They are called back to the front lines by Kirito's friend Klein to fight the floor boss, which proves to be extremely difficult, but Kirito notices that the leader Heathcliff has lost little health. He attacks Heathcliff, showing that he is in fact the game's creator Kayaba Akihiko. Kayaba reveals that he is the 100th floor boss and challenges Kirito to a duel, saying that if he wins the game will be cleared and all the players will be freed. Kirito wins, and then wakes up in hospital, having finished the game.

After escaping SAO, Kirito, for a series of circumstances, takes part in other VRMMO games.
