Have you got your flashgun yet? Shooting in a dim area or indoor, 17-55 also can't give you much help
Just go with you newly acquired lens and shoot. Gain the experience. It's not like everyday got free models to pose for you for shooting

that portable booth quite bright, so u could've stopped down more like f/5.6 and 1/100s, and get more of the shot in focus.

i shud take his foot photo but i dont have any other photo that he was wearing sneakers

used to own this lens and i am quite happy with the results...

i nv tried the nikkor 12-24 b4 but this is a cheaper lens which suits my need.... distortion is minimal...

UWA lens produces photo of different (wider) perspective... makes ur foreground look bigger... different effect from a standard prime lens...

only downside is the zoom range is very limited and is to me a dedicated UWA lens...

tokina 116 is non motor lens. u must do manual focus on D5100

Help! My D3100's mirror is jammed in the down position. I can take a photo but what i've got is a blank image since the mirror is not flipping up.

This is not mirror-lock up!

Errr... Bleed also must bleed smartly. Buying the 24-70mm and complain later that the 24mm end on DX is not wide enough is silly bleeding.
Convertor to use Canon lenses on Nikon bodies does not exist. Besides, why do you want to use a lower grade lens when you can use a Nikon? 
Agreed. Wait till you see bokeh shot from from a 300mm f/4.
