QUOTE(silentz @ Aug 21 2014, 10:30 AM) Oh sorry coz when I tried kampachi and zipangu, the one listed already out of my league. Of course you will have the same experience like me too. However, from your list, Tao is not ala-carte buffet while others are. So can't compare Tao with others. For money and quality wise, I would prefer you try Xenri D'Garden Terrace. Nice environment, not so expensive and quality is still acceptable. If you do not care about those and looking for wide and fancy variety, Tao is the best choice. |

Delivering Japanese Bento lunch to your office. looks delicious...prices starts from?Check out their facebook page: www.facebook.com/bentodevil Not your average chap fan or nasi lemak fare but the portions + delivery is actually very reasonable for the price. QUOTE(Azurika @ Sep 4 2014, 11:14 AM) Sorry but the choices on page 1 is very limited for buffet selection as requested. This link will help: http://chillout-soulout-freakout.blogspot....t-in-klang.htmlSakura International Buffet Restaurant is in Singapore Im not sure how Daidomon appeared on top, but I feel their stuff is of poor quality. Cool tempura sauce ? Rubbery taste tempura/salmon head. And dont get me started on their sashimi. They dont even know how to slice the fish corretly ! Kikyo, Maiu, Munakata seems like the only choice for dinner based on page 1. I was looking if they are any new options available or good 1's which I missed. I think the last update was in 2012 ? Unless im very much mistaken. 2 years could easily change the food quality of any of those restaurants. I remember Jogoya when it started and about 1 1/2 years later was a huge difference ! Maybe the be abit more precise, is there a nice buffet offering awesome sashimi and tepanyaki ? Thanks ! By the way, you sound like a person who appreciates Japanese food! But kinda weird thou, a real Japanese food is not from the buffet bar...fyi. |

QUOTE(Azurika @ Sep 4 2014, 02:02 PM) Will check it out. Lol...but you can teachI would definitely prefer non buffet style as the quality can be significantly different. Even the Wasabi itself can shine. However my GF does occasionally like buffets, hence thinking to treating her to 1. You dont need to treat a girl to luxury food if she cant tell the difference between a Maguro and a Otoro. |

QUOTE(Visualize @ Sep 10 2014, 12:22 AM) Hi guys. Anyone experienced the omakase at Ten or Nobu? Seems like i got someone agrees on my taste bud. Thats why i dont understand why Kame Sushi so popular. Word of mouth is too powerful. Not into omakase after my wife is pregnant now. It would be a waste. Sorry that i cant be anywhere helpful.Only tried Kame Sushi and Sushi Hinata before, and Hinata edges out Kame Sushi. I want to try somewhere different and considering only the omakase experience at one of these restaurants: Ten, Sushi Hinata or the newly opened Nobu. Any opinions? |

Restaurant Name: Ri-Yakitori
Dining Time: Dinner Kamatsuru Nama @RM75.40++ - we preferred our sake is hot and we both pretty like the fruity taste in it. We ordered a set of chicken assorted yakitori which one of it consists of Chicken Breast Yakitori. This set is cost at RM34.80/pax. Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - A little sourish from the tomato sauce which is kinda weird for us but it is still acceptable. Chicken Skin Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Overall: 3/5 - A simple chicken taste but it is grill in a way which is so delicious! Maybe you might think it will be too oily but it is done just right! Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 - First you have to stir the raw egg yolk. After that dip in the chicken meat inside the egg and put in your mouth straight away. You might not accept the raw egg but seriously it is really delicious to be eaten that way. Very creative. One just not enough for me. Chicken Wing Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 - If the waiter did not explain what is this, I might thought some other animal's meat. It is really required a skill to be able to skew like this. The taste is delicious. After all, it is chicken wing. One of the best part on a chicken. Can't be that bad. Chicken Thigh Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 - I love chicken thigh the most. That's the most delicious part on a chicken for me. The sauce is slightly too sweet but it is just nice for my chicken thigh. Eggplant @RM9.28 Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 1/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 - The way they cook the eggplant is by putting the whole eggplant on the hot charcoal. So in the end some charcoal stick on the eggplant and I taste the terrible bitter taste in it. Unfortunately, they said that it is supposed to taste like that. I just cannot accept it. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Food Serving Speed: Fast Recommended?: No Full Detail: Ri-Yakitori |

Restaurant Name: Nagisa Japanese Restaurant
Dining Time: Dinner Sashimi of the Day @RM65.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - It is fresh! I like the white tuna the best! The choices of their fish are pretty fixed to want the chef want to serve to you. Gindara Teriyaki Set @RM75.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Some people said a good Japanese restaurant must serve good sashimi. Some said good sushi. For me, I would say cod fish. Cod fish is really easy to make because the meat itself is already sweet so that's impossible for a chef to ruin a simple fish. So as for this restaurant, they passed my cod fish test. It is real good. Maybe they just need to tune down a little bit on the saltiness of the gravy so that the salty taste will not overpower the original sweet taste in it. Wagyu Bento @RM80.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 - They fried the tempura in perfection. Really delicious enough to crave for more. It is just the wagyu beef which is the main food in this bento is really disappointing. It is salty and not really melt in your mouth type of beef. It is a waste for such a high grade of beef but not really well cooked. Chawanmushi @RM8.00 - Simple steamed egg can be really delicious too. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Food Serving Speed: Moderate Recommended?: Yes because there is really no other better Japanese Restaurant to choose from in Kota Kinabalu Full Detail: Nagisa Japanese Restaurant |

Restaurant Name: Kiraku Japanese Restaurant
Dining Time: Lunch Hanabi Roll @RM30.00++ Outlook: 2/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 - It is a California roll with soft shell crab. The crab roe is not well coated as you can see from the picture. Very sluggishly done. The rice is fragrance but the soft shell crab is not really impressive. Sushi Zanmai can done better than this at a cheaper price. Kiraku New Style Sashimi @RM48.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - Their very own Carpaccio style which only has the olive taste and very sourish taste. I can't taste the sweetness from the fish itself. Not really a fan for it. Hiyashi Tororo Soba @RM28.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - It is not the normal cold soba which you have the noodle and the sauce separated. This is a little out from the traditional one and have the noodle and sauce mixed together. Usually when you soaked soba noodle too long in the sauce, it will not taste good anymore. However, this is surprisingly good to eat too. The ridiculous part is the price. Just noodle, sauce and Japanese Yam with few salmon roe toppings already cost you more than RM30.00. Unagi Kabayaki @RM65.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 2/5 Taste: 1/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 - Never in my life tasted an Unagi with so much tiny bones. Yes, you will always warned that there are tiny bones when ordering this dish but you just couldn't imagine how much is this. Every single bite is spoiled by the tiny bones. The sauce is too sweet and it is affecting the taste of unagi itself. Not worth it. Foie Gras Teriyaki @RM68.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 1/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 - In their menu you will see a sample of their Foie Gras Teriyaki which is much bigger than this size. It is an obvious size difference but after I had the first bite, I am truly glad it is not that big anyway. There is a strong gamey taste in it. Oh my god! This is the most horrible foie gras that I have tasted in my whole life. Restaurant Name: Genji Japanese Restaurant
Dining Time: Lunch Sashimi Moriawase (5 types) @RM190.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - Very expensive and too rigid with the choice which they already stick with which are Sake, Kampachi, Maguro, Ika and Butterfish. You can't change their fixed choices. I hate it. The fishes are fresh which is still acceptable at least. Shake Avocado Maki @RM32.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 2/5 Overall 2/5 - Common and nothing special to comment. Gindara Teriyaki @RM65.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Delicious sweet cod fish with the teriyaki sauce which is slightly too sweet. If they can adjust the teriyaki sweetness, this is the perfect dish. A fresh cod fish will produce more original delightful sweetness itself. So sweetness from teriyaki sauce should not cover out it. Restaurant Name: Sukiya
Dining Time: Lunch Mayo Teriyaki Chicken Set @RM9.90++, Tofu Set @RM5.00++ and Edamame Set @RM4.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Tofu and edamame is not good. Tofu is tasteless while the edamame is over boiled. As for the Mayo Teriyaki Chicken, it is acceptable and not really that bad at all for a quick lunch like this. Gyudon Beef Set @RM7.90++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - When it is a speed lunch, you cannot have very high expectation over the food taste. The most important thing is the meal can last you until your dinner. So from my explanation here, you should understand of the food taste here. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Food Serving Speed: Very Fast Recommended?: No but to those who feels like want to have a cheap Japanese food but has time constraint, do think of this restaurant. Dining Time: Dinner Unagi Kabayaki @RM52.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - The meat is soft and tender. The gravy is not too sweet and it is just nice. There are little tiny bones in it but I think it is still acceptable. Botan Ebi @RM78.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 1/5 Overall: 3/5 - I never order a sashimi shrimp before if you notice. This is the first time because it is their signature and indeed their signature do lived up to our expectation. It is so sweet but too bad that it is only 3 pieces for RM78.00++. Extremely costly! Kaki Ten Don @RM40.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - I just love Japanese rice. Even a plain rice with their sweet sauce can be tasted so good! Furthermore with the deep fried oyster, delicious! The only issue is a bit too dry. Luckily I have ordered a soup. Asari Sakamushi @RM30.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Full of seafood freshness in it. The soup is very sweet with slight mushroom taste. I really do like it a lot. Kamonegi Kushiya @RM25.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - I did not tell her what meat is this when she was eating it and she could not guess it at all until I revealed the answer. She was truly amazed that a duck meat can be this soft and tender. I think she had too much Chinese roasted duck style which is so hard like chewing a cloth. Sashimi Moriawase (5 kinds) @RM64.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - We were almost full but I just wanted to try their standard of their sashimi so that I can bring you guys the verdict. Only 2 pieces per type which is just nice for us to try one each. I love all of them except the mackerel which I find it a little fishy taste in it. Kurogoma @RM29.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 0/5 Overall: 3/5 - This is the most expensive one scoop of black sesame ice cream I ever had in my life. They claimed that this ice cream is air flown so that is why it is so expensive. It is really smooth and not too sweet. Indeed this is the best black sesame ice cream I have ever tasted but I paid a heavy price for it. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Food Serving Speed: Moderate Recommended?: Yes Full Detail: Kogetsu |

Dining Time: Dinner Homemade winter melon wrapped with shrimp & simmered with bonito stock Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 - This is delicious and very creatively done. I thought it should be some normal shrimp ball but turned out to be the the whole crust is some soft because it is made of winter melon and together with the juicy shrimp. Dragon Maki @RM28.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - The rice vinegar is fragrance and the prawn is delicious with slight avocado taste in it. Very well done. Moriawase "Hijiri" @RM180.00++ Outlook: 5/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 2/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Very attractive display with dry ice blooping out from the mini jar. However, the taste of the fish is quite unpleasant especially the cuttlefish. I cannot change the choice of fish here because it is fixed. Salmon is the best while others is not as fresh as I had before in other Japanese restaurant. It had unpleasant smell in it that gave me goosebumps. Dining Time: Dinner Dobin Mushi @RM20.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 4/5 - This is their signature Japanese soup in the pot. With their premium seafood ingredients in the pot has made the soup is very fresh, sweet and delightful. You cannot refill this soup unless you willing to pay the same price again. Wagyu Yoganyaki 100g @RM150.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 1/5 Overall: 3/5 - They pre cut small 10 small tiny pieces for you to grill. It is really delicious when they melt in your mouth faster than when you are eating your ice cream. No much chewing effort to do. Two thumbs up! However, it is very expensive. Aigamo Yoganyaki @RM28.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 4/5 - This is a 10 pieces of duck meat but in much affordable price. This duck meat are so juicy and soft. You still need to chew a little but it still gently melt on your tongue. You will be craving for more. Definitely! Hiyashi Chawanmushi @RM35.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 1/5 Overall: 3/5 - Fish roe and sea urchin steamed egg. Perfectly delicious but too expensive. Zaru Himi Udon @RM28.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 4/5 - This set of cold udon is comes with a bowl of duck soup. This cold udon will dip in the duck soup instead of the sauce that you used to see when you ordered a cold noodles like soba or udon. Very creative and delicious. It is a whole new experience for me in having this cold noodles. Jikasei Pudding @RM7.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - It is their very own homemade pudding with honey to tame your mouth after all the red meat we have digested in. Dining Time: Dinner Clear Bonito Soup (left) and Miso Soup (right). These soup is limited to one per pax only. Well, not really amazing anyway for you to get many of these soups. From the left, Futo Maki, Dynamite Roll, Soft Shell Crab Temaki and Jumbo Unakyu Maki. Dynamite Roll is their signature and Jumbo Unakyu Maki is worth to order. As for the others are least impressive especially the temaki. The seaweed roll is not crispy at all and the soft shell crab does not taste very pleasant to me. Their sushi platter is the most impressive one. By ordering like this already cost you more than RM65++. So it is pretty worth it to order and it is unlimited order. However, they are made of rice so try not to order too many of them which will make you full easily. This is one of their main course which is Tempura. It is very delicious and recommended to order. However, one person for one main course only allowed. The best main course is still this Beef Sirloin. Soft, tender and easily melt in your mouth. A delightful main course to have. From the left, Chuuka Wakame, Ebiko and Wasabi Ebiko. I do not know it is because their quality of their fish roe on that day is not good or what because it tasted so fishy and I have to force myself swallow them. I almost wanted to vomit but I controlled it very well. Their dessert also limited to one per person. They have to limit it because they are selling one scoop of Kuro Goma Ice Cream(left) @RM24.00++ and Oguro Macha Ice Cream @RM26.00++. Crazy expensive but I highly recommend the Kuro Goma Ice Cream because this ice cream is rich of black sesame taste in it. You will find that one scoop is not going to be enough. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Food Serving Speed: Fast Recommended?: Yes but not ala-carte buffet. Full Detail: Enju Japanese Restaurant |
