zomg!!

this is the reason why i ask about the af-s 85mm 1.8g.. sad.gif feel like want that focal length and aperture.. but on d5100 the only viable choice is the f/3.5g(not fast enough) or the f/1.4g (too expensive) and lastly, the existing f/1.8d does not focus on my d5100.. sad.gif

if i was u, right now just go out buy 2nd hand 85mm 1.8d, around rm1.1k.
else brand new also rm1450 only tongue.gif
*
the 85mm 1.8d cannot auto focus on my body (d5100) if i'm not mistaken.. sad.gif
QUOTE(vearn27 @ Oct 2 2011, 02:05 PM)
We need to be in reality. That's what happening to the photography culture at the moment. Many people (but not all) thought they could produce the same quality given they're using the same gears. Even better photos when they're on better gears. We certainly need to straighten this out. I'm not saying you or anyone is one, but we shouldn't lack or only focusing in gears than building own skills. That should be what counts the most before even better gears. My 2 cents smile.gif
You shouldn't compare different type of lenses like that. Each that you mentioned above has different focal lengths and arguably different superiority in different situation. I would suggest you to look at what you need than what you can afford.
*
I looking for a longer reach for portrait.. also looking for a tele.. 70-300.. i know the two that i listed are great lens.. we pay for what we get.. since i cannot really get those lens for now.. i think i just use those budget ones lu~~ and i know there will be a difference in quality in that as well.. i just using an example of those lenses that i cannot afford at this moment of time. if they release the af-s 85mm 1.8g at that price, then i really have to look at other alternatives edi.. that was what i meant.. not trying to compare the 85 mm against the 17-55/70-200.. all of them diff category anywayz~ (portrait / standard zoom / tele)..

sorry for any confusion caused.. >_<

portrait lens you can use 70-300mm,
shooting at 200mm i can quite assure you have nice outcome  smile.gif
*
Thanks~ speaking of the 70-300.. sorry if i spark up old debates/questions again.. my friend recommend me the Tamron SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD.. what do you guys think? the tamron? or the few years older nikon? cause I think the tamron should have some improvement during those time gap.. but i still have some uneasiness over 3rd party lens as opposed to nikkor lens.. (that and also the resell value)

I don't think it will be a good deal like the AF-D judging from the 50mm f/1.8D to 50mm f/1.8G kinda differences :S

Sauce?  cool.gif
LOL, won't la... sure can do it one!
Actually, I think I developed different style when I started using different lens and gears... From D90 --> D700, lens of different ranges.. my style changed since I first shooting...
Portrait lens is a well... I think it is more of a bokeh lens LOL. But, wide angles, zoom lens etc all can do portrait as well, just without the bokeh subject isolation.
Used the Canon mount on 7D, seems pretty good IMO.
Based on their FB page, yes.
If you are referring to the subject isolation aka bokeh, no way. tongue.gif. Even the 70200 VR2 only comes close, but the bokeh a little diff. One is due to big aperture, f/1.4, another is the focal length, 200mm.
Welcome back to the dark side thread.

Once again, nice picts.. smile.gif soooo poisoned by you.. hahahaha~~

I guess it's true.. i love the bokeh effect...

about the tamron, previously i follow you all de discussion, you all got talk about some tamron lenses passed away after 3 years while the nikon is still alive and kicking.. is this a major issue if i were to go for the tamron 70-300?

Just FYI, my 70200 VR2 AF died just before warranty ended. And its a pro grade Nikkor lens too! Sometimes its just luck...
I use 70200 f/2.8 and shoot close to f/22 at times also la...

*motorsport that is* hahaha!
Not exactly flat I would say, its a little different. I prefer the 85mm on FX. Due to the distance differences, it yield different bokeh. Go closer and it won't be as 'flat' as you think tongue.gif

ok la.. i start saving now.. hehehe~ if the af-s 85mm f/1.8g not out by the time i have the cash for tamron 70-300, i will buy the tamron instead.. smile.gif thanks for all the teachings.. smile.gif

i never tried tamron, and not too fond of 3rd party, but i been happy with 70-300VR.
i got a 70-200VR2 now, but im still keeping the 70-300 tongue.gif

these were with the 70-300VR.
mostly at or near 300mm.

at night, the AF speed suffers abit due to the f/5.6 at 300mm, but its still do-able if u know what ur doing...if i had a D3s then diff story tongue.gif

truth be told, i still consider quite newbie.. for now, can't seems to find the difference of pictures taken with both lenses (furthermore, i have no experience with tele lens yet..) unless i go pixel peeping that is..
btw.. those are some nice shots.. smile.gif ahhh~ dilemma~ lulz

oh.. and what are the .. issues/difficulty that I will most probably encounter when using tele lens?

any other users with experience of either/both lenses got advices to contribute?

issues depends, what are u planning on using a tele for?

if i go places like bird park.. there are just some things that i cannot reach.. also events, where it is difficult to get close.. that was what I have in mind le~ @_@

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Oct 3 2011, 11:28 AM)
handshaking in lower light place??
sure got not sharp one if you extend to 300mm f/5.6 ...and that time i using D70s.

duno, i used few times with 70-300 non VR lens....
VR one i duno, i never use that...test a bit in nikon center for 1-2 minutes before but still can't tell difference haha..
*
ooo~ ok.. thanks thanks.. will keep that in mind.. smile.gif i think i'll get the vr (or vc if i decided to get the tamron instead) wan cause i think the vr/vc will be useful esp on the tele end.. altho i use tripod frequently, but i think there are times when I don't have a tripod with me or not convenient to set it up.. hehe~

My thinks the D700 one is quite nice.. but if ask me which one i like more, i'd prefer the D90 wan.. cuz of the composition, and the soothing background.. which makes it a good desktop wallpaper sort of feel.. or just a nice picture with soothing feelings..

70-200 no doubt good, but kind of tele for dx. And high price too.

Maybe 55-300 is better thab 55-200 but then is that extra 100 really neccesary in dx? It depends, but most likely not.

Prime lens for street photography really good. Makes u take the courage to shoot infront of ppl.

i still no balls to walk in front to shoot people with a 35mm.. sad.gif can't be like a boss

I already own a 35mm wor and i can't seems to lose this lens, cuz for friend outings, this lens provide me a just-right field of view.. was thinking of saving money for 85mm.. hope nikon will release an af-s 85mm 1.8.. else when i have sufficient budget, i'll probably go for 70-300 1st..

^CY: Liked.. good luck and all the best!!!
