i'd like to ask a general question here. How many of you got jobs from online websites like Seek? How bout those from recommendations?

Any other ways of job seeking? Any groups to join? Networks?

If you're an EnE you should know these lol. Here's a terminology of regularly used terms in Australian engineering we use to weed out people who have experience in industry;

E&I = Electrical and Instrumentation
KORDIA = Microwave Backbone
HA = Hazardous Areas
EEHA = Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas
SMP = Structural, Mechanical and Piping
NTD = Non Destructive Testing
OSBL = Outside Boundary Layer
NACAP = Pig launcher electronics line
SCMM = Single Core Multi Mode

Generally if it has a JV behind it means Joint Venture.
*
I have seen E&I, SCMM. HA is referred to differently in Malaysia. Gonna try to remember all these tho.

NACAP and KORDIA I've really not seen before.

I'm actually moving to sydney in March.
That's scary to learn. Guess I'm really gonna have to start figuring out a career change?

Try finance, it seems good and they're always open to hiring engineers.

I've considered that too. Will need to work from bottom up again. But I guess its a better move compared to moving to a technicians work.

well i'm not really some high ranking person in my current role. I'm just a normal senior engineer and I have told myself to be ready to become a starting fresh engineer in any firm.

of course I've also considered switching to other trades and taking up courses offered by TAFE though that would be kind of hard as I will need to provide for my wife and kid.

What I'm wondering now is how my chances will stackup as someone with no australian experience versus the shrinking market for electronics engineers from australia.

Hi guys, just arrive in Oz since 12 march. Found a job with luck after being here 12 days. But I didn't find it using the job sites and all that. I went to the company website, then just emailed the contract person directly. No cover letter used. But I guess that's my luck. Won't say the job is of the same level or high pay but good enough to make it for now. I haven't started yet with Easter coming. I'll only be starting after Easter.

Better ask yr question on FB - Malaysians in Melbourne group. There's a rep from the M'sian consulate who's online sometimes. Also lots of responses frm others who have gone thru this as well.

but first you need to prep

Passport both
