Hi, all. I just lodged my 189 visa yesterday. Wondering how long before a case officer will be assigned.

In the mean time I am applying for work from here and have had 2 replies from recruitment companies. Any chances of actually landing a job before getting to Aus?

in my Visa form I wrote NSW. (my wifes' preferred choice sort of)
I actually want to try Melbourne if possible.

basically it is possible to do it yourself. Not necessary to use a migration officer.

I am using one now. I'm using Global Migration because I am unsure plus having them proof read my CDR's made it easier for the assessment from the bodies... Not a necessary step this proof reading. it was just for my peace of mind.

I'm still waiting for my visa approval. All documents in. Would DIAC be slower in these 2 months too?

If you want to work as an electronics engineer you've come at the wrong time. Because our national design and manufacturing is in the shitter.

The most lucrative electronics work is for defence contracts and they only hire citizens. Automotive is crap because the government has pulled back all subsidies, the last car manufacturer in Australia, Toyota is aiming for a 2016 pull out. Plus electronics jobs are a lot more prevalent in Sydney.

Move to Sydney instead. Or even better, join us hardhat wearing bastids in the gas fields, good money while it lasts. Somemore can surf LYN while working laugh.gif

Gas as in O&G? not sure I qualify for this field. Will they higher an electronics engineer?

Holden is closing their plant in Geelong. Ford is closing shifting their platform to Thailand. Toyota pull out 2016. Well, we're buying all imported cars soon. Bye bye to local Ozzie made cars.  doh.gif
However, heard that the car price will drop a little....hopefully

Well, market is pretty quiet lately. Even my company housing sales drop with the housing price hiking like nobody business.

Why choose Melb?

I've not really made a full decision yet just that Melbourne seems like a nice place to try out at. A good mix of art, urban and nature. Truth is, the first place I considered when I first contemplated moving to Australia is Melbourne, because I actually got a reply from there for a job offer. Needless to say I didn't get it because I was overseas.

Manufacturing for cars is out but I believe maintenance for them will never die out? That's the automotive side I was thinking about though I realize I won't make a good living from that.

Any good places for giving birth?

Not a good time to immigrate to Australia especially to SYD/MEL. Plenty of professionals looking for jobs.

Are you saying I should delay my move?

One of the reasons why I want to move. Hopefully I can get used to the lifestyle there and get a good enough job.

Is it dangerous to just go there without making a prior initial landing?

Dangerous what do you mean ??

Sorry, I should rephrase. Is it unadvisable to just pack up and move to Australia without an initial landing prior. Because, I had originally planned on an initial landing earlier in Oct but some circumstances didn't allow that to happen.

So, I am sort of just moving to Aus with my initial landing being on the same day.

Any advise on how to get into the O&G industry?

So far still ok, need some times to adapt since I just been here for 2 weeks. Basically start everything from 0, no family no friends here  sad.gif

which part of sydney are you residing in?

I've checked out house prices in sydney, and it seems really expensive to rent.

Yes, it is really expensive. Currently I am staying in North Sydney, the service apartment provided by the company for temporary. Will move to Chatswood soon. How about you? Are you in Sydney?

I'm still in MY. Just got my PR last month. Am thinking of making the move after CNY. Right now still job hunting with no replies yet. Electronics engineering field.

I'm looking at places like Homebush West, North Strathfield. Places a long the train line so I don't have to depend on driving.

Can't say easy to find work.. should be only easier if physically there.

I'd like to know how to TT our money from msia to aus? Western Union is so expensive. I read a website that suggested PayPal. but I'm unsure how to transfer within the same account.

personally, if they are willing to pay enough., I don't mind. because the cost of living is high. and becoming a senior/asst. manager, the tax increases and you might end up with less disposable income compared to the lower positions. not sure how true this is though.
