Hi I just want to ask sifus here about Cimb Islamic bank acc and their debit card.

Now I'm holding the WADIAH savings account-i with the Islamic debit Mastercard. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think both annual fees are charged for this account...
which are
RM8.48 acc annual fee.
RM15.90 for debit card annual fee.

I'm just wondering if there's any way I can avoid these two fees?
Should I change to Basic savings account-i with no annual fee. And I'm not sure if I opt for Basic savings acc and debit card I still need to pay the debit card annual fee.

I have been having this account for too long now only I realised the charges imposed.

You'll be issued a debit MasterCard should you choose to open a non-fee CIMB Islamic Basic Savings Account-i. The debit card is annual fee free. The profit rate for this account is better than your current Wadiah Savings too at 0.90% per annum. You will get 8 free ATM cash withdrawals only a month. If you are a heavy user of ATM, it is recommended that you choose the fee-paying account so you will get unlimited fee-free ATM cash withdrawals.

Thanks for the reply. I am holding the debit Mastercard now and have been using it as my primary online transactions card.
My profit rate is 0.9 for this wadiah savings acc. If I'm not mistaken when I opened it few years ago it was called mudharabah acc. So I don't know since when it changed name as wadiah savings acc. Lol

Anyway,if I want to change to basic savings account-i. What will happen?

They will close my old acc and open new one as I walk in or I can just call cimb to do the changes for me and transfer all the money from old acc to the new one then?

I believe you need to walk-in to your account holding branch. I am however not sure if they can simply convert your account so to let you to maintain the same account number. Very likely they will simply open a new account for you and then close your existing account. I've asked CIMB Bank before and one person can have up to 5 savings accounts at a given time.

Alright thanks man!

All banks has a range of account numbers used for different type of accounts.
In other words, yes, you will be asked to open a new account and transfer from your old one and close it.

Certain bank will demand an account closure fee.

As to whether you need to walk in or otherwise, if the bank offers online account (without saving books , etc), then you can open it online yourself and if the old account is from the same bank, you could just perform a transfer online, too. However, closure of account with saving book will still require you to walk in to bank.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm gonna call the bank soon to clarify things.

Agree. Even you ask for cimb BSA, they will insist customer to take with AF so that can withdraw unlimited. but for rm15 AF? seriously sweat.gif

Actually that RM15 that you are saying is debit card annual fee which is charged for all debit cards issued by cimb. It will cost users RM15.90 (including GST per annum). As with BSA, there are two options,
1. BSA with annual fee (RM8.48 per annum) - this acc will give you unlimited withdrawal per month.
2. BSA without annual fee - you will be given 8 free atm withdrawals per month. This acc is good if you plan to have an acc which limits the amount of withdrawals you can make.

By default, in the system, CIMB sets the system to opt for BSA with annual fee (RM8.48). So you are advised to confirm the banker to open you the right acc if you want without annual fee. I have experienced this before, I opt for one without annual fee but the banker being so confident has accidentally open an account with annual fee. So what I did is I bring the bank manager to the problem and ask so that the account to be closed immediately and open me the right account in which she did it anyways since her employee was at fault.

Btw, cimb is one of the most expensive bank if you want BSA with debit card, the total would be RM24.38 per year (both BSA annual fee and debit card annual fee). If you want an account with no charges and limited withdrawal, you can always go for BSA without annual fee with Maybank and get their debit card too as they will not charge annual fee for both debit card and the BSA bank acc.

For my case, I am using BSA without annual fee (which limit my atm withdraw) but holding with MYDebit MasterCard (which CIMB force us to change MYDebit card).
Thus, is it means I still be chargeable RM15.90 (include GST) although my BSA without annual fee?

If like that, I think I should do the next decisions in the future soon.
*
Yup in your case your total is RM15.90 per year will be charged.
You're same as me. I'm also having BSA without annual fee.

I just hope they will abolish that debit card fee this year. smile.gif

No. You will not be charged any debit card annual fee if you are very sure that your CIMB Bank BSA is the non-fee option.
That is some very wrong information there. I've been using a CIMB Bank non-fee BSA for two years already. From the very beginning they already issued a CIMB Bank debit MasterCard and I was never charged an annual fee. Last year I changed my CIMB Bank debit MasterCard to the new PIN & PAY CIMB Bank debit MasterCard with MyDebit and they still didn't charge me any annual fee.

If you read a couple of posts back, another old regular user alexwsk has this CIMB Bank non-fee BSA too and he was never charged any annual fee too.
*
Ya sorry I think I might be wrong too. Thanks for the heads up. I think I got confused with the other savings acc which charged both annual fee for acc and debit card.

Can someone advise me further on my case here. Just opened the basic savings with public bank. But the banker give me the wrong debit card. I ask for Petron visa debit but was given the Mastercard debit card. What should I do now?
But I did insist that I want Petron Debit card during registration.

You're safe. Accounts linked to BSA is free
And the banker is right
Petron Visa cannot be issued with an account. It is not linked to an account
You have to apply for Petron Visa separately if you want to

Okay thanks will do that later.

Thanks.

Don't know if this is the right thread to post.
These are my transaction on Visa Platinum Debit few days ago.

-Transaction date: 18/6/17
- amount charged in foreign currency: £237.47
- amount billed in MYR: RM1319.34
- Final exchange rate: 5.5558

Based on this I calculated that the fee for Maybank Debit Card Visa is 1.2525%. Is that correct?

Nope. it's 1% based on Visa rates
But Visa rates are slightly higher than actual rates, around 0.25% , so the figures are spot on
(1.0025*1.01=1.012525, 1.2525% mark up)
Tip : spend with MasterCard to save, especially with a high value transaction because MasterCard rates are marginally better
*
Thank you for the suggestion.

Can you please confirm that the amount that I would pay if I were to use Cimb Mastercard Debit card will be RM1323.79?

I calculated this based on transaction date 18/6/17 and using mastercard exchange rate with 1.9899% mark up.

Thanks.

Hope this helps
According to the PDS the mark -up for CIMB Debit is 1%
*
Thank you.

I had last time used Cimb Debit Mastercard on 9/5/17 for the amount of £16.99 transaction and the amount I paid is 97.38 (marked up 1.99%).

Thats why I thought that the mark up amount is 1.99/1.9899, not 1%. And based on this mark up rate, I got RM1323.79 as the amount for £237.47 for transaction dated 18/6/17.

Am I correct on this?

Thanks.

The new bank rakyat debit card come with embossed printed name, so it might be useful for overseas usage eg car rental preauthorisation.

And they have cashback promo now for petrol and I think it will end this month unfortunately.

I have queries on True Debit card by Ambank.

1. The annual fee will be charged from 2nd year onwards but it will be waived if it is tied to any BSA, so if I wanted to avoid this, I need to open a BSA and tie my True debit card to it right?

2. The free 5 meps per month. Does it applies to Meps withdrawal made to the BSA using True Debit card or it will only applies for Meps withdrawal made from Transact Acc?

3. If Free meps withdrawal only applies for Transact acc, do I need to transfer amount from my BSA to the Transact acc every time I make any withdrawal?

Thank you. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Not yet. Last month also like this. It will appear on 27th but the date on statement, it will show as if it was added on the 25th.

Weird cimb as always.

Or maybe it was only a prepaid card, the system might have delays.

Wow congrats. I just realised mine also no problem I think, CIMB did not pick up one of the payment I made in late Aug because there was problem in Lazada ordering system making my order being delayed for two weeks.

So I think all good for me now. Let's see if it will be reflected next month. Hopefully it will.

I'm still waiting for the reply from CIMB regarding this. smile.gif

As for CIMB, I have two accounts. My BSA option 1 comes with debit mastercard and no annual fee for both the debit card and the account.

However, my other cimb account is charged for annual fee for Debit card (15.90) and also annual fee for account (8.48).

I hope this will help you decide.

Basically you need to close your existing account and open BSA option 1 if you do not want annual fees.

Thanks.
