Lots of shops when I tell them it's for my hedgehog,... they'll reply "Hedgehogs don't need a wheel"!!!

HI. will be getting my hedgehog soon, but im already researching and finding everything that i needed for the new baby~

questions. hope that someone will answer them for me.

for the cloth used for housing base, i read that many uses "fleece". can i know where can i get fleece in malaysia? currently residing in ipoh. also if possible, can i know what is the chinese word/name for "fleece" material. tried to find them in pasar malam but nobody seems to know. rclxub.gif

2nd question. Other than fleece, is there any other material that i can use for hedgehog??? 100% cotton maybe? or those bath towels (will cut them small)? hope that there are another material alternative.

3rd, how do u wash the material chosen? do u wash it just like any other normal clothings? use dynamo and such such???? are they sensitive to the detergent smell? research says that they are very sensitive to smell...

4th. As a girl, i frequently uses body lotion on my body. does hedgehog like it? can i make them used to my lotion smell??? i read previously someone used oilment on their hand and hold the hedgehog, and the hedgehog bite its own legs because of the oilment smell left on his leg.

Hope that someone can enlighten me on the matters above as i would like to prepare the best for my pet.

please and thank you!!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

That's so wrong, in the wild , hedgehog runs miles for night searching for food and water. If you don't have a wheel, hedgehogs might get obese and bored. It's stressful for them.

Hi I'm not sure what's comfort wheels but I got my running wheel for my hedgie from a pet store in Bangsar Lucky Gardens. It's next to a corner shophouse where Boardgame Depot is located. It was about RM40-50. Metal wheel with stand and grooves in between for grip purposes (i assume).
Hope this helps.

Just an update on my Hedgie, After self medicating the skin problem for 10 days, spikes grew back but the skin still rough. So we decided to send him to a vet (Taman Megah, PJ).

Turns out to be mites infestation, the vet gave an injection plus some anti-mite spray and cage cleaner to take home. After 3 days, my hedgie got better. The rough skin came off day by day, and just after 5 days, all is normal again. Need to send him back for the 2nd injection end of this week to complete the regime.

Exactly like what happened to mine (read my post, just recently). Mite infestation. Go see a vet for injection and then bathe him every 2-3 days to help soften the dry skin so that it'll chap off.

I think this one not suitable cos the holes on the bottom may hinder the hedgehog's movements. It should be flat floor!

If can you can try to buy a Dog or Cat mobile cage. Less than RM100 at Ikano.

Or some sort of thing, and cover it with 2layer of fleece bedding

If both of you guys are planning to buy hedgehog, I recommend buying from a breeder. I can say most pet shop doesn't treat their pets good enough. They let them live in a cold and cruel place. Some of the pet shops are good but it have not crossed my mind which pet shop is. The truth is they only care about maximizing profit. It will be a ripped off and you will get a unhealthy one. To be honest, if you don't have the patience of finding the right buyer, you can use your luck from buying pet shops. I don't support pet shop anyway.

since no one replied, and also sorry for the slow answer as i'm not much aware of things here anymore unless someone tagged me. simple answer is just use your unused clothes. but be sure not lines were undone later it gets tangled on its legs.

yes, try not to use dynamo or detergent, just use close to boiling water and soak the mat (cloth) in the bucket wash wash then dry under sun like all other clothes. smelly then change, better than hurting its nose.

before and after handling them also need to wash hands throughly, meaning no lotion especially if they're babies cus they wont know what is that and can get naughty curious. if adult still okay cus they might know what's what.

conclusion: SO, just to be safe, try not to do any of those stated by urself. just use normal clothes for their mats, or better yet just newspaper as they poop like random no. of times per day. if anything just quote my reply and ask again
