QUOTE(Duke Red @ Nov 18 2011, 11:23 AM)
No arguments here. Me talking about how polarised us Malaysians are now and needing to lighten up was in response to someone's comment on our government sweeping racial issues under the rug. Just to add, I don't think they are being swept under the rug. In fact I think they are playing a big part in stirring racial sentiment.

If Suarez is punished, it will be unfortunate for us as he's been the 1 bright spark for us so far this season but what needs to be done, should be done. Doesn't matter that the term is widely accepted where he comes from because "when in Rome, do as Romans do". All I ask is the FA be consistent with charging players and meeting out punishment.
More importantly, I hope people speaking out against racism, asking for players to be prosecuted aren't hypocrites and racist themselves. One example is Yossi Benayoun being booed by a section of fans in Bukit Jalil for being Jewish. If Terry is convicted, I wonder how these fans would react? Similarly, I wonder what they think of Suarez's incident?

It would be a blow for us if he gets the ban for 5-6 matches..

Having said that there is also a need to practice some tolerance no? Take our country as an example. These days we are just so damn polarized. It's clear that the powers that be intend to keep the races separate despite our slogan promoting solidarity with all those corny ads. Back in the day we thought nothing about being called, "ah pek", or whatever by our mates. We made racist jokes and all had a laugh after.
*
Agree we used to call ah pek, keling, ma-chan for fun is nothing worse than calling someone eh fat one, tall one, short one. But i dont think all this name calling will result in more racism hatred. If i call u keling means i hate u but does not mean i hate all other indian friends too. What cause racial tension is when there is racial discrimination like the one we have with the bumi and non-bumi. One party is been forcely handicap for the advantage of others and the best of it, our government say you cant openly debate about it else ISA will be on ur arse. So much for 1Malaysia bullshit and if racist war do happen in Malaysia we have to thanks BN for it.

When YOSSI was booed, most CHELSEA fans in LYN condeem it, you dont boo someone because of his nationality, that is plain stupid because you cant choose where u were born, can u ? On TERRY and SUAREZ, it should be innocent until proven guilty, but as a fans or as a person, in a heat of moment if they did say those words i believe most can understand but is still not a good example to show to the world so just take responsibility and serve any punishment that is deem appropriate. I kinda agree with Blatter said of "foul words". Calling ANTON black does not mean TERRY hate/racist against MIKEL, ESSIEN or DROGBA also, is things we say when we are angry.

Comments from Gus Poyet

QUOTE
Former Uruguay international Gus Poyet has defended countryman Luis Suarez over allegations he racially abused Patrice Evra, accusing the Manchester United defender of "crying like a baby".

Liverpool's Suarez was charged by the Football Association earlier this week after Evra told French television station Canal Plus that the striker had used a racist insult toward him "at least 10 times" during last month's 1-1 draw at Anfield. The Merseyside club say their player will deny the charge at a personal hearing and they remain "fully supportive" of him. Poyet, now manager of Brighton, is also evidently in the Suarez camp.

Quoted in several newspapers, the former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder said: "I played for seven years in Spain and was called everything because I was from South America. And I never went out crying like a baby, like Patrice Evra, saying that someone said something to me.

"I believe Suarez. It's simple. I am surprised in a really sad way that he has been charged. I think it is worse to charge someone because you trust one person when you have no proof."

"I am sad because it is going to become too easy. I can make a complaint about an opposition manager and if I take it as far as I can he will be charged. Why are we going to take one person's word over another's?"

Poyet's comments come at a time when FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been widely criticised for his controversial suggestion that racism on the pitch should be settled by a handshake.

Good one from Poyet rclxms.gif

Yup which is why I said a section of fans. If everyone of a specific race or origin was held accountable for what their forefathers did, we wouldn't be eating Japanese food.

As for foul language I personally think nothing much of it. I swear a lot especially when playing a sport but more so out of frustration. If the FA deem it's an offense because it is hostile in nature then does it mean I can get away with saying, " I'll kill you!" ? I didnt swear. Have we heard of any player being hauled up for threatening another on the pitch? This is worse than saying, "f*** off", to the ref or another player IMO. Yes I understand the need for discipline but not to the extent all emotion is removed from the sport.

As for racist words, there must be zero tolerance because it's personal. Question is, did the offender mean it maliciously when he said it? We'll never really know but that's why courts have juries and the FA has officials eh?

to all torres haters, you all actually dont know why Torres left the club...

Fernando Torres insists Liverpool fans are unaware of the real reasons behind his transfer to Chelsea.

I read that yesterday. The only reason I didn't copy the link is because he doesn't actually state the real reasons, just says we don't know what they are.

I dont think people blame torres for leaving.Just that the manner and timing he left.We already knew after rafa benitez left that he was going to leave. It was confirmed by him in this article.Doesn't matter now anymore. He's gone and his contribution here will be remembered.I just hope he doesnt score against us this weekend.
