thats why nano cell towers are increasing smile.gif

so 1 high powered or many small lower powered = lower or higher RF radiation ?

I guess it should be much lower if I'm calculating correctly. I'm using RB941-2nD aka hAP Lite. Specs has it at 22dBm max transmit power, 2 of these total only 25dBm. Even if I have 6, they're still below the 1000mW max of the RB951Ui-2HnD. And this is assuming they're transmitting at max power, in actual use I think it will be probably lower.

Reception will definitely be better since 2 x hAP Lite will have a total of 4 antennas which can be placed strategically to cover more of the area.

Long change log but notably pppoe fastpath support and wireless-rep package.

Upgraded on RB2011UAS-2HnD so far OK.

Why don't they just use the RB951 as the AP? But pay extra for the UAP?

imho, wireless performance on mikrotik still kinda lacking wink.gif

Current models Mikrotik wifi seems to be quite OK though I did complain incessantly about the RB751G-2HnD on the mikrotik forums a few years ago. UAPs are good too especially features like zero handoff.

In this case, just wondering why they didn't go with say a RB750GL + the UAP, cheaper right?

btw, default login on the UAP is ubnt/ubnt. You think I should flash it with a random jpg from my HD? smile.gif

Crap, just realised I shouldn't use the RB951 itself run the bandwidth test. No wonder the throughput is so low. The bandwidth test bottleneck by the RB951 CPU & because it go through the input chain instead of the forward chain for the fastpath requirement. And after testing from PC > RB951 > Xeon, I actually get 880Mbps DL/UL on 6.35RC42!!! That means they do enable the PPPoE offloading on specific condition. On 6.34.3 it just about 285Mbps DL /  270Mbps UL. But once the PPPoE encryption enabled, it drops to mere 100Mbps.
*
jio, do you remember when you tested this and got 880mbps, was your ether2 (or which ever port you used) in a bridge?

Guys,

Can anyone help me setting up LAG for my RB2011 and Synology DS1512+?

I tried bond the interface but it says the ether that I wanted to bond already in the bridge. Then I'm stuck not sure where to begin.
...
*
I think you need to remove ether2 and ether3 from bridge-local also make sure they don't have master port set. After bonding you'll have a new interface which you can add back to your bridge. Warning: I could be wrong, I haven't tried link bonding before.

Guys.. I'm quite interested with mikrotik routers.
How is the performance( in terms of wifi range/speed and stability)  compared to other router within rm500 range?
I have no problems with learning on how to configure it as there are plenty support and guide around here.
Using unifi 50mbps.

Thanks guys.
*
In my sig, you'll find a speedtest that I did around my house with the RB2011. Overall I'm quite happy with the wifi performance. In terms of transmit power, the -2HnD models are definitely the strongest among routers of its price range but transmit power isn't everything. Layout of the house and construction materials will have an effect too. My house is hollow red bricks, results would probably be worse if it was made of concrete bricks.

While I'm using a single RB2011 to cover my whole house, I'm usually in favor of multiple wired APs. The RB941-2nD is perfect for this due to its low cost.

Hi, Am looking for a unifi modem/router.

Should I take the RB750Gr2 to handle 10-20 wireless device via AP and 1 connection from another internal router.

OR MikroTik RB2011UiAS-RM/RB2011iLS-IN to handle 10-20 wireless device and another 25-30 PC.

Thanks.
*
No problem, RB750Gr2 can handle much more than that.

This is one handling 90-110 users on Unifi 20MB. About 30% wired and the rest on wifi spread over 6 Mikrotik APs in a 5 storey building.
user posted image

Depending on where you're locating your router - will it be in a server room (aka store room)? I'd probably split up the router and the APs.

Routing performance of RB750Gr2 is slightly better than RB2011.

The network above is basically RB750Gr2 to 24port switch to the rest of the building. Very straightforward.

Thank you for the info. Will take you advice, play around and see how it goes.

original setup BTU>>tp link 1043nd>>zywall usg (firewall & router)>> 2 AP(own subnet), 2 LAN(2 subnet).

Did try 1 of the AP direct to tplink 1043nd  at some point it crashes the 1043nd(10-15 user on DHCP).

The zywall usg will be my next item to be replace.
*
How's the Zywall USG? Is it any good at blocking encrypted bittorrent?

Currently I'm not using any firewall other than a rudimentary one on the RB750Gr2.

Soon, maybe next week, I'll be putting in 2 VLANs, one for staff and one for guests and also trying out CAPSMAN which is Mikrotik's centralised AP manager. First time using CAPSMAN, should be interesting to see how it goes.

I was at Landasan, one of the distros, just the other day. Still no SIRIM certification yet. They optimistically estimate August for any of the AC stuff. Dunno why so slow. I'm waiting too.

I heard that RouterBoardOS comes with RADIUS. Anyone had tried to setup before? I might look to purchase Mikrotik router one because I'm not familiar with Unix/Linux but I want to setup RADIUS on my network.
*
There's a package called Usermanager which is a basic Radius server.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:User_Manager

Quite easy to setup and use.

You can order it from oversea if you willing to take risk. If the total value of your order is under MYR500, it is usually fine. I had my hap ac for almost 4 months now.
*
Aside from tax and warranty, I'm mostly concerned that it gets stopped and need to go SIRIM. Many years ago, I ordered a Global Village modem from the US and it was stopped at customs and had to take it to SIRIM for testing. Very inconvenient.

What's a good place to order it from?

Wifi router usually OK as long as the total cost + shipping is below myr500 & for your own personal use. Anything more be taxed or require SIRIM, unless you bought & shipped from Amazon, which I did for Asus routers. But anything related to telephony including fax modem will very likely to be stopped for SIRIM approval. Even dumb wired headset get stopped just because it had words telephony in the description.

Warranty wise is not really a concern for me as the defects rate is much lower than the cost difference. Anyway Mikrotik warranty & support is really meh. I had issues with one of my rb2011uas-rm related to routerboot (likely caused by nand issue), not only I couldn't get replacement due to "it works with the older routerboot it was shipped with", it took about 2 months for Mikrotik to reply to my support case just because "they could not replicate the issues". And most of the time you won't even aware of the defects such as this until months later.

Anyway I bought mine from eurodk for testing purpose.
*
Thanks for the info. Won't a Wifi router run a good risk of requiring SIRIM since it has a radio in it?

Will definitely check out eurodk. Have you ever looked at ordering form Indonesia? Since they're much closer, shipping might be cheaper? Mikrotik seems to be quite popular there.

Hi guys, I have a RB951Ui from Cloudstore. I'm been getting very low overall ccq (around 30) lately over wifi at night which means very slow and unstable. LAN works completely fine in pushing my full 30mbps unifi speed. Tried to change tx power to 17dbm instead of default, the problem still there. Tried to change to only 20mhz, problem still there. Is there any more things that I can try to change? Or am I having a faulty unit?

A couple of notes:
1.I followed exactly how to setup unifi through mikrotik.com.my.
2.My password is wpa/wpa2 psk with aes ccm.
3.Condo. Top floor (29th).
4.It usually happens at night.
5.Signal is completely full bar from the 2nd floor of my unit. (Router on the wall of 1st floor).

No suggestion of changing router. That's my last resort. I'll be very grateful if there is anyone that can help me.
*
Did you manage to solve your problem? Do you get low CCQ even when close to the router? Low CCQ with high signal is usually an indication of interference. Not much you can do except to change channels. 20MHz is suppose to help but you already tried that.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is a hardware problem with the RB. Maybe antenna or radio. But if that's the case then it should be the same 24/7 and not just at night.

Have you done a spectral scan?

Anyone here use any network monitoring systems? I've been using PRTG 15 since I have a Windows Server not doing much. It's quite nice and free for up to 100 sensors but gets really expensive when you need more than that. Of course, there's an older cracked version which works quite well but looking to avoid that.

Had planned to try Dude but don't have a compatible RB to run Dude server. And my server is 2012 Foundation, no Hyper-V. :-( Maybe if I can find a spare PC or VM, I'll install CHR just for Dude. Or one of those Linux based ones.

Mainly want to monitor remote routers & servers. Any recommendations?

amirsubhi no worries.

For those who's wondering what it is, the Dude is Mikrotik's network monitoring system. It's free and tailored to Mikrotik's routers, APs and switches.

It's client/server. The older version 4 server and client runs on Windows. The new v6 has a server which runs in RouterOS but not all, only x86, CHR, TILE or ARM routers. The v6 client runs on Windows or in WINE if you're using Linux or OSX as I am.

So the cheapest RB to run Dude v6 server is RB3011 or RB850GX2. The free way is to run it on CHR.

Now trying CHR in VMWare Player.

It's like the ones you see at Starbucks, Coffeenbean or McD. No need wifi password but need to key in a code (Starbucks) or key in some info.

I think Starbucks and Coffeebean ones are using Mikrotik as the Hotspot controller.

To do your own, start at the Mikrotik wiki. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/Hotspot

Hi sifu sekalian, I need some help here.

Just setup dual wan with load balancing on RB951G, internet works.
But I have another problem now,

Streamyx Modem on ether1 as WAN1
3G USB data on usb1 as WAN2
PC1 on ether2 @ 192.168.0.101
PC2 on ether3 @ 192.168.0.102
PC3 on ether4 @ 192.168.0.103
All other devices -> TP-Link WDR4300 WiFi on ether5 @ 192.168.10.x

I tried every solutions I found on google, but still couldn't make PC1,2,3 share folders with ether5.
How to bridge them?  bangwall.gif  confused.gif

Thank you guys.
*
ether 2,3,4 is in a bridge right? ether5 is on its own? You'll need to route 192.168.10.0/24 to ether5 and vice versa, 192.168.0.0/24 to the ether 2,3,4's bridge (you should have this route already.)

Broadcast won't work so you won't be able to see eg: Windows shares in Windows Explorer but once routed, you should be able to access PC1 using \\192.168.0.101, etc...
