just a summary why i said this wasnt a good idea in MSN a few min ago....

1. The character display's screen is no longer protected. You'll be wiping the display area of the character display, which is really prone to scratches, just use a tissue paper and wipe then you'll see a lot of marks on it.

2. unlike bezel which is usually Alu plate, acrylic has got thickness and it's clear. Any irregularities on the edges, for example the square that you've cut which is not perfectly square (quite impossible to achieve by using dremel without touching up using files) will be seen clearly on the acrylic. The point is that it's hard to achieve smooth edges, it's either you use laser to cut it so that it melts along the way and stays shining, or you smear it with sand paper.

3. I'm not sure whether this will really happen or not, but judging from the picture, if you want to let the black plate to be locked by the square hole, you're gonna face some problems coz the thickness of the acrylic is not as thick as the black plate. IF you screw in this thing completely, you'll see that the black plate is bulging out of the acrylic. When you view this from the side, it's not nice at all.

I hope you dont get discouraged or what, i'm just telling you based on my experience because i've tried a lot of methods to make it look nice,
If i wasnt mistaken, i think i've gone through around 9 pieces of prototyping sweat.gif before getting the real thing done and say, " This will be the final acceptable product "

Never give up that easily, tell yourself that this is my creation, and therefore my creation will be perfect ! OK !!! wink.gif

what he mean is that the lcd's screen is fragile and there should be something like an acrylic piece which protects it from dirt so when sherren tries to clean or wipe the screen. there is no change that the lcd screen will get damage. worse come to worst, the cover (such as a proposed acrylic cover to cover the lcd screen) will only get scratched
