Hi guys,
I am looking for granite for my kitchen top. I came across a granite which i really like. However according to the sales person, its a man made granite (made in china). I am a bit skeptical about the quality. Has anyone here used it before? Thanks in advance notworthy.gif

I think it is a solid surface hard top. Quit commonly use in the market now. Good quality one come from Korea or Germany.

There are man-made granite and there are solid surface top. The two of them are not the same.

Now, I'm not an expert here, but I would venture to say that man-made granite is not as durable as granite.
I've never seen a broken granite top before, but I've seen broken man-made granite before.
But then again, I think it is more than enough to withstand a normal kitchen use.

Well if it matters to you, the one I saw broken was when it was being taken apart for renovation. It can withstand normal usage just fine.

How much is this man-made granite? If price is not too much difference from natural granite then no point.

I think by man-made granite you are refering to quartz stone surface?

I used to work in a showroom which we sell table tops too. So here i am to share some of my experience with you smile.gif

Granite = cut out from natural stone, polish then install. (Since natural stones have small pore holes, so it will be little more risky to get stain. But there are many types and different grades for granites top too)

Quartz Stone = Man-made table top with 93% quartz, hardest mineral for solid tops. Looks shining and like natural stone. Non-porous stain free. (15 years warranty for colour changes from SAMSUNG Radianz, Fully imported from korea)

Solid Surface = Hard solid top made from arcrylic. Non-porous Stain free (Mostly installed in bathrooms but can be used in kitchen too)
, Fully imported from korea)

I'm not sure about other brands tho. But Samsung Staron and Samsung Radianz is fully imported from korea.
the price is x1.5 - x2.0 times more expensive than local brand. But its worth a try smile.gif

NOTE: Im not expert on table tops. smile.gif but hope it helped.
