one taming method you can try is to put a piece of tissue on yourself for hours and then give to your hamster so they get use to your smell

user posted image

Updates:

Hamtari's white flaky (look like dandruff) have gone but furs still havent grow back. Still there is bald patch at his back. He still scratch abit but been grooming alot! I mean he lick his paws & scratch his body & then lick again (Is this call grooming)? Is it normal for a hamster to be grooming alot & always? Sometime he would wet his fur with his paws sweat.gif

Features: cheese grain is rich in calcium and protein, helps to strengthen teeth and bone development in Shushu (especially dams and pups), and extremely creamy taste.

What kind of dwarf hamster you have? U can actually but try to double check the ingredients 1st.. If it does contain sugar try not to feed so much as dwarf hamster are prone to diabetes. You can feed them once in a while in a little quantities. Anyhow you can purchase some healthy treat that are sugar-free smile.gif

Robos. Just bought yesterday  biggrin.gif  kindly guide me for diet. Btw, the pet shop owner told me that robos cant stand hot weather. is it true? coz im planning to buy cool plate/cool house for my robos .

Mine little fella was a robo too biggrin.gif I have 2 of them but they living in a separated cage cos they keep on fighthing especially the small brother bully the big brother until butt oso bleed sad.gif

They will get used to our hot weather dont worry but be sure not to put your cage where sunlight can reach. Otherwise your hamster will die of heat stroke! Cooling plate is a great idea. I buy cooling plate for each of my hammie & they love it. They will just sleep & pancake at there. My hammie used to pancake at alot at the cooling plate but no more since he was getting old. No idea y.. maybe no longer fancy of the cooling plate sweat.gif

Bout the diet you can buy them a good hamster mix. A good hamster mix for hamster is composed of pallet & mix that have a protein content of 14% or more. The nutritional which take between 18%-19%. You can always refer to the ingredients & the chart before you buy a hamster mix. You can refer to here also

I'm currently feeding my hammie Vitakraft menu with sugar free receipe but which i have know recently it's not that good cause the protein was low but i scare sudden change their foods they will not getting used to it & stress them. So i think i'll change slowly. Heard harry hamster are good too. While actually you can feed them fresh vege & fruits but not everyday. Twice a week in a small quantities shud be enuf. They love broccoli tongue.gif

This is a very usefull site that you should really refer :-

Personally I would not use the bedding cause I don't know what wood they're using. I been searching as well but not knowing what wood used could be dangerous to the hamster's respiratory system. Cedar and pine must never be used. Had to bold that to catch everyone's attention  blush.gif Plus I read they come in scents and that is actually not good for hammies. Stay away from scented stuff.

Although yes, I am using scented sand from Delikate as well but I wish I have better choice. The others are dust which can get into the hammie's nose and into their system. Avoid dust bath.

In terms of Hamtari, I asked the fella before - let me get back to u when he reply me.

Thanks starrynight for helping me to ask. I might need to bring hamtari for a second visit to vet if still no improvement after he finish the medicine. I still thought hamtari would fully recover or at least much more better after seeing vet but *sigh*.. Not sure if the vet not expert or my hamtari are old. sad.gif

Heard positive comment from owner after bring their hammie to vet but not mine cry.gif

Hi starrynight, thanks for helping me to ask. I been cleaning their cage once a week but just raise with water no mild soap o anything but i make sure it's a lots of rinsing & it complete clean. While the play toy i soak it with hot water (10-15min) every 2 weeks once. Hamtari still taking the anti-mite medicine (0.05cc drug put with 30ml water, shake it & take 0.01cc to be feed to hamtari). I'm not sure bout that but it's really a very tiny dosage. I basically put all my trust to my vet sad.gif

But i have saw some hairs growing back at his bald patch just like those tiny baby hair. The bad news was there was a little bit of white flakes coming back cry.gif He still got a few course of medicine left. I have thought of feeding him finish with the medicine & observe for 1 week. If there are still no improvement then i'll take him back to the vet.

Starrynight, could you be kind enough to help me ask your friend if he/she know anything bout demodex mites? (it's according to the vet hamtari mites was a demodex mites) I try to googles it but cant really find much info abt it. I just want to know it's this demotex mites curable? It is a very stubborn mites? Any diet do i have to take note? Will he be recover back? Thank you very much.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Hi jeremy, Thanks for the article.. but my hammie got record of demodex mites (according to the vet it's a very stubborn mite) so i assume it's kinda take time to recover but i was hoping of some improvement. He was less scratching but groom alot. He still got few course to go probably 2-3 courses and i thought of after that will observe any improvement within a week if no then will take him back to the vet.

I hope there are another vet for me to choose but nearby my bf area just got 1 vet only & i don't want to stress him more so i got no choice but to go to the same vet again sad.gif

Thanks starrynight for helping me ask. I'm not sure bout the medicine as the vet doesnt really tell me the name & silly me i was too nervous & worried to hell bout my hammie condition that i totally forget to ask what is the drug is all about. I do hope it's not antibiotic. I just heard my vet explained that "the drug must be given the correct & right dosage to the hammie as the hammie are so small. This drug been used for cat, dog & horse as well but normally we just do injection on them but NOT on hamster cause they are too small. So dont worry i'll work out the dosage for you. The drug must be given to your hammie on full course k?"

That is basically what he told me i still remember it very clearly as i remember that time i was so concentrate listening to him. Thanks to your friends as well starrynight i might will bring my hammie back for a follow up visit.

1 more question guys. I recently brought 2 Living World water bottle for my hammie (the plastic type with a "DRIP PROOF" Tag) but then still leak a lil bit. Is it i have to fill in more water? i just fill in half of the bottle only.

my hamster pass away on friday due to old age...sigh...

I know he would go away soon anyways since he been inactive for 1 month already & even having trouble in walking. both of his back legs was very weak & keep falling over here & there. Even with all those signs watching him grasping his life was very sad...I hope he didnt suffer while grasping for his life...

I have a big packet of versele-laga - hamster nature (hamster food) up for sale. I will give the leftover bedding & toilet bedding for free too. Bedding left a little bit only but hamster food is like brand new, just used like 1-2 bowls only still got so much in it. Maybe later I will open a sales thread.

Not sure want to keep another hamster in the future or not yet...but if decided not to then I will sell my current hamster "palace" & a very useful hamster book. Lots of useful info in it.

@babybb - you dont need vitamins for your hamster if you provide them balance diet unless you are not sure about their diet. The only time they need vitamins if they are sick or old (not eating like normal)...
*
I'm so sorry for your loss. But he must be very happy now at the hammie heaven. You must be very good in taking good care of him. So dont be sad.

Well i got a story to tell also. My bf was out of town for 2 days so i'm going to his place to look after the hamster & the moment i reach i just terrified! i found out my hammie hamburger are stuck between a tiny gap of his playground fence & it just got stuck at there. I was shocked & i really don't know what to do. I have no ideal how long he even stuck at there. I think probably overnight.

I try to get his leg out but he kept on struggles & squeak in pain. I afraid i'll broke his leg or injure him more. So i force to open the plastic gap & release his leg. He quickly go to his water bottle & drank alot of water & he was limping. I quickly bring him to see a vet. The vet however slightly press his leg to see he had any feeling or respond but he got no respond!!! The leg turn dark red in color & it's swelling.

So the vet have given him some drugs to help with the blood circulation. It start with some kind of a Enz... & some vitamin C to added in his water. I have taken out the wheel & all the necessary toy to keep him from climbing & moving his leg so much. I have put the foods & drink nearest to his house. He still act like normal with all the drinking & eating. Just what concern me it's the leg. He not using the leg at all. The vet told us to bring him back in a 1-2 weeks time or if we notice the leg turn dark black then it's the time they have to amputate my ham leg cry.gif

Is there anything i could do more to make him feel better? Will my ham chew his leg off? Do i have to put on some bandage on his leg? I felt so bad.. i hope i was the one who got stuck & not my ham cry.gif I'm so sorry hamburger & i love you so much sad.gif

I have a question, my hamster is like sneezing or something like that a few times. Its been several days. This just happened like 2 or 3 days ago.. what should i do? Im just worried if my hamster got any disease.. Thanks..
*
May i know what kind of bedding that you using now? Pine, cedar or softwood are not good for hamster respiratory. It can cause allergy such as sneezing or itching. Doesn you notice any grooming & stretching more than usual? Does his 4 paws look red to you? or does anybody having a flu recently been contact with your hammie? Hammie can catch a cold with a person with flu handle him. Try to remove the bedding for 1 week. Put paper kithen tower as base & some shredded plain soft unscented tissue for him. See how is the progress after that. If still sneezing then please do bring him to vet. It wouldnt cost you much for a hamster to the vet.

Im using Delikate scented bedding. Yeah, i know its bad for hammie. Im searching for other brand. For type of wood shredding im not sure. I have flu recent days. But not before it start to sneezing. Hmm. Not sure. Seems like normal. His 4 paws also normal. Will try to remove the bedding. Should give Vitamin C or other supplement? Can recommendĀ  any good bedding? i wanna change asap. Btw im stay at Terengganu and its so hard to find good brand of hamster stuffsĀ  Thanks sad.gif

I'm using delikate also & the scented that you mention i think i knew what you mean. Is it you trying to tell us that the bedding have a very strong smell of "Oil Furniture" smells? I kinda hate the smell & i dont think my hammie will like it either. I been removed the bedding & put only paper kitchen towel as temporary while i search for another bedding. Dont said terengganu even KL here are hard to find good brand of hamster stuffs. They dont really care for hamster at malaysia here as far as i'm think. I ran out of ideal which good brand of bedding are good for hammie too. Using this delikate my hammie stratching more than usual so i remove it quickly. Try to work it out without bedding for 1 week see how it going 1st. Since you are living at terengganu you might need to opt for the online petstore.

http://www.chubbypetsgarden.com/webshaper/...Cat.asp?catID=4

http://petshack.com.my/webshaper/store/viewCat.asp?catID=90

Guys any1 of you using Chipsi Super Bedding for your hammie? Any review? My second option would be this 1. I have view the texture thru pets wonderland since they are using it to their hammie & the texture are very fine but not sure bout the smells. Might afraid it would be like the delikate smells.

I tried chipsi before. Not the "super" version but the normal version. What is the difference with "super"? New bedding ar? Never see this before but its been quite some time since I went to petshop anyways  laugh.gif

If you asked me the normal version, imo delikate is more better than chipsi coz of the texture. Chipsi texture is a bit rough & there might be some wood not cut properly so might hurt your hamster. Perhaps its my batch only, that I am not sure. Perhaps the "super" means super fine bedding? That I am not sure as well...but thats my review on the normal version. Its cheap though tongue.gif
*
Oh mind telling me how is the chipsi smell like? Is it like the delikate smell as well? Like the "Oil Furniture" smells? I dont like that smell. Previous was using vitakraft bedding & it's good in term of smells its not strong & it got natural wood smells like those ikea furniture smell but sadly it have stop production. Yup Super does mean super fine i guess based on the texture i have saw.. sweat.gif

QUOTE(infernoaswen @ Jan 8 2013, 03:25 PM)
texture wise its like made from hardwood where as delikate I feel its more softer. Not very sure about super but I assume its just smaller in size but using same wood.

Smell wise yeah chipsi is a bit more natural but still got smell. Dont recall much on the smell since I stopped using it very long time ago but delikate is a bit strong if I remember correctly. Good thing about chipsi is you can take out & shake shake & leave it for 1 day to reduce the smell. Also there is a strawberry smell which smells quite nice & you can mix it with the original one to balance it out.

Another thing about chipsi is its very dusty compared to delikate. But delikate is quite dusty as well...best is to get homefriends bedding.

Trust me you wont regreat buying that bedding...perhaps you can mix it with chipsi if cost is quite high so it can last a bit longer. Thats what I did when I have half packet of delikate bedding.
*
Actually i brought homefriends bedding before but i'm not sure it's coincidence or it's not suit my ham. Within 1 week of the homefriends bedding my ham started to loss fur & he been scrathing more than usual. So i brought my ham to see a vet & the vet confirm it's a demotex mites. Sad sad sad.. i take some of the bedding sample to my vet. He told me better remove it as it kinda dusty. So after that switch back to wood shaving but vitakraft which my ham used to be use have stop production so we switch to delikate.

1st time user of delikate i'm very suprised with the strong smells. I have removed the delikate as well. Temporary without bedding while i search which bedding is good. Yea u're right delikate was quite dusty & a very strong smells to me. So i was searching which doesnt have strong smell like delikate. If natural wood smells then it's okay for me. Anyways thanks ya for sharing =)

Bedding with fragrance is not good for your hamster. If you opt for chipsi then buy the classic or the chipsi super. Any brand that are unscented.

You might need to buy a small beg to testing on your hammie 1st. It might not suit your ham if you notice any sctraching more than usual so even if you throw it away it wont cost u much.

babybb : Hey~ how's your hamster recovering from the fur loss?
*
Not very good ler sad.gif

We can see some improvement while he on medication. Fur been grown back & less scratching but then things gotten worse after he have stopped medication for 2 weeks. We couldnt bear to see our ham suffer so we bring him to vet to have a check up. Turn out his lump it's the main problem (remember the lump i told you right). But thank god the vet said the lump is not dangerous just that my ham's body too much toxin. Give some medicine to flush out the toxin & also some spray to be spray to my ham body. While my another ham leg injured still havent fully recover yet. Pity sad.gif

And speak about pity i remember an incident at sg wang. There a pet shop selling all sort of small animals & also small animals products. I always get my stock at there but i really dont like the people at there to treat all those ham. You know speak of sg wang there will be alot of lala mui & lala beng. Those retarded always kacau those poor ham. Always ask those staff to take 1 of the ham to let them see.

They doesnt know how to handle drop the poor ham & yell here yell there & then talk to the staff "ok la u can put it back". Got 1 time more worse i think the lala beng its the 1 of the staff friend he ask the staff to open the glass door let him play & during that time all ham are sleeping. He took the house high up & drop the ham who are sleeping. All of the ham were shock & woke up running. The retarded lala beng "muhahahaha do you see their scare look? OMG!!!! So funny!!!! U see U see that 1!!!" i was so mad & feel so bad for the ham. It's such a pity life to be born at there.

btw, what the pet shop name?..i will go see and buy something for my hammy. is the price cheap? do you see any winter white hamster there (special color)? hope i can gv a better live to the hammy..
*
Oh yea that's very true. Last time i was seeing she taking a bin & put some ham inside i though they were sick & i ask her. Those ham are sick? They said "nope they are dead bodies. Everyday there will be dead hamster cause by fighthing". cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif & how about those? Pregnant? I pointed a few separated single small cage. The staff replies me "oh that not pregnant. That sick" Gosh dont they suppose to bring them to vet? Just leave it at there like just waiting time to arrive only. cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

The price are cheap especially if you apply for their member card. 10% off on all products.. but mainly their stuffs are imported from HK. Like jolly, alex, pets88.. Its at sungai wang same floor with monorail entrance to sg wang.
It's at 1st floor (F065).

http://www.minipet.com.my/

Here they got a website. Hmm i doesnt really notice its there any special color of winter white. Normally go there just visit my ham type robovoski only tongue.gif But last time they got a very special breed of panda version of syrian hamster. It's really black & white just like panda! kinda cute tho.
