Hey bro, good job!

If you are using amplitube, you can choose the built-in presets in there. You can see at the bottom there are 1 to 4 tracks. Usually I load the song (or backing track) at the first slot (numbered 1), for this you need to turn off the amplitube effects so it wont get messed up (theres an icon at the very bottom, farthest right). And for the guitar, you can use slot number 2, turn on the effects icon and choose a preset. You can also just record straight away using clean channel, and at playback you can experiment with the presets. Once the choose the desired preset you can  export the tracks. Oh btw, if you have time, download also Ableton. This is easier to use during recording. You will need the Amplitube as a plugin instead (me, i refer guitar rig 4 as plugin). Il take screenshots later and show it to you.

You can also check the tutorial at youtube:

For our first collaboration, we will cover 'Secrets' as this is an easy song to play with.

Song details:
Tempo: 148 bpm (as per original), ensure to use metronome always when recording.

Key: D Major, with chords progression D-F#m-Bm-G

Length: 3:55 with proper ending (no fading)

Intro: Violin solo (by 'little ice) will go on for 8 measures followed by vocals (violin plays for another 8 measures.

Guitars:

Rhythm (Dist) and Solo (2 parts) - Me and Deadfrog will work on this, need to discuss the improvisation parts
Bass - More on this later.

Drummer - More on this later. I'm not sure if a drummer can record a clean one using acoustic drum, else we resort to electronic drums since it has a midi output that can be recorded directly to pc. If we can't find one, then we do it using drum software like cakewalk, etc. (prefers acoustic drum). Anyone please?
Vocals - We currently don't have a vocalist, though I can find one. It will be epic if a female will sing this song (note: need to change the song key if ever). Something like this:

Guys, please use this thread to update our progress. If you guys have time, please create account in soundcloud.com so we can put our Work In Progress tracks in there so we can easily share our recordings to each other. This is my channel:

i'm not sure soundcloud allows copyrighted material to be published publicly. i guess if it's private it's ok. i found another site worth exploring, it's an online DAW application. you can record directly via the web but the effects are pretty limited for free accounts. the site is http://www.indabamusic.com. i would think it is easier to work in an online DAW app as compared to soundcloud. we can add multiple tracks i.e. guitars, bass, drums, vox etc in a project and we can control the timing of the song as well a lot more easier. just like your regular DAW.

Hi Bro,
You're welcome to join as we currently don't have any vocalist. I was also thinking maybe you can fill in the drums too. Would you be able to have a clean track sample for the drums just like in this drum cover:

Very nice bro! Can you send me the rhythm part track alone?
I'll try to blend in some improvisations as I had put it in my cover:

Hi Bro,
Damnit your Steve Vai's cover was effing nice. Would love to jam with you too.

Oh i mean can you re-record it and share to me? Maybe you can play around with other settings too (i.e. compression, etc) so I only need to adjust the volume thresholds only to make room for the vocals to stand a bit.

We don't have any drummer yet ;(

i can re-record it. however, i'll most likely play it a bit differently.

im following the thread silently tongue.gif got ableton live 8,but not really understand the interface.how to make amplitube 3 as plugins?i get confused about that sweat.gif

LOL... i too was baffled by it initially when i 1st installed it. it's basically quite simple. u get the plug-in from the plug-in browser (click the little icon that says "plug-in" to view your plug-ins), which is at the left and drag it into a box which says Drop Audio Effects Here, which is at the bottom.

oh.. in order for ableton to find where are ur plug-ins. goto option -> preference -> file folder. there u can specify where ur plug-ins r located in ur harddrive.

i strongly suggest u read the manual. setting up for recording is quite challenging. playback is another challenging task, i don't recall reading it specifically in the manual on how to playback your recorded track. it's designed such to avoid accidental recording during playback. which imo, is a good feature.

think we drop 'jar of hearts' and 'grenade'. jar's too delicate to be spoiled. i don't like grenade's lyrics, if we play it loud it will sound like a loser venting off steam from a recent breakup with his girlfriend.

i propose something more cheerful like 'Big In Japan' by Alphaville

we'll keep Mama Mia and continue to work on Secrets

OK. Just to share how I'd played the song the 2nd time. This time I'm not improvising. I've put/played the solo towards the end of the song. I've also leave a space where initial there was a guitar solo in the middle of the song.
