I prefer females because you won't find dried semen stuck to their belly every morning.  laugh.gif

Or you can just ask your girlfriend? I hope she knows how to care for a hedgehog (or learns to) because giving pets as gifts may not work out so well for the pet sometimes if the owner fails to understand how to care for one.  smile.gif
*
she know how to take care dog, this i dont know loh
*
Hmm, I don't know if a dog and hedgehog would mix. Depends on the personality of the dog, I guess. Better think wisely before you get her a hedgie because she would need to play with the hedgie as well, so if her dog doesn't like the hedgie, he might try to bite the hedgie.

Go to Dr. Dev at the Kinrara Vet Centre. Google it. He operated on one of my hedgehog's eyes and has experience treating them. smile.gif Fees are reasonable too compared to the Animal Medical Centre in KL (which charged me double Dr. Dev's fees).

Same problem here with finding RC because all the 4 pet stores in my area that I went to was out of RC32 or RC36.

I ended up buying IAMS instead. The hedgies seemed just fine with eating it. smile.gif

hi all, i got 2 question :
1. where is the cheapest vets available for hedgie.? i want to take my boy for checkup..
2. how many kibbles you gave to ur hedgie for each meal time? also how many time per day?
*
I bring mine to the Kinrara Vet Centre. RM25 for consultation vs. RM50 in Animal Medical Centre.
I don't count kibbles, I give 1-2 tbsp.

oh i see..consultation meaning checkup without treatment right.?? is the service good.?
for meal time, how many times per day u feed ur hedgie?
*
Yup, usually won't exceed RM50 (25-ish or less for meds) for simple cases.
Yeah, got my hedgie's popped eye removed & stitched up for 200 bucks only compared to the 700 bucks I had to pay for the first popped eye at AMC, KL.
Dr. Dev even calls to check on my hedgie's condition after that.

I feed them either in the morning or at night. If I'm free enough, I'll feed them both times. Doesn't really matter how many times you feed them, as long as you don't overfeed (like give 5 tablespoons) or underfeed them. 2 tablespoon is usually more than enough for my hedgies.

Yes, they are. smile.gif
Nope, I don't have cinnamon hedgehogs. Just an albino and a few S&Ps.

hahaha..he/she sleeps soundly..
tired meh.???

Hoglet #1 is a lot darker than #2. #2 was more 'chocolate' two weeks ago, but has darkened up since then.
She's learnt to ignore me while I stare at her sleeping sometimes. Haha.
Being a mother is tiring work for her, I guess. She's a really good mother. thumbup.gif

If you have difficulty cutting your hedgie's nails, put it in a basin with some water (enough to cover its' feet). that way, your hedgie won't curl up. Then, pick up its' leg one by one to cut the nails.

Even Huffster, the most nervous and grumpy hedgehog that I have, stays still for me to cut his nails. smile.gif

2 years ago, I had one hedgehog. Today, I'm up to five. I feel too attached to my babies to sell them off.

Haha, yes, I get attached if I name them. I sold off two out of three before this but I named the two new babies this time, so I couldn't bear to sell them off. They're just too cute. smile.gif

Woah. That's weird. Lol. Both of the male hedgies that I have squeak like mad everytime I put them in a playpen next to the females while I wash their cages.

I guess they're just not interested in each other. Haha. At least you don't have to deal with the male peeing himself whenever he sees the female.

Anyone know any reputable pet hotels in the Klang Valley that cater to hedgehogs? (At a reasonable price!)

I have five to board in a few more months. rclxub.gif

How much the vet will charge if hedgehog get injection for mite prob?? somebody can help me..

Go to Facebook, search 'Kinrara Veterinary Centre', message to Dr. Dev and ask him for a quote.

The price is the cheapest that I can find compared to another in KL, which cost twice the amount Dr. Dev charges.

Is Kinrara Vet far from Subang? And anyone been to Klinik Mayo in Subang? Normally how much is for check up?
*
Hmm, it's not far by my standards because I drive all the way from Klang to this vet in Bandar Kinrara because it's closer than driving all the way to KL city (which was the first vet I brought my hedgie to for surgery).

Here's the view on Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/x5Sha

Never heard anyone mention that Klinik Mayo treat hedgies. Try calling and see.

It's RM25 for check up. Add a few more bucks here and there for medicine if required.

Here's a screenshot of the invoice I got when I brought Huffster in for a check-up before his eye surgery.

QUOTE(vicell @ Jan 24 2013, 01:50 AM)
hi everyone, I have a hedgie and she is 1 years old something now, usually i fed her a brand call 8 in 1 hedgehog diet, she loves it and always finish all the food, however after the stock run out in whole malaysia, i forced to buy her kitten pallet, i tried purina and royal canin, she just has some and she start to throw her bowl with food away, bang everything like telling me she dont like the food = =" any way to deal with her ? or anyone know where can I buy the 8 in 1 hedgehog diet again ?
*
Purina is extremely low quality food for pets.
Even the 8 in 1 hedgehog diet is not a suitable food for a hedgehog. Commercialised hedgehog food is not recommended.

Try IAMS, RC, Natural Balance or a few other brands listed on Page 1 of this thread.

Some hedgies are very picky with their food. What hedgie owners do is just leave the food in the bowl and ignore all the 'rebelling'. Chubster did this once when I changed her diet from a low quality dog food to Royal Canin Fit 32. I just left the food there and refilled the next day. She refused to eat for two days straight before she began eating the new food. When I switched from RC to IAMS when the stock went out, all my hedgies had no problem with the switch.

May sound cruel to 'starve' a hedgehog, but it's for their best. No worries, they won't starve themselves to death. They'll start eating when they get too hungry.

I am currently giving my hedgie BlackWood kitten food for the meanwhile when he almost finish will change to indoor Blackwood cat food because lesser fats. Is Blackwood good for hedgie? I prefer BW over RC because no corn or wheat
*
I always check the ingredients to know if the food is suitable for my hedgies. As long as the first 3 ingredients aren't fillers or something that I consider to be unhealthy/low grade, I'm fine with it. Looking at the fat and protein content helps too. Look for protein level above 30% and fat content below 15%.

I'm not very particular about what I feed my hedgies, as long as I know that they're not eating low-grade food.

Look here for the ingredients to AVOID: http://www.freewebs.com/thehedgieden/hedgehogcare.htm

I find the page very useful. smile.gif

Thank you for the info sifu smile.gif Oh yah heard that protein that is too high is bad for hedgie! Because I wanted to buy orijen or innova EVO cat food. Is it true?
*
Lol, I'm hardly a sifu. Too much protein is bad? I guess too much of anything is bad, just like with us humans.
I don't think it's anything to worry about in quality cat food though. smile.gif

Up to you to decide if the ingredients are good or not. Check the link I provided earlier (the freewebs one).

Hello all, im new here. This forum helps a lot with my hedgie research, thanks. biggrin.gif

Just bought a SnP from fadedtears. Dunno what to name her yet. She still jumps when I moved a bit too fast, but so far she has no trouble letting me pick her up. Except shes always running all over my hands and rarely stay still when I handle her.

I can pet her quills and sides when shes sleeping, but she will roll if i touched her furry forehead. Is this normal?
*
You hedgie seems like a really good-tempered one compared to my first hedgie, Huffster, who is a real nervous ninny. Huffs at everything and anything.

Hedgies have their own personalities too. Perhaps she doesn't like being touched on her forehead. Just like how my fat Pinto Boy hates being touched on his right ear. smile.gif
