly to unoptimized software/driver/kernel.

Optimizing software is like going to the gym to get ripped/buffed, can't expect that to happen in a day right?, hell, might not even make it in 3 months, It's an ongoing process.

Therefore, take a chill pill.

Are you rooted?, or still stock?

as far as im concerned all my games run smooth for me, my only issue is with .mkv videos, the other standard file formats runs fine, hd and full hd.

For browser right, I rarely use the stock brpwser, try installing Dolphin Browser HD or Opera Mobile.
