I think all the ATM cards been force to change debit card automatically. This enforcement has been controlled by bank negara Malaysia and request us to change the debit card within this year.

Otherwise, the worst is you can't withdraw the money from ATM machine.
*
at the risk of sounding like a broken record....

bnm mandated a migration to pin based verification for all PAYMENT cards....this covers debit, credit and charge cards...but bnm NEVER issued any instructions for atm cards...

atm cards by themselves, are already and have ALWAYS been, pin based...that's the only way you can take money from the machine...so it need NOT be "upgraded"...

banks however may decide to stop issuing atm cards, and migrate to co-branded debit cards...or may continue to issue atm cards alongside debit cards....

there is NO conflict between the two platforms...they can exist side by side....and i have both types of cards from overseas banks, accessing the same account...

so it's an individual bank decision and nothing to do with bnm...

As for my case,I still use the old atm with no mastercard to keep my annual fee 8.48. As for now, I already been told that I cant revert to non annual fees atm card, I need to terminate and re open back acc bye.gif
*
you can open multiple bsa....but if you do not need the atm card, just let it lapse....you can transfer your sponsorship money from that account to your regular transaction accounts by giro....11sen only...

Argh! I'm in exactly the same position. They didn't tell me got a debit card less option. My annual fee coming up in Jan.

How long does it take to cancel and apply new account? Will try doing it tomorrow during lunch.
*
I notice it after it was done.... done remotely through phone and WhatsApp..... was annoyed, told the officer when there are options and a decision has to be made, always check with the customer first....so she just cancelled immediately and start a new account....

For ATM card, if it is not also a debit card, you should be to continue using it as long as it is not expired.

there is never any expiry date for the pure atm cards...

but banks may want to discontinue the pure atm cards and migrate completely to visa/mc co-branded debit cards....rhb has already done this...

I had set debit card purchase limit to RM0. 00, does it mean,  no limit  now? It's  Maybank debit card
*
It means zero limit, or cannot be used as a debit card....it becomes only an ATM cash withdrawal only card....

so we can still use our old cards after jan 1, 2017 during the grace period?
*
The deadline has been pushed back 6 months....so the pin and pay system only become compulsory from 1 July...

The enforcement is 1st July. But the pilot test is going to start from 1st Jan.
*
I have already used PIN verification a few times, if the cashier asks....the majority however still manually bypass PIN and get you to sign...

Have been using PIN based payment for a few years already overseas....

I asked MBB counter whether I need to change my ATM card since I don't intend to use it as Debit Card and he said yes, all must change.

BTW, why is CIMB annual card charges increased to RM15.90?? Other banks are still maintaining theirs as RM8.
*
It is not necessary to change the black and white pure atm card at this point...

i read it from MBB facebook last week, only the existing debit card must be replaced before end of Dec 2016.
only the old black and yellow ATM card will not be able to use from 1 Jan 2018 based on the reply from the MBB facebook. forget to save the link.

*
That is correct....there is no decision yet as what to do after end 17....it is possible to have the pure ATM card exist along side of Debit cards....but some banks have already decided and migrated all to debit cards....

BNM clears air on ATM card replacements, cash withdrawals
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has clarified that cardholders will still be able to use their ATM cards for cash withdrawals if it is not replaced with the new PIN-based cards by the Jan 1, 2017 deadline, and there will be no charge for replacements.

I have been saying all the time that pure ATM cards are NOT affect by this move....But some people don't believe...

debit cards linked to basic accounts are supposed to be free....but you have the option to get paid cards, which allows higher spending limits....

The new debit card has nothing to do with online banking....
