what i do is roughly shade the area where the eyelash will cover, then add some strands over for additional details. even with high reso it will still look fine.
why i said doing strand by strand will look unrealistic is because of our strokes. it will look like wires stuck to the eyelid unless you can shade every single strand and place them like nature did.

use the mixer and mix the colour a little to produce more tones for colouring. helps smoothing out your shades

try not to use weird brushes for initial colouring.. try using the round brush and blur brush imo.. will make it look less messy

custom brushes save for the touch up and detailing step

just get a wacom and start painting with the basic paintbrush only.. eventually you'll learn to use more of the software features when you wanna improve it. thats how i did last time. if we suggest anything at this moment, you'd probably wont get it. so just a hint, use layers wink.gif

i chose not to put any responsibility for my hobby so i went for programming instead doh.gif.. which im pretty good at too (i guess this is what bro agito meant by multi tasking)

but well i did intended to go back the designing field after i graduate but somehow an IT career might be a lil more lucrative. but then again, there's always competition.. so yea never assume success is easily obtainable. (but earning a side income is always easy)

woah nice job there agito tho i kinda understand about the sword being simple compared to the armoir XD like myself infact im worse.. once i complete the main feature i'll lose motivation to do the rest especially back ground, accessories and even clothes (since i enjoy drawing potraits especially faces most) doh.gif

use thicker paper if you dont want that many holes due to the table's surface.. but still there will be some.. but then again.. that is what makes a sketch look like a sketch biggrin.gif which you cant get it with digital drawing.. even with effects the outcome is not quite the same

those are just tools for art tongue.gif imho a bamboo is enough for drawing already can pretty much do what you want but will be much better if its an intuos cause of the resolution and sensiivity. but cintiq=meh
will get used to the hand eye coordination when you use it long enough.. heck i got used to it in one day without forced proportions to monitor XD hence my first few artworks are messed up

theyre both diff.. still have to start from scratch.. either way. (that is if you can draw at the very begining)
when i first use the tablet i felt like i got flashed back when i was 3 and drew for the very first time doh.gif. i was guessing the slippery-ness of the tablet surface caused it all.. which till now i cant get used to..currently i pasted a few piece of paper over the tablet to get that rough and soft paper feel.. and i know it wears the pen tip alot faster..

try to measure.. using a ruler or even with the pencil first next time unless youre already confident with your estimation.

drawing really need mood ler.. havent lay a finger on my wacom .. couldnt get the mood to draw again since i resign from a part-time position as a drawing artist in some book publishing company sad.gif . cuz when i was working...drawing like 14 hours a day really makes me sick of drawing liao XD

programming student only lar... well my uni ****** me over by not offering any subjects on that particular trimester so i just applied leave from studies and get a job instead of rotting at home and become fat. thanks to that i bought a drumset and i've been drumming ever since while i still couldn't get the mood to draw yet laugh.gif

work was hard XD my finger actually bengkak from drawing pages of comic strips for kids to write essays. the pay was just satisfactory but the workload is .. ohmy.gif punch in at 8am and out 12am everyday including weekends (i got in at the wrong time sweat.gif ) ... regardless i really respect my ex-colleagues to be able to keep up with this working environment.
