honestly, if you don't understand it yet, then its probably not the time for you to look at rooting/ flashing.

my advise to ppl is... enjoy the phone in its original form. after you play around with it... and if you notice things that are lacking in the phone... then you start to look at how to fix the problems... or add the functions... and that's when you wanna consider rooting/ flashing.

i'm been using my phone for more than 2 months... i find there are some limitations with the phone in its original form, but nothing that really makes me must root/ flash/ etc the phone yet.

* no stock animated images/ smileys. even my old dumbphone (SE k618i) have them...
* if sending to multiple recipients (referring to sms), after it's sent... there's no way to know to check who you sent it to.

whatsapp is free for first year.

i suggest installing whatsapp and viber. you then have 1 year to convert your friends from whatsapp to viber.

viber is currently FOC.

if you know windows and the difference between power user and administrator... then think of root access as being administrator. in its original form, sgs2 (and other android devices) only give power user rights.

why need root/ administrator access? to modify the OS/ system/ kernel files. some apps that 'freezes' your apps will need such rights, i think... ok, i'm psychic and i can read your mind. and no, not going to explain what is 'freezing'.

installing 3rd party apps do not require root access. it's just a matter of checking a box.

but seriously... i understand your pain. why not suggest to viber (they have official thread in LYN forum and they do take in our suggestions) to have a separate sound option - option to disable sound notification.

actually, i think there is a disable notification option, but too lazy to check if it's the sound notification or the top bar thingy...

so just suggest to viber lor...

yes, can make free calls. for me, viber gets my thumbs up only coz they have official support in our forum.

they have indicated plans to make it very much like whatsapp (being able to share photos) and also to have other versions -- for BB, PC, etc.

but again, another major point -- its FREE. whatsapps for android... it's chargeable annually. the ios version is only pay once.

true. it all boils down to the user... if smart, then chances of getting hit will be extremely low. these days, worms, viruses, malware attack by users allowing them in (installing apps, going to some dodgy sites, etc)...

the same applies for desktops and notebooks. honestly, i can say that even without an AV, i'm quite sure i won't get infected. but of course i have AV on my notebook -- just to scan the USB my friends bring over.

same thing with phones... if you're not getting from any external sources (friends, 3rd party sites, etc), then its quite safe.

from market, i recall there were 1-2 software that was eventually found to be dangerous. i recall in those cases, Google used the kill switch to remotely disable and delete the apps.

no such thing as 100% safe. but gameloft's developed a lot of games for both ios and android. so, if directly from their site, should be ok...

never realised samsungapps got games there... all these time, i was only checking games hub. so confusing... so many 'duplicate' apps.

used to have no SP and then the crystal clear... seems the same to me.

but all i know is... if using swype, good to have oily screen. can't swype on squeaky clean screen, that's for sure!

just found out i know a few people who have a smartphone but is not actually using any data plan. they disable data on the phone.

they said with wifi all over the place (office, home, coffeeshops), no need for data plan.

just wondering... how many sgs2 users are also like that? can ar? i find that a bit kiasu, no? no offence to those who are doing this... but i tot smartphone is like having data on the go...

so for these ppl... cannot really viber in bus, lrt until you reach a place with wifi... no?

hmmm... seems the asphalt 6 free download is a special samsung edition. guys... wcg 2011 option allows you to use a special samsung car and compete with others from the country... should try. :-)

if i'm not mistaken, after registering, if you then remove and put back the sim card, it breaks dive.

i removed my sim card once and dive didn't work anymore. just can't track my phone...

anyone else can confirm this? or maybe its just me?

ya, true... i just recently signed the 12mths contract with digi (so my bro can buy htc incredible s). but i noticed... try as hard as i might, my usage still below 1GB. this is 2mths liao... if some of you guys remember, i'm basically under heavy/ addicted user... heh heh... makes me wonder how the rest can chalk up more than 3GB data. p2p via wifi hotspot on the phone?

personally, i think digi's rm48 plan is good enough for me. 1GB data. and sign up for this plan also entitles one to rm400 discount on sgs2. maybe can share discount with some who have yet to buy the phone.

the other one i found interesting is the u mobile plan a owner recently mentioned -- rm28 (or sth like that) with free talk time, etc... not bad also.
