Looking for a good bond fund to invest now that many performing bond funds are closed.

Public Strategic Bond and Public Islamic Strategic Bond seem like good choices. Thoughts?
*
Both mentioned funds have 1 year return of 7%p.a. Not bad

If you have the fund for more than 90 days without doing any additional investment to it, then switching fee is RM25.
If you have performed any investment into that fund within that 90 days, then you will be charged.
*
i guess other mutual fund company do not have such rules.
the reason why they impose this rules is many investor switch in/out the big amount from one fund to another, and the fund size become unstable.
at time, when there is no liquidity in the fund, they need to force sell some stocks and occur lost, and will affect the fund performance.

How about the expenses ?
I dont know anything for this kind of stuff, is it like I dump 10k for this type of bond, then earn 7% of 10K ?
How about the charges fees ?
Anything should I take note ?
Regards
Linspire

one time upfront service charge 0.25%, no exit fee.
annual management fee 0.75%
trustee fees 0.08%

there is no tax on dividend payout from bond fund to fund investors as per the annual report, as when the bond issuer pay dividend to PM it has already been tax once.

So bro, do you think it is a good time to buy? Or other good fund you suggest. I'm a chinese, i think i cannot go for islamic bond.
*
Islamic bond open for all, not only for Muslim. Like halal food for all, not only for muslim.

QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Mar 3 2012, 02:35 PM)
But the fund got limited investment opportunity since they oni can buy shariah compliant securities
*
Take Public Islamic Strategic Bond and Public Strategic Bond for example. Both funds launched at the same time, and the returns are almost the same, Public Islamic Strategic Bond maybe perform a bit better. From the annual reports, Strategic bond invest more on financial insituitions bonds,
whereas Islamic Strategic Bond invest more on telco/ infrastructure/ utility bonds.

About the limited investment opportunity, in terms of chioce of industry i would say yes, but in terms of number of bond papers, i dont think so, as Malaysia is the biggest sukuk issuer country in the world, and it is still growing fast.

One of the biggest issuers are the banks, commercial banks are not halal, so sukuk funds missed out on that
*
Not exactly, for PB Islamic Bond and Public Islamic Bond Funds as example, one of their biggest holding is Bank Muamalat, and also Abu Dhabi Bank. Islamic Bank is allowed.

i suspect that this increase is temporary. i would expect them to do away with it after the elections.
*
dont think so, it is nothing to do with General Election.
In 2009, right after the 2008 economy sub prime crisis, the BNM annouce to give full protection for ANY AMOUNT of your deposits in any banks.

The main purpose of BNM 250K cap is to make sure the rich can spread thier money to all other banks, not just consolidate their deposits in one or few banks. You will be surprise in some rural areas, those rich Chinese depositors even put their money in Bank Islam, BSN, and etc.

PBIBF= Pb Islamic bond fund.
PB ISLAMIC BOND FUND : Total Returns from 05-Mar-07 To 02-Mar-12=40.72%

12M_GIA for Islamic Bond Funds : Total Returns from 05-Mar-07 To 02-Mar-12=17.38%

one year roughly 10%, better than strategy bond fund. Although i know past performance doesn't mean future performance will good.
So what you guys think about this fund vs Pb strategy bond fund?
*
the fund that u mentioned already closed for subscription.

Do you think public islamic strategy bond better than piblic strategy bond? I know past performance doesn't indicate anything, just want to hear your 2 sen opinion. Because i will put maybe 3k on bond. Then DDI 300
*
I can't tell which fund will perform better. If u r in doubt, split your RM3k equally into the 2 funds u mentioned.

*
You can either by the PB series funds from Public Bank
or buy Public series funds from agent.

The service charge are the same @ 5.5% for equity/balanced funds.

Just wanna know... what's the worst case scenario for PM UT if PR really take over PJ from BN? Will PM UT collapsed? Is it still safe to continue invest in PM?  sweat.gif
*
There is no direct linkage between Public Mutual and Pakatan Rakyat.
Public Mutual is a private investment entity whose invest in stock markets and bonds, whatever affects the stock markets will affects the fund performance of PM.

My opinion is if Pakatan win in the next GE, there will be some adjustment/ correction due to the market sentiments, uncertainties and etc.
GLC public listed counters may not change much, as it is only the change of ownership from BN to PR. Same as Khazanah, PNB, Tabung Haji, EPF, before that BN in control, if PR win then PR in control.

Speaking of which, I'm aware Dynamic is a fixed income fund. But somehow feel weird about the sound of it. Dynamic returns % every year is not fixed. But no idea why it's categorized as Fixed Income fund.
*

The full name of the fund is call Am Dynamic Bond fund. Bond = fixed income.

Should have grab the chance to topup CIMB Principal Australian Equity Fund when Australian market slided to the lowest last month!
*
1.88% sales charge is damn attractive, it is even lower than the FSM
i hope PM can learnt a lesson.
