Actually this ear-marking of RM200-250 for each petrol transaction only happens when I use Amex at Shell. Does not happen with usage of same card at other petrol stations. Also does not happen with usage of other credit cards from other banks

In Malaysia its up to RM150. Other country other limit.

But, there is staff from VISA malasyaia told me that paywave transaction limit is RM250 instead of RM150.
Is it visa or bank revised the limit for paywave transaction in Malaysia recently?
Any one tried perform paywave transaction. More than RM150 and do not required signature?

Hello guys, noob here. I got a CIMB debit card, and i want to use it. When i use it to buy something and the cashier swaps the card, will the cashier ask me to sign the slip (similar to credit cards) or will they ask for the 4-digit debit card pin to confirm purchase?

just sharing my experiences dealing with various banks regarding debit card.

as you all know, basic saving acc (bsa) option 1 comes with limited atm withdrawal and NO annual fee, though they still give you debit card. and bsa option 2 comes with unlimited atm withdrawal with annual fee debit card.

went to RHB bank (had to go to 3 different branches across 2 different states to get this done) to request for bsa. the first 2 branch said no such thing. the last branch said got, but in the end they issued RM20 debit card. rejected it, insisted on RM8 card, since the staff ady opened option 2, not option 1 acc. YES THEY HAVE THE DIAMOND DEBIT card. just insist on it. ask to speak to BM if staff said no such thing.

went to MBB to change my debit card atm withdrawal limit (no annual fee). they got it done in 30mins. they said customers rarely come to switch to limited withdrawal that's why they got a bit hiccups to get it done. alas, MBB has no problem to switch it.

went to CIMB bank. requested to change my exisiting debit card option. they said cannot. the setting is set during acc opening. once done, you stuck with it for the rest of your life. so requested to open another bsa, insisted on no annual fee debit card. done within 15mins.

TL;DR
1. some banks SOP can change debit card atm withdrawal limits over the counter. some banks SOP cannot since u got to decide want with annual fee or not during acc opening.
2. different bank branch got different SOP and staff competency.
3. banks are not offering normal atm cards but debit card instead. if you want debit card with no annual fee, insist on limited atm withdrawals.

Just learned this over the weekend, Citibank Visa Debit card (also ATM) card cannot be used for online transaction. I called the CS and was told the same.

I thought it only needs to 'allow' for online transaction by giving a call. But Citi seems to have a different thinking.

According to the CS, Citi enforces no online transaction for their debit cards. Cannot request to activate also.

Maybank debit card now suspend online purchases?
Doesn't seem to work now. Even on agoda. Need to choose pay at hotel option instead.

Let me recommend you Basic Savings Account then, if you withdraw cash from ATM less than 8 times a month. PLEASE change to it, it has no annual fees and it is also an interest bearing account.

I have public bank debit card which I rarely use because i open mainly for mutual fund

Public Bank debit card has the same annual fee as the regular ATM card. Anyway, the only way is to change your account to a Basic Savings Account.
