I read somewher that if you work 8 months or more (meaning 8 months at sea in a year) only then you can get tax free salary. Not sure if this is true. Need some other person who is expert to comment on this. Anyone??

nah nothing like that...

for malaysian ship.. u are exempted from tax.. it means the company is malaysian registered.

Definition of "Malaysian Ship" under subsection 54A(6) - "means a sea going ship registered as such under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 other than a ferry, barge, tug-boat, supply vessel, crew boat, lighter, dredger, fishing boat or other similar vessel".

so if u work in malaysian company for fishingboats dredgers barge, tug boats.. u are liable for tax..

if u work in a foreign company.. u neednt pay tax either..

Hey wassup people... I would really like to know from all who are experienced and geniuses here in this thread; what kind of questions would the people from ALAM ask during the interview??? Would be really helpful if any1 has anything to share besides "tell me more about yourself/describe yourself in your own words".

Can't really tell... basically they just wanna screw with u, see how ur response will be.. but at least u must some persistence and genuine interest in the career... and dont crack under pressure..

During my interview i still remember the interviewer said to me " you dont look like a seafarer to me" before i even sat down. So u get the idea right?

What do you seafarers do on the ship when you guys are bored?

I always wanted to sail on a ship. But I'm afraid that the long trip will bore me to death.

Hi zizdnyll,

Thanks for replying my pm.. Btw, I dont think my job now is decent.. haha.. I am more into hands on person.. now doing more into project management.. and designing.. sigh.. it bores me to death.. and furthermore, I just cant see where I am in the next 5 - 10 years if I still doing this job.. other than being a lame project manager, or head department (haha.. I hope).. the best I can do to upgrade my self is taking the IR title, or maybe some project management certificate..πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯😧
