I just got 25.4km/l KL - Seremban-KL with three stops and average speed about 90KM/H. RON95. Sorry for the dust.

question :

(1) im clocking 20,000 km soon. is it necessary to change the cabin filter, can we refuse to change? my filter still ok.

(2) do u guys noticed that everytime the fuel is low, the performance of the car dropped (noticed this happens 3 times now).

(3) i have err..thrashed the car until i can hear the swirling sound of the motor whenever i accelerate. but today, the IMA is hardly charging/assisting. the charging is there but only at 1/3 mark of the charging, even if i apply braking, the charging meter stuck there. the same goes when i accelerate, the meter shows only about 1/3 of assist, and whenever i pressed the pedal some more, the assist when south to charging and the rpm shot up to 4,000 rpm. mangg..this is so uncool..seems like the power lost. have i damaged the IMA?

(4) when i switch off the engine, i hear a clunk sound from the rear bonnet, i think its the ventilation for the ima battery pack. but the clunking is quite audible this time, not before. something wrong? or this is normal with u guys?

(5) now the car runs on fc so bad i can only get 16km/l. seems like im relying on the engine 90% of the time. could it be that the current hot weather affects the IMA?

can someone pls enlighten me.

yeah, quite frequent.

its 19,000km now.

love the technology, but the sudden drop of performance worries me.

Wow, you clocking 20k in such a short time, I thought I am the only few with such high mileage. The following just my personal opinion, please correct me if I am wrong.

1) I think depends on SC, they may claim that your 'dirty' (if they judge it based on mileage) filter may cause the problem to the evaporator coil, thus they may pressure you to change it on warranty grounds. So I think this part is arguable, maybe you can take the filter out before go to service and photograph it to show it to them (I scared they take a dirty filter from another car to show you during service, bad experience from the SC I used to go as found them to have tendancy to lie to customer).

2) Could be when fuel is low, fuel pressure to injector also become lower. I noticed when I open the fuel cap when tank almost empty during refueling, there is a vacumn hissing sound. The negative pressure in the fuel tank when it is almost empty could have contributed to this. Not sure whether other Insight have this experience.

3) Hahaha, at least you admit that you 'thrashed' your car tongue.gif. Does this happen when driving at very hot weather? Check your MID display, what is the state of charge of your battery? almost full or almost empty? Any check engine or IMA light? Not much charging could be due to battery almost full, not much assist could be battery less than quater full. Extreme high battery temperature also causes the controller to reduce the charge or assist.

4) Never heard any sound similar from bonnet in my car. But your guess could be right as there is nothing much else moving parts at the rear side of the car that could make noise after you stop and shut down engine except for the IMA battery components (fan, vent etc.).

5) Extreme hot weather and extreme driving style may cause the IMA battery and it's controller to heat up considerably. Sometimes when we parked under hot sun and the cabin air heated up, when you start driving, the IMA vent is actually taking in very hot cabin air into the battery compartment. If you do most of your driving in town with a lot of traffic lights and jam, 16km/l is actually not that bad.

Hope the info helps.

1) will try

2)kinda agree with u mate.

3) the battery state varies, it went full in to time and discharged quite rapidly, eventho the batery level is quite high, the assist just isnt there.

4) probably the fuel pump?

5) probably, since these few days, the hot weather is quite hot. hehe

hey i just found out that there are similar problems with the IMA. this is exactly like my problem !!

oh, i just sms'ed my SA. she told me, warranty will void on the exhaustible and disc brake only.

im not too sure about the 'exhaustible' though, perhaps she meant the wear n tear component?

Added on January 16, 2012, 3:23 pmit'll affect the warranty on that said part only, the engine and the IMA system are still covered by their own warranties. can kindly check with your SA calvin, if this is true. nnt byk version pulak..
