Speaking to my supervisor won't help since it is like a long queue project lining up to wait for serve(Sales person already confirmed with the client and passing the deadline to my project manager. I just felt like a lil not fair from what I'm getting > <' ). Furthermore we're just 3 developer. 3 of us are freaking busy from morning to night everyday. Good thing is that a new developer coming in, hopefully the job will be separate equally among. If not it is a real gg...

One way is to lower your quality of work. One one lowers his qualitu of work, bos will not trust him anymore and will not entrust so many work to u.
Worst thing he terminate u and you'll be free from your 2years bond. isn't that great?? freedom at last..

I think somebody need to invent a workstation that is moveable up and down, giving the worker option to stand or sit while doing the job.
There's studies that says when ppl stand, they think better, more efficeint doing work, meetings conducted more efficiently, slim down (not sure facts or myth). I always stand and do my work around 3-4pm, when my lunch starts to digest. and i always thinks when is this invention coming out. thumbup.gif

I have been pondering a long time to move this thread to Kopitiam.  As for you concern even if it is moved to Kopitiam, I reckon that same old dudes are the one posting, so you will still get your fair doses of batang gaythering plans.
Tell me, how much post you need to filter before getting a proper information in this thread now which is no different from the materials in Kopitiam.

The only reason why this thread is still here is because occasionally some queries by new members are replied quick promptly, that is before someone come in and ask for what's your gender.
*
Imho...i hope ppl dun tembak me.
Wen i was a newbie here (ages ago), I did find it hard to get infos here. Looking for infor without asking can be a bit cumbersome. Have to spend extra time.
But if u have very specific question, and assuming it's not repeated to many times, u'll get ur answers, because the pool of info suppliers is here.
If this thread becomes a plain Q&A thread, I dun think this thread will be as lively as now, and chances are a lot of these experience info providers, might not subscribe to this site.

So it depends, who this thread is for, majority who is your "rakyat" of this thread, so to speak..

If you are given below 2 offers, which one will you take and why?

1) Application support team lead in a big UK investment bank

Pros:

-Basic salary is 30% more than 2nd offer

-Very good for CV as this is one of the top bank in the world

-Salary is based on Singapore's market rate and paid in RMB with variable performance bonus

-Good job security

Cons:

-Have to relocate to China with one-off relocation allowance

-Have to manage 5-6 local engineers

-No housing, food, transport, hardship, expats or any other allowances

-Very high personal income tax in China (typical 30%-40%)

-No CPF or AWS
2) Senior IT Consultant for a new UK virtual startup company (only 5 months old)

Pros:

-Station in Singapore (work from home) and wait for assignments or doing sales calls or provide remote training sessions

-Travel around Asia-Pacific regions to work at client's office. Airtickets, hotel, food and transport paid by company

-Salary and performance bonus paid in Singapore dollars based on Singapore's market rate

-Low personal income tax in Singapore

-Big potential if company becomes very profitablle
Cons:

-Basic salary is 30% less than 1st offer

-No office in Singapore or anywhere in the world, report directly to the boss (currently only 6-10 employees), no peers

-No CPF or AWS

-No work no performance bonus

-Job security is risky
*
Are these the only 2 option? How bout stay in ur current job and keep looking for option 3?
Where are u now? Are u currently out of work?
In terms of monetary seems no big difference, since one got 30% higher pay, but 30-40% tax and no allowance.

In summary I see is that only 1 pro and 1 con:
1. Location (China versus SG with frequent travel)
2. Job security (Big co vs small co)

Is being located in SG important for u? For e.g. u intend to get a PR or citizenship?
If not it seems not much diff, since option 2 u nid to travel frequently oso.

So it's only a matter of big co. vs small co. Hence, I would go for big co. -> Option 1

Your points are all very valid

It would be good for me to try #2 first for few months and if it does not suit me then go for #1 (ideal case) but #1 and #2 cannot wait and must start soon

Added on October 13, 2011, 2:07 pm

Currently I am out of work and I am in SG so both options look very good (in fact I am out of work for many months)

I like #2 because it is like working part-time but with full-time pay, get to travel to AU, India, China, Middle East, US, UK and even south Americas

But #2 is risky as the new start-up is so new it has a website but no contents in it and no financial info or anything you can trace

Added on October 13, 2011, 2:12 pm

I am still talking to HR of both companies.

For #1, the relocation allowance is not known yet but for bank it is about one month's pay.

You are right if I choose #1 I have to fork out extra $$ for housing (about RMB4000-5000 a month) and bills (about RMB1000-2000 a month)

The only benefits are getting overseas experience and good promotion path
*
Looks like u prefer option 2.
Yes, option 2 is riskier, but how risky only ppl in ur line will know better. U just have to look at the big picture. Is ur kind of service viable (option 2) as a business. How strong is your boss' connection/marketing strength/client base?

Uk bank may not be that stable. For your info HSBC reported slashing staff (rumoured to include staff in SG as well). Stanchart also cut staff before. So wen it comes to UK, EUR and US banks, it's not that stable after all.

it is like a stepping stone for me as I want to work in SG after say 2 years in China
*
looks like family is also ur concern. if your wife is working in SG, the more u nid to stay in SG.
at least, worst case u get umemployed again with option 2 (touchwood), ur wife can still support for a few months.

hello.... you guys have any good and reliable room to room movers to recommend?

Shalom just quoted me $250. another movers which i get his number from those advertisement board, quoted me $50-60 only... so big difference yawn.gif

basically we need to move one queen size mattress, one small 3 doors wooden wardrobe, 2 luggage and around 6-7 boxes....

thanks...
*
one queen size mattres, 3 doors wooden wardrobe (can't imagine it being small, cos i think 3 doors is consider medium/big) 2 luggage and 6-7 boxes. I would estimate around $100-$150. i moved mine, less than half loading cost me $100. Yours shd be about half loading.
So if you can get $50-$60 it's very good. But make sure they move from room to room.
I heard stories of movers leaving ur stuff at the car park, and u move to ur house urself.

hey guys,
the company from SG offer me SGD2.5k +500 allowance. compared to malaysian company offer rm3620 in total.
claims he can contribute the employer part of CPF for me, at 1st I tot Foreigner like us cant get CPF but he told me it's optional so it's actually can and told me it's better to have CPF contribution....
may I know how much is the % of employer and employee contribution and what's the pro and cons as I read some1 post it will depreciate through inflation....
*
Just like u, im as lazy as u to google cpf and click thru the windows and get the exact answer, for somebody else.
But my simple view is if u dun plan to work here for long term (maybe just 1-3 yrs), better dun contribute.

i think they dun mean CPF monies will depreciate, but if u getting 2.5% interest every year, compare to inflation of 3-4%, u are actually losing out. i think that's wat they mean.

To those working mums that need to take care of family and cannot work on sat and sun, this is indeed an incentive to apply.
Dun think it is an "employment benefit" per se.

I believe just like CPF, when you sell off your property in Malaysia, you need to return it to EPF.
That being said, rules are meant to be broken, and in Malaysia anything Boleh thumbup.gif
