killer,want to ask about ableton.ive already know how to record single bass track now.but not very sure on how to combine that bass track with original song.how to make a single track that consist of the bass track and the song track together so that it would sound like what u post in ur facebook page?(there u combined tracks of ur guitars and ori song and drums right?)

Oh that, you have to export the track (at File menu), Ableton will collate all the tracks into one. You have to tweak the settings though according to your requirement. Basically AVI format will give you the highest quality (high bitrate) but the file size is huuuugggeee. I usually save the track in WMV (ver. 11) format, cause this has good enough quality to upload in youtube or fb.

On part of this audio mastering, I also tweak the volume/peaks of the audio, including whether i want it on L or R channel alone (particularly those song parts that has 2 guitars, I will set each guitar playing on L or R). Hope this helps.



I already got the sample track from Wintersun today, but not very sure If I'd be able to fully clean it up, will let you know guys this weekend. Worse thing that can happen, we resort to a drum track instead =(

Do we need to wait for the complete assemble instrumental from our official musicians (proud of u guys XD) then we record our vocals, or we can just send our vocals now?

Yes you can send the vocals to me already, but send me the backing track that you used also so that we can baseline the songs' bpm.

I just returned from outstation and will continue to work on this for the weekend..

Testing the sample work given by DeadFrog and Kaoru and remixed the 3 tracks including mine.

My suggestions:

For Deadfrog,
1. maybe I'll take care of guitar part on 1:00 to 1:13, I'll use the coil tap on this one (you may provide the same licks as your 0:35-0:48) and Middle solo part, you may take care of the rest.
2. You take the Ending Solo also (I'll provide backing guitar and muted rhythm at left channel)


For Kaoru,
1. You can take the chorus part and duet vocals on the last 2 repeated chorus.


For Wintersun,
I'm working on your drum sample, will let you know today the outcome..

For Nabzblitz,
Please send me your vocal track sample.

For Rarap and Little Ice,
Kindly do the same.


I'm hoping for everyone's cooperation to provide their sample work latest by 27th November (just parts only, no need to complete the whole song, as I will try to check which part we can improve, and so that all can share their opinions and suggestions too.

hi sorry recently swamped with big projects, will be back on track somewhere next weekdays if i have extra time to spare. but will be free to record it after 27th if i'm unable to make it prior to that day.

For WinterSun,
Can the kick drum be tuned a littler lower? I can't hear it clearly on every 4 measures, and it lacks 'bass'. Not sure if you can enhance it a bit during your recording. We will need a better drum sound than this, would you be able to do it?

The 8th note drum pattern that you made is OK, this should be the correct pattern to play it. I have cutoff both the lower and higher frequencies a bit because there's too much reverb and high-pitched echoes, including scratches.

It sounds great to me.. although more like a low quality production haha..

I think i can make the bass drum a little more bassy because during recording its kinda mute to prevent neighbours from complaining.

One thing im curious is that, me and deadfrog are not playing to the same tempo how did u manage to sync both??

So do i still continue practice to the song or u will use a drum track?

i play at 144.10 bpm (as per CD). let's get an agreement on the tempo, shall we?

It will sound great if we can record nicely. Maybe you can try give me another drum sample better than this and i'll see what else I can do. The drum track is the last option, honestly, I don't wanna use a drum backing track because it defeats the purpose of going a full band collaboration cover.

Oh that, I adjusted both of your tempo. Your's was around 100bpm while his is around 120bpm i think lol. Actually, all have different bpm (including Kauoru). Which makes me think it would be better if we use only one base track (yup, that's the drum part to be used as bpm baseline)

So yeah, give me another one to work on before we can conclude anything, and do share it with Deadfrog as well. thanks.

I cant play at 144.1 bpm lol.. the metronome i have is on a single digit either 144 or 145. Earlier i asked killerkamote bro and he said i can play at my own tempo so i didnt use a metronome actually.



Im not sure wat i can change anymore to make the sound better since i recorded with my digi cam and the room is fix.. so the sound is recorded as it is..

how r? if u think drum sample will be better then u can use a drum sample for this project first. Im cool with that. Maybe during that i can try to slowly find my way to let it sound better by sending u sample for the next project. I dont wanna slow down the whole project.

I think itll sound better if u have an external mic.maybe can borrow from ur friend
im trying my best to make a sample.still got confused with ableton here and there.was not able to sync the mp3 file with ableton metronome previously,but now i found the way hope can finish within this week for my bass part.

Eh? I thought the original is 148? Ableton shows it at 148.79bpm to be exact.

Well, I don't mind changing the tempo as long as it's uniform. If we resort to a backing track, not sure if there's one available. The only one I found is here: Secrets - Backing Track


A little off-tempo should be OK, I can always adjust it during final editing. Anyway bro, I thank you for trying. Let me ask the others if they are cool with that for the time being.

yeah... i noticed the mtv version is a bit quicker around 148bpm compared to the CD version
