Evidence to support your application
1. Obtain evidence such as employment references and detailed duty statements covering the
required period. Employment references must:
• be written on the official letterhead of the company or government department providing
the reference;
• the letterhead should indicate clearly the full address of the company and any telephone,
fax numbers, e-mail and website addresses;
• the name and position of the person authorised to sign the employment reference should
be typed or stamped below that person’s signature;

• the contact telephone number of the person writing the reference should be included in
the letter;
• the letter should indicate the exact period of employment (including whether permanent or
temporary, full or part-time), position(s) held, main duties undertaken and the salary earned
– positions should not be described by generic titles (eg. research officer, public servant)
but according to the nature of the duties undertaken (eg. research chemist, accounts
clerk); and
• a payslip from your current employment should also be included – this is especially
important from applicants working in government departments.

Wow, my company will think I'm resigning.

Gents, i have a situation and would like to seek for advice. I am going to relocate back to Malaysia and will be working from home. But my salary still issued from my Australia office.

I am currently using CurrencyFair to transfer money back to my Singapore account/Malaysia account. So it is not a problem for me to get the money.

The problem is with the tax, so to which country i should pay my tax ? Australia or Malaysia ? and if paying to ATO, what is the usual rate ?

and ya, i am holding Visa 457.

Not a tax expert, but think u would need to pay Oz tax. U will need to seek further clarification from a tax agent/accountant. For the rate: www.paycalculator.com.au. Enter your salary there. Tax rates can be 15% for those earning around 30K a year to 25% earning 80K a year (approx).

To transfer $, can also consider opening Citibank AU and Citibank MY accounts. Transfer between accounts is immediate. No extra fees incurred for transfer beyond the xchange rates, which do not seem too bad to me (but then I only x-fer small amts).

You'll need to speak to your company or a tax agent.  Note that I'm not an accountant, but has been in similar situation before.

There is the question of whether you are an employee or a contractor.  Assuming you're a full time employee, if your salary is issued from Australia, you will be expected to pay Australian taxes.

Where it gets complicated is what are you doing in Malaysia.  If you are purely working on Australian projects, i.e. your presence in Malaysia does not contribute to your income, then the matter should be more straightforward.  However, if your income in Australia is derived from you working in Malaysia (and you are working for extended period in Malaysia), then you will have to pay Malaysian taxes as well.

Countries tend to have tax arrangement between each other, so you'll have to work it out to ensure you don't end up paying too much taxes.

The last time I had this situation, my company had to get an accountant to file my taxes for me.

Hi All,

Can you pls give me some advice:-

I am not able to migrate to Australia as I lack the points for visa application. So , I wish to plan ahead so that my son could migrate in the future.

Problem is he is 18 this year and both of us are not sure what he should study for degree next year. I cant afford to send him to Australia for his degree, which means we need to decide what area he needs to study for his undergraduate to ensure he will qualify to apply for PR in the future.

1. Does it matter where he studies here in Malaysia?

2. If the university he studies does not confer any foreign university degree but just local degree of the university, would that jeorpadise his chances of it being recognized as suitable qualification in Australia?

3. Any suggestion which area of studies that my son should pursue in order to increase his chances of getting his PR in the future?

4. Is it a good idea to meet up a Migration Agent like Auslife at Mont Kiara and ask them advice for all the above questions?

I'm sorry if this a wrong place to ask but if anyone could share their words of wisdom as to how shall I prepare for my son so that he could get PR in the future and migrate overseas?

Thank you so much.

my quick input
1. no
2. no
3. it really depend what professional are needed by Australia during his PR application
4. if it is chargeble, no.

Afterall, maybe your son don't like Australia life as well. Australia experience during vacation and Australia experience when you have to work here could be very different.

If your son used to the lifestyle where shops are open after 5pm, then he probably dont like the life here.

Alright gents, lets not argue whether Australia or any other place is a good place or not. Just enjoy wherever you are smile.gif

Live and work at Malaysia, Singapore, and now Australia and travel between countries for work, i can say, each place have their own pros and cons.
