Hi guys,

Recently i have tried out ikea's besta tv planner to plan out my tv console.
I was wondering has anyone actually did their tv console with ikea/besta.
Came up with this design:



I was told by my contractor that Ikea's Besta series are made of chipboard.
Hence, if attached to wall with simple wall brackets, the cabinet might fall in less than 2 years.
Any thoughts?

I would appreciate any advice.

hi. havent installed any besta cabinets but from experience: i have fitted cabinets from IKEA to walls with normal included brackets - they have been lasting for around 12 years now without the slightest issue. mind you some i use to store canned goods and other heavy stuff in a store. totally no issue. i would say that ikea chipboard (MDF i think) is way better than the local crap they shove down your throat. i had a normal built in kitchen cabinet previously and the shelves were bending, peeling and cracking. cabinet itself also not too good. was holding but visible deteriorated in about 3 years time (it wasnt a cheap kitchen either!). from that experience and comparison i'd buy ikea chip-board consoles anyday over a locally supplied built in solution. this of course is my personal experience. your mileage may vary

Bro.. Besta design is more for condo / apartment use.. when space are an issue. For quality wise , I believe Ikea cabinet are of above average quality looking at they price it reasonable as compare with those custome made furniture (wardrobe / kitchen cabinet). I myself have use PAX wardrobe system for my room... It is 40% cheaper as compare with custom made wardrobe of same sizes.. further more it come with all sort of accesories.

I was wondering did u guys installed the cabinets yourself or acquired ikea's services?
As i understand, these wall units requires wall drilling, i am bad in drilling.
So, i would have to get ikea's guys to do it.
But their services are pretty hefty:
Wall drilling
First to fifth hole RM65
Additional holes RM10 per hole

Buy back ask contractor or just let them do lor. Do not do it yourself! i regretted i bought a table pandai pandai ask them deliver but choose to install myself... Wasted more than 2 hours trying to stabalize the table! haha.

If you are able to DIY, then installing on your own (with some help from HM) would be the best. The most cost effective. Installation is quite simple and straight forward. Instructions are provided inside Ikea's packaging.
Else, if you have your renovation contractors, you could always get them to install for you. Sure would be cheaper the Ikea's charges

pay some money buy the installation service is th best la.. install ownself later roak already sendiri jaga lo.. if they install rosak still claim them ma.. kih kih kih..

The Besta comes with a 10 year product warranty so I suppose quality must be good enough.. I also like the 120 cm (w) 128cm high cabinets which is finished on both sides which can be used as room divider.

My brother in law complained to me that the Ikea crew that came to deliver his cabinets did not have the ga-chang to instal, only use the allen keys. He even had to borrow tools from my BIL, it seems. I suppose next time when I order sthg, I shall have to clarify on this matter to be safe.

actually this setup will be really easy to do yourself. bottom maybe 30 minutes, top about an hour of your time because hanging and leveling a but tricky but should be totally no problem if you know how to drill and use a water balance. make sure you have two ppl to do it though.

if you dont or dont know how to drill properly/level then get the IKEA dudes to install the top part only and do the bottom yourself. this would be the most cost efficient solution. besta is really easy to install (did one for a friend the other day, two bottom cabinets with doors and all - 15 minutes only. btw: for the black cabinets they look pretty great if you add the black glass panel on top.

After much reviews, i am still having doubts.
Probably due to the fact that I have no heard from anyone that has actually installed besta in their house.

Actually, what's your concern? Installing these are quite simple.
If you are into DIY, it should be of no problem at all.
All instructions are there.

I have no idea how to drill at all.
No tools either.
Installation is not my main concern.
Most probably will get the ikea guys to do it.
My main concern is whether it will hold/last when attached to the wall.

If the IKEA product is designed to be fastened onto the wall, I am very sure it will withstand its intended purpose. Not that I am promoting their product, but I find that most of their products last longer then those you get from the outside furniture shops.

just pay them to do the job - those dudes did my kitchen and they really knew what they were doing (i installed two ikea kitchens before myself so i can tell if they do a good job or not and they did).

Just to share the besta cabinet i installed 2 months ago. Working fine!
