Is it ok that I choose not to change my OCBC ATM card to a OCBC debit card, as I do not want to pay RM 8.48 annual fee? Or, does OCBC offer basic saving account without annual fee?

I am an European national, often traveling to Malaysia to enjoy life there during my holidays.
I am going to be there 2 months July to August and I wish to know if anyone knows of any bank or financial institution offering a PREPAID debit card Visa or Mastercard. As bank wouldn't let me open an account, and I don't want to go around with cash the whole time.
Not to mention is not wise to withdraw by my foreign CC/DC due to the silly exchange rates and fees...
Any hint?

Guys, recently i used my debit card to pay for my grabcar, but the payment was declined. I sent in a support ticket and this is what i get:



What does the person mean by contact your issued bank to authorize this payment?

I thought debit card can be used for online payment instantly.

Can I enable public bank overseas purchase through online? after 10minutes still no one answer the call lol.

if that the case then I would be charged for annual fee yearly for no reason since I am not using the debit card functionality besides ordinary cash withdrawal which ordinary ATM card can already do it..      

The CIMB CS is wrong. I have a CIMB Basic Savings Account with no annual fee and from the very beginning they already issued the CIMB debit MasterCard to me and I had never paid any annual fee for the debit card.

i suppose it's inevitable....maybank old yellow/black atm cards will be disabled from 1 November 17....

and yes, you will now need to pay annual fees for a debit card, which you may never use....and only use as atm card....

Hi all. Is it true that we can opt for debit card with the no annual fee mode? I very suaku only know it today. What I heard was if opt for no annual fee mode, then we can withdraw for free for 8 times every month. If exceeded 8 times, each new transaction will be charged at RM 0.53.

I am wondering if this applies to RHB and CIMB because I am using the debit card of these 2 banks..

Other banks have that too. Most are tied to Basic Savings Account and you will have to ask about it when you apply. Otherwise, you're getting some sort of non-basic savings account and have to pay annual fee for the debit card.

Anyone has idea what’s happening to the supposedly launching of GoPayz Prepaid cards that was supposed to take place last month ? And we’re about to bid farewell to August already and we have not heard anything from GoPayz since the big media event back in June.

And has anyone also heard anything about Happy MasterCard by Digi ? Its IG account looks abandoned.

Then there is also the Grab Prepaid MasterCard that is supposed to launch in Singapore this year. But so far nothing has happened. Perhaps anyone who knows someone from Grab can shed a light ? I'm thinking of getting a Great Wall Prepaid Card, is there any specific thing that I need to take note of during the application? Can it be topped up using the BOC app? And what are your experiences of using the card locally since it's a Unionpay card? Just thinking of getting a Unionpay card and this seems like the suitable one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, ICBC only has 1 branch nationwide which is in KLCC right?

But I found out that both Bank of China and ICBC have their own respective apps, so I guess IBFT and IBG wouldn't be an issue from them nowadays, but I do rely a lot on IBFT though...

But is it true that ICBC requires a minimum deposit of RM 500 to open an account with them? At least according to RinggitPlus?
