This normally snap up by the installer and the supplier.

Don't think consumer will be interesting too.

I need some advice on the DIY part, since now selling back to TNB is not worth the ROI, what type of battery should I buy to store and use the solar power generated? Do I need to look at those rechargeable batteries for golf carts and forklifts?

You can use deep cycle battery. Either sla or water type.

The latest is the lithium ion battery. Which have better capacity discharge.

Golf cart and forklift is using deep cycle battery. Mostly is water type. Which require to store at outdoor. And frequent maintainance.

Do you know where to get the lithium ion battery? I mentioned the golf cart and forklifts as I feel that they might be easier to get. Yeah, planned to store outdoors already. Do you know which type has less maintenance. I don't seem them doing maintenance on the golf carts and forklifts.

For lithium, you can get it from lelong.com or solarmart

It is expensive Ah/cost. Advise to wait longer. And don't buy those like lelong from china. Lithium require more safety to care the battery.

Deep cycle battery SLA type. (Seal lead battery). It don't need to be maintenance. Can store indoor. But generally shorter lifespan.

The maintenance type is Deep Cycle Flooded Lead Acid. It not like require everyday or week to check. Probably like a month or twice to check. You need to check the

1) water level
2) acid gravity
3) equalizer charge

But there are longer lifespan generally.

Both type can be longer lifespan if less discharge as much as possible.

Both SLA or lead acid are easier to get here. Trojan is the famous brand. While many brand like GP, yuasa, deka, century, watta etc do have.

Thanks for the heads up. How big a size of a battery do I need to power a fridge and a couple of lamps and a few fans? Probably going to need to find some consultant and do the maths. Any suggestions?

You need more detail of the device that use. Like watt hr.

Take example from the panasonic fridge 450L using 336kwh/yrs. That is 336/365 = 0.92kwh/d or 38.3whr. Put it at 50w average.

Take 5 led lamp of 12w each - 5x12=60w

Take an average panasonic ceiling fan which is 56", 68w (high). 2 fan, 2x68=136w

All this running on an 1500w inverter with 90% efficiency.

Fridge require 24hr x 50w = 1.2kwh/day
Led lamp 6hr x 60w = 0.36kwh/day
ceiling fan 8hr x 136w = 1.1kwh/day
Inverter 90% effeciency 24hr x 24.6w = 0.59kwh/day

Require 3.25kwh/day of consumption. You need

Battery Bank Capacity: 686 amp hours (24v)
If you buy 200ah, 12v battery, you need 8 battery.

If you using solar panel to charge, you need 845w,24v of solar panel. or 5 panel of 200w each total of 1000w.

Does it worth to invest ?

Take it into parts and install consideration cost. Probably cost RM24k.

If I place the RM24k into fix deposit of current 3% interest, I get 24kx3%=720/365 = RM1.97/day.

The TNB charge me 3.25kwh/day is (3.25 * 21.80)/100= RM 0.71/day.

So I still have remain 1.97-0.71 = RM1.26/day for a teh tarik ?

My advice, don't invest in battery. You spend lots of money on battery and not gaining back. Battery lifespan are like 2 years some maybe 3.. not worth it.

Yes, it is high maintenance cost. I'd rather spend money on the ice storage air conditioning, make ice in day time using solar energy and enjoy whole house aircond at night.

anyway, getting ice storage aircond for residential may not be feasible in here.

something like this https://www.ice-energy.com/residential/

It uses ice to cool down the air, and then send it to the aircond

Even the tech is cool, I need a banglo to install this unit !

Checking the spec Electrical Requirements (• #IB30A-521: 208/230 VAC,1 phase 50A min. service), that is alot. Convert to solar energy, 230x50a=11.5kw to solar 11.5kw/24v = 480a.

A 250w panel produce 10A. That need 480A/10A=48pcs of panel.

You need a solar farm.

battery is not economical. why dont you do a net-metereing agreement with TNB? that is probably the best bang for your buck if you dont have a FiT contract.
