I got an offer to work in Singapore. Currently the employer is preparing the offer letter.

The location is at Changi business park (CBP). Anyone working there?

After some googling I found that the nearest HDB township is Simei. If my estimation is correct, its about 30 mins walking distance to CBP, which is not very near..

There are 'premium bus services' that goes to CBP from Yishun/Sembawang/AMK/Punggol/SengKang. Gives me more options.

After checking the rental rates, apart from Yishun, the rest of the areas are S$2000 and above. Any idea why Yishun rental is slightly cheaper? coz its a little further from the city?

Are you insisting on "premium bus services" only?
There is MRT which passes by CBP (Expo - Green Line).
I believe there should be normal buses too.
Yishun and sembawang is FAR from CBP.

2k...you are looking for the whole unit?
*
I am really open to any mode of transportation. But preferbly something that can bring me directly to the office. (not like bus>MRT>bus..)
Yeah, I need the whole unit coz my family is moving with me.

Which company? Stanchart and DBS and lots of the other big banks provide a bunch of free shuttle buses for their staff, check with your HR whether your company has anything like that.

MRT-wise, nearest MRT is Expo which is a 10-15minute walk (depending which 'corner' of CBP you're at). So for optimum efficiency you'd stay near Tanah Merah, but that is a bit expensive cos mostly private condo there. Otherwise, I'd suggest bedok or tampines.
*
Yeah, I am considering Tanah Merah, Bedok and tampines as well.
There are shuttle buses from Expo to CBP, have to pay a small fee coz the company that offers me do not provide free shuttle.

Changi Business Park is located around EXPO MRT station...there's NO BUS routes going there....
U intend to rent the whole HDB unit at SGD2k?
You wouldn't want to be staying that far up north when your workplace is nearby the Changi Airport...unless your company provides shuttle buses from the different areas....else your best bet would be around bedok/tanah merah or anywhere on the east side
*
I am trying to find SGD2K for whole unit, but might have to fork out up to SGD2500.

Taxi or own car with a driver.

haha, i am not at the CEO level.. no driver.

I was thinking of the premium bus service. Stay along the route. Just one bus will bring me to the office.
The bus stops very near to the office.

You will need to soon get use to PUBLIC transportation....unless your company provides you a car to drive around...or unless u can afford like SGD70k for a car in spore(Kelisa,Chery,Aveo)...

Indians, Banglas are in a way timid, not many voice out their thoughts, probably language barrier, probably also due to their culture where they listen and not to retaliate words from superior.

Except for a group of elites who are very well educated (often educated in the US)
They are assertive, aggressive, pushy, and often do not listen to others. (of course I am stereotyping but there's a reason for it)
Hopefully i won't bump into anymore of them sweat.gif

if I bring my family over to SG (and if my wife also finds a job in SG), perhaps it will be better?

What do you guys think?
*
Its gonna be worse when your family moves there. The more non-income generating members you bring to SG, the worse -- really from an economy standpoint.

Rent a HDB : SGD 2,000
child care x2 : SGD 1,200
and since you have a familiy, (used) car installment : SGD 1,000

I just listed the top 3, which would already consumed >100% of your disposable income. sweat.gif

Hmmmm interesting ...... I never realize there could be so many complications.

I don't think I can totally separate everything in KL, e.g. I can't sell my house in KL even if I were to move my wife and kids to SG. My parents wants to stay there. And what if I want to go back to KL once in a while, I can't sell my car, and I can't terminate my KL phone line. So a lot of these expenses are still not reduced, I'm afraid.

If my wife comes to SG with me, for sure she must work too. But in the interim period before she comes, I will have to decide whether I personally want to expand my career to SG, or here in Msia .....
*
I am in a very similar situation. Going to start work soon in SG.
Personally, after working out the maths, I considered whether MY or SG is a better place for my family to live and to bring up the kids. The answer is clear so was my decision..

From my experience, the only sure way of getting hired through network is that the hiring manager knows you personally. i.e. your future immediate boss.
That way even if you do not tick most of the box, at the end of the day, its the hiring manager (i.e. your direct supervisor) that has to make a decision whether he can work with you or not. The rest like HR, etc do not care.
*
I do not think this is applicable in an MNC.

Generally MNCs follow a strict process such as -

1) All resumes must be reviewed by staffing, suitable candidates will be presented to hiring manager for further review, any dispositions of resumes must have the reason documented.
2) Shortlisted candidates are interviewed. Interview consists of at least 2 managers.
3) Observations and results are documented and filed by staffing.
4) If the hiring manager personally knows the candidate, the hiring manager has to excuse himself/herself from the decision making process (but not neccessarily the interviewing process).

I posted some SG related questions here some time ago.

Finally settled down in SG. Been here 2 weeks now. Living in Rivervale (SengKang), and working in Changi Business Park.

Any Xbox360 gamers here?

I am trying to apply dependant pass for my wife. One of the document required is the marriage cert. I submitted but it got rejected because it is in Malay. I called the High Commission in SG but they said they don't do translation service.

Anyone knows how to get the cert translated and endorsed?

Did you ask the supervisor why the dept is unable to transact in one of their national languages?
*
I didn't coz the application is done through my company HR. And my HR claimed that other Malaysians can produced an English version of marriage cert.

I do agree with you that it make no sense for MOM to reject my application. Maybe the Malay staffs are all on holidays.
