the term 'managed' the risk did exist in Risk Assessment and Risk Management . One who have done a risk assestment would understand that managed a risk meaning adding barrier to either minimize the risk impact or bringing down the probability. So the term 'managed well' do exist. well, we are drifting from the topic here, which i fully believed accidents are all due to human errors/negligences.
there is the issues here. bcos the person who is in the RM dept doing the RA not to the field before to gather the data/doing survey and based on theory & get the RA done. the RA most of the time is just "paperwork" which in real-life when really happen, unpractical.

had a talk with a non-tech person who has been doing RA in RM dept all this while last year. seeing the RA on the operations for engineering was one can vomit, unrealistic & inaccurate info was done in the RA. i am from technical operations that time. tongue.gif sweat.gif
this RA goes to the Top Management then rclxub.gif sweat.gif

This regulation is more important for potential companies who may want to market their products in singapore.

The average singaporean employer wont give 2 hoots about standards, the only standards their interested in is the price. Or their famous mantra is "cheap and good" which are mutually exclusive.

that is why mentioned "touchwood". nothing bad happens, it is nobody cares. if bad things happen, then icon_question.gif sweat.gif

It depends on alot of factors, which company your working for, position, experience etc.

If your supporting their IT infrastructure for these companies, your most likely in an IT service company which support clients such as SBM and Noble corporation right?

You cant really compare salary range between yourself and those who work on the field on the rigs as technical managers, inspection engineers etc.

Some contractors are paid very high or your on long term contract, either per hour or a days work which is within a 8 hour time frame, whichever is lower.

I know some contractors who are paid 300 USD an hour for the 8 hour duration and a special OT rate above the 8 hours. With their allowances and hazard pay, they make upto 4000USD a day.

But im just grateful i dont really need to worry about not having enough cash to pay my bills and that i have food on the table and a roof over my head. And a healthcare plan.

well said.

job scopes & during negotiation, how urgent the company requires the posting to be filled up, the forecast profit margin & capex of the e&p project, etc. also, an individual spending styles & family commitment, etc.
Dpends on oneself to define high or low.

probably it's $$$ factor....i have 2 friends converted coz:

1) wanted to have another one month of maternity leave.  sweat.gif
2) can buy BTO
3) can get baby bonus
4) can get housing grant

they made the decision when:

1) after a year got married.
2) just delivered baby.

only the wife will convert if some are smart ones. a cousin has been at sg since early 1990s. his wife becomes sg. no one can predict the future for such above case.

Maternity leave = your one month salary
Grant + BTO = a little discount for new HDB comapre to open market resale.
baby bonus = a 5 figure sum

add all up, say S$100k. that's what you get for selling your MY nationality.

after some years, you can earn more than S$100k in a year, then you'll regret that money cant buy back your MY nationality.

Unless there are other non $$$ reasons for the conversion, trading nationality for short term $$ gain for a person  in his/her early career stage is not so smart.

only mentioned "wife" in my earlier post.

the other better option is to find a singaporean girl
then no one need to change any nationality whatsoever.

Some Singaporeans fail to realize that a good number of their countrymen (especially of the younger set) are incredibly fussy when it comes to job selection e.g. refuse to work in places like Tuas or Kranji because they are deemed too far and too "ulu", disdain for engineering jobs as they prefer the much better paying banking, consulting and professional legal sectors, shun jobs which have extensive travel or overseas placement for long periods of time and so on.
*
totally agreed. HR feedback to me on this of a candidate was intended to sign the offer letter after offering & they do know the work location at 1st when apply through job advertisement. then the candidate rejected bcos of above reasons that you mentioned especially "Tuas". what is more our company provides engaged free shuttle bus for morning pick up from certain interchange point to office and free bus from office after work.

1 of our singaporean managers also commented himself no more singaporeans at these new generations like his old time able and will take up jobs at plant or just walk under sun for maybe 10-15 minutes. he got no choice but to take foreigners until the quota reach. 2 singaporeans were hired few months ago, the 2nd day leaving without any notice to our HR or inform their supervisor and with taking away PPE and coveralls which were supplied to them on the 1st day of work.

My Singaporean friends once said:
Malaysian drivers: extremely fast but safe.
Singaporean drivers: moderately fast but reckless.

My personal experience for 25 years in Malaysia: tailgaters yes, just stay out of their way. Road rage parang baseball bat wielders No. I've got golf club in my trunk all the time, does that makes me a golf club wielder?  tongue.gif

rclxms.gif thumbup.gif a friend who driving from kl to singapore 1st time for sales also commented same with additional word "idiot", road hogging and switch lane with no signal.
