Rootlinux, how to you rate the wireless signal of the 751?

I got RB751U-2HnD last week, planing to put in my "server" room (aka store room)? Current Dlink give me 50% wireless signal in my working room, wonder if 751 will give better signal.

I also have 2 units of 250GS. Did not fully put into "production" only use it for cisco paring and testing.

Later when I have time, I'll put 751, and one 250 for my Unifi. The extra 250 will be use to pair with my Cisco test lab. If all done up, should have 4 VLans. So the 751 is good fit with the 4 ports.

The built-in antenna signal is very bad if u were some distance from it. I put the RB751U-2HnD in my room. Within the room the signal is good to fair only.

Anything outside the room is bad... sad.gif
Oh my.. I hope is better than the D-Link 615. If not it will be really a bad investment. I'll test it out this soon to find out.

Not a bad investment smile.gif Here the sample signal i took using Windows 7 catcher. Is not the most precious testing, but is something free smile.gif

Viru$$$ = Mikrotik RB751U-2HnD
Viru$ = Dlink 615

running on 5.12, with latest fw 2.38 apart from that i get these weird lags.. on the rb751,

dont have that on my rb750gl

not sure whats the cause... of it only difference there is a wifi module..

did the exact same cfg compared with my rb750gl but bad lag...

noticed another thing

on the rb751 i seem to have quite a high tx drop for unifi vlan500 , but on my rb750gl that has been bz pumping torrents away doesn't seem to have any drops at all..

not sure if its a hardware fault/software fault..
*
How do you check your VLAN 500 having TX drop?

Don't have this issue on my RB751U-2HnD, well maybe i switch it off when not use.

how to set 2nd unifi using rb250gs?

1st unifi already set up n running fine...

You need to explain what you want to do? You have two Unifi Fiber in one location?

RB250GS is not router, is a simple manageable Switch. I have not try using 2 same VLAN and separate into two more ports. Not sure you can do that. Hopefully can.

In Cisco, you can do private VLAN that may solve your problem.

Alternative if 250GS can't do what you need, you will have to get 2 250GS

I've enabled uPNP on the RB750GL and it's working. Is there anywhere in winbox where I can see the ports that were created by uPNP?

Added on February 11, 2012, 3:05 pm
asellus, thanks, I still don't quite understand in what situation we should use one or the either. I've tried both the examples given on klseet.com and they both achieve the same thing so I'm happy. Currently I'm using Simple Queues. I'm under the assumption that this is faster/less CPU intensive if I only have a few Mangle rules.

How many equipments you have that need QoS?

i use Mikrotik for basic connection only. Mostly use cisco for setting. Lazy to relearn another language unless required.

You don't have much machine. If it hog up, maybe you have too many torrent or p2p connection.

go to the ip>firewall > connection and see how many connection are there...

me 1 user can have about 300 max.. and on average 150 connections

@weikee , cisco IOS , can do scripting ?
*
You can, but some don't need too, cause already build in the ios. Like the Dyndns. Scripting is another level of knowledge. I did once for ISP failover to secondary "ADSL" line.

I only have one Mac torrenting. Just want to learn more about QoS. Not really having a problem with bandwidth hogs.

Added on February 12, 2012, 4:55 pm
Currently, with 2 torrents downloading and 3 more seeding, I have 190 connections.

Sorry if sifus misunderstood me, I'm not having a prob with QoS but just trying to learn more about IP Mangles and when and where to use Simple Queues or Queue Trees.
*
Using P2P or torrent will surely take up bandwidth may used up all your NAT translation table too. In Cisco it can limit it, but this will slow down your download. Think mikrotik can too.

FTP is using dynamic port so is not easy to identify. If you know specific FTP Server IP, you can than do QoS on destination IP.

BTW, putting port 80 as q1, if i use P2P HTTP tunneling it will go to your q1 smile.gif

Thanks, I don't have have my own BIND server. I'm using dyn.com for my dyndns. Luckily there're plenty of examples on the wiki.

This is next on my todo list. I"m using BiZ20 with 2 fixed IPs. At the moment just using one of them. Hope we can share and learn.

Currently, how is your RB750GL set up to connect to UniFi? I'm using the usual PPPOE client to "dial" UniFi and letting it assign my fixed IP. I've always wondered if there's another way to do it.
*
When you got the IP after successful dial in PPPoE, what subnet did you get? 255.255.255.252? or 255.255.255.255 (/32 or /30) ?

That mean, the 2 ip is route to your router already. If you trace route from another network (ISP) you see it will reach your Mikrotik router.
