teach me how to master lineless art... please..step by step...
shade and shadows ,hair,etc
X3
*
i draw my sketch on one layer.. then put opacity on it.. then open another layer below that and start painting.. using the first layer as a guide... after painting, remove that layer and no lines liao.

dunno how to explain but, (in my point of view) there isnt a solid line in reality.. there's only shades of colours, thus i paint them or if i do pencil sketches, i colour them according to their shades instead of drawing a line

tracing as in putting the picture underneath and painting on top then no..no fun doing so.. it wont turn out like this also anyways

i draw them side by side using photoshop's ruler as guide (if on paper i use the pencil to measure), the original is also transformed into black and white to ease finding the "outline".. as you can see its actually way off from the "model" .. not easy to get it exactly the same even with liquify... .. this is actually my first time painting a male tho ive sketched male before but ive never painted them.. its alot tougher than female as male faces have more details sad.gif but doing the sketch was easy as there's not as much curvy strokes needed rclxms.gif

tho i usually pick the colour right from the image via eyedropper tho.. lazy to actually find and match em. however for this artwork i pick from the swatches.. cuz the reference is weird..

and oh.. this time i tried using sifu dragonreine's tips on painting hair.. kinda happy with how it turns out.. notworthy.gif

ohmy.gif ... if i knew that earlier.. life would have been so much easier sweat.gif .. thanks for the tip
guess ive been doing it the hard way all this time ><

yea.. eyedrop from an image especially this one im working on is a pain especially the noise/effect. infact this one has a slight emboss gosh its makes life even tougher. well i usually just pick out the darkest and the lightest shade smudge them together.. as you can see in the pic, ..kinda works like a real life palette.. but your method will produce a more accurate set of colours... guess i will do that on my next artwork when i have time (holidays are over cry.gif )

wanna go digital so bad,it will be cleaner if i do it in digital.

of course for sentimental value..i didnt quite appreciate them last time cuz i treat them as "just an artwork" but now i realise its not easy to draw the same thing..its a different experience for each artwork.. besides.i doubt my level is good enough to actually get money from them XD

@dragonreine: thanks.. and yours is awesome as well. i like the mood of it. and the details are "woah"

used soft shading for more femenine appearance XD makes her look gentler and more "godess" like brows.gif

@agito: i actually reduced the contrast and blurred it a little lol.. wanna make this look soft-soft macam cotton XD

Added on October 27, 2011, 12:34 ambtw @dragonreine.. how long did it took you to do those gold parts on the clothe behind the guy o.O.. it looks very very time consuming

speaking of which.. has anyone tried using both bamboo and intuos? mind sharing your user experience.. issit worth upgrading to intuos eventhough youre just draw as hobby only? cuz i feel like there's limitations in the bamboo(prolly the reso and the preasure sensitivity).. its kinda holding me down especially during detailing

thanks for the info guys.. you guys helped made up my mind... was deciding to either upgrade my monitor to ips or getting a better tablet. i guess its time to sell my bamboo then XD... that is probably why i had slight problems drawing vey fine curvy strokes (especially hairs) bamboo tend to detect it as a straight line.. ima getting the small one as i have a small work space. and no intention to go pro haha.

Added on October 29, 2011, 5:15 pmif you notice my artwork tend to have blur edges..especially the chin area... that is because i cant make a nice curve with a solid brush >< forced to use blur brush to make it look semi perfect..at first i thought it was my skill then i noticed the difference in sensitivity between bamboo and intuos (yea i didnt research properly before getting the bamboo..i thought they're all the same.. just one has lesser features doh.gif)

just today i started to play with mixing color in color palette . its good to have sm1 correcting me since i have no sifu to begin with  rclxms.gif

you can try looking at real pictures to get some colour reference... since your into lineless art: colour tones, shades and highlight are very important since there's no more lines to point out the contours on your artwork.
Also.. burn and dodge tool can help in touch up...

but the most important one is the brush strokes ler.... if the stroke not nice, the whole artwork is ruined
dont worry i dont have a sifu as well.. i'm still saving money for intuos4 small cry.gif bamboo is kinda bad at strokes detection

colour's better but it seems the shades are pale.. try taking a look at the tutorial posted earlier regarding skin tone colours XD. do try to paint past the line as to prevent "gaps" in the artwork (as seen from your previous one) and use layers.
