My hamster been peeing alot at the side of the cage. Its like super wet at that area and i did put alot bedding. I took a spoon and remove the wet bedding part , lucky the babies on the other corner. So now she started to drink and wet the bedding again.

Can i add more bedding? Mine is chipsi scented apple.. Or shud i just leave it alone?

I'm afraid got fungus will grow. i even see flies trying to get inside already

it will be better if u buy a toilet & start toilet train her. once she is toilet train it will be very easy to clean it...just replace the toilet litter when needed.

u can add more bedding if u want but not too much till she have to dig to pee...they need to feel comfortable....its better if u change the bedding every time if its possible....but honestly better toilet train your hamster...toilet litter absorb pee better than bedding.
*
ooh i see. Actually she is toilet trained , i put in a small house and she pee inside there only and outside of the house. i removed the toilet coz i tot the sand not good for the babies.

Thanks aswen.

White ate 2 of her babies today.. I left the bodies there... I heard that i should leave it there so she can eat it to provide more nourishment for her other pups.. One of it she ate all the intestine.. another one she just bite it 1 time.. AIYAH. SO SCARY D: hope she dont eat her other 5 pups.

-I added a bowl of harry hamster food fresh everyday + superworm. Apparently she only eats the superworm @@.

They said that robo are hardest to breed, they only breed in springtime . so its best if u make the temperature same as overseas springtime or smth.

Here are my cute little babies <3. Trying to eat superworm and just opened eyes.

Yours is mealworm..superworms is like appoximately 2 inch long..i cut the mealworms in half for the babies..that will make sure the babies not hurt by the mealworms...

My gf kidnapped my Choki(male golden winter white)... sad.gif really miss him golek2 on his wheel..
*
i do know the difference between a superworm and mealworm. It is indeed a superworm. When its head gets chewed off by mama , they will shrink a little.

And i give the mama smaller size superworm because the bigger size one are for my hedgehog.

QUOTE(Chisinlouz @ Sep 25 2011, 08:53 AM)
i see.. then i think next week any day the babies will open their eyes already. I can see them start moving with eye close, have fur like the dad, and eat some oat too =)

Ic.. if she dont breed its ok, just take care of her. Maybe its not mature enough yet =)
Oh ya, anyone can suggest easy to find healthy food for hamster? Because basically im feeding them with oat, and some mixture of hamster food in a bag bought from pet store. I see u guys feeding them with worms, any additional advice from u guys?  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Buy vitacraft or harry hamster. Harry hamster is more suitable for syrians , but i use that for my ww. With that , ur hamster will have a balanced diet.

I feed mine with worms because she's having babies . Worms provide more protein for her to supply milk to the babies.

QUOTE(Chisinlouz @ Sep 25 2011, 03:01 PM)
hello, my syrian babies is born almost 2 full weeks and tomorrow is 3rd week. They yet to open their eyes but grown fur already.

Q: can i clean their cage now? The cage is terrible with the pee smell. But im afraid at this stage if i touch the babies the mom will eat the babies. Need some advice here whether i am allow to clean it. Afraid they environment for the babies will be over dirty and get infection.

thanks
*
Well it is safe to clean it. I suggest u to use a spoon , scoop out the wet bedding , then put in clean bedding.

When my ww was pregnant , she pee on the bedding so much till i was worried. That was when the pups were 5 days old. I just removed the wet part of the bedding and added in new bedding to mix with the old bedding.

I also added a toilet , and she only pees inside there which is more convenient to clean , and i put bedding inside , not sand. The next day , the toilet will be filled with pee. doh.gif

I have 2 winter white.. Male n female. And i think female is pregnant. But my problem is, found out the female lost fur at the black stripe (in picture below).

The male seem to have no problem with fur.

Is pregnant WW have fur problem?
If it is mites, it should attack both WW right?
Or its my female ww have sensitive skin with the bedding? Im using chipsi brand)

user posted image

Did u change the bedding suddenly? Or did u use quite long time?
Maybe its irritation and the hamster bite the fur.
How old are they? It may be old age.
If its mites , it can attack both ww , but it depends.

hi all.. my syrian giv birth to 4 babies. 2 of them died within this few days. I saw there are like red-nose look. Afraid that the babies is infected with bacteria or anything harmful. I also afraid that its the mother who cause the death..

will too much of bedding will cause them suffocate from breathing? (because the bedding block the baby nose)

currently another 2 babies sleep outside of the cage. Shall i seperate the babies from the mother? They about 3 weeks old alrdy.

If i duwan let the mother to feed on the milk, which i dun think the mother will feed, is there any alternative that i can feed on to babies? planning to seperate the babies with the mother 2nite and put them into tofu fah box.

alternative such as: nutritious enough for syrian babies.
*
buy formulated milk to feed the babies if u dunwan mom to feed it. But it is very troublesome coz u need to feed them every few hours.. What brand bedding u use?

Copy and paste from website.

At 10 days or sooner they will begin crawling out of the nest. Their eyes and ears are not open yet, but they follow their sense of smell to find food. When they do this, you may want to begin feeding enough greens and fruits for them also, but chop them up in very small pieces to make it easier for them. If they don’t have that moist food and only eat their mother's dry food, they will dry up her milk supply, especially with a very large litter. They need the moisture from the fruits and vegetables as well as her milk. You will also want to make sure that the water bottle is low enough for them to reach it now.

Pretty soon, the babies will become rounder and fuzzier, and look more like hamsters. They can be weaned as early as 18 days, but it is better to keep them with the mother for 28-30 days. Males can be taken away a little sooner. These babies are 3 weeks old (21 days), and this is when I usually separate the males from the mother and the rest of the litter.

Just to let u know , i separated my male babies from the mother at 20 days old. Females at 23 days old. But it is winter white. I think u can separate ur babies from mom already. Have they opened their eyes yet?

Anyone bought flying saucer wheel for their hamster? Do they know how to play it? I was planning to transfer my hamsters to the aquarium so I wanted to buy an external wheel for my hamsters. I saw one which you can bend the wheel to 3 different angle. Anyone buy that before? Is it good?
*
Well i saw before in petsmore , tried to 'run' on it with my fingers but didnt like it. of coz hamster will know how to play it. But i prefer using the Rm7.50 mini wheel with stand.

QUOTE(Chisinlouz @ Oct 9 2011, 02:51 PM)
i use chipsy bedding. I put the 2 surviving babies into shoe box, A4 paper as base, 2nd layer with tissue, then only i put bedding. For the greens and fruits, i tot that hamster will having diarrhea if eat these? Because they eat dry food i think..  can apple/ Cantaloupe/ honey dew suitable for them?

my hamster open their eyes since 3th week.. now i think almost 5th week d.

I do not know what happen when i put them inside box, 1 of them seems broken his leg. Then both of them now eyes like close again, looks like bleeding. My GF said their eyes is growing so they close it back.. can someone confirm me on this eye thing?

Added on October 9, 2011, 6:06 pm4 babies, 3 of them who looks most like the father, died. 1 died just now. left the 1 tat looks healthy, can run from me at least when i wan touch them. haiz..

first time have hamster babies then like that. haiz
*
Im sorry for u loss sad.gif. In a litter , u have to know that not all 100% of the babies will survive. Just like my hamster litter ,5 out of 7 of them survived. I am no expert in syrian hamsters , but whenever i go to pet shops , the eyes of the babies will mostly be closed. Dont worry , my first time having hamster babies , the mother eat all of them doh.gif . I was 10 year old that time , so blur about hamster.

About the greens and fruits , its okay if u give in small amount , not everyday . Its like we cant eat durian everyday right xD.

I guess u can feed apple. Not sure about cantaloupe or honey dew . I fed mine with apple. U can give them some carrots too , or u can take bread , soak abit milk and give ur hammie to eat.

Perhaps ur hammie was fighting with each other. Is your box too small? I heard that syrians are solitary and prefer to go solo.

The thing is I can't find any cheap wheel. I need an external wheel. All I saw is RM15 and above. Need to search for more shop.
*
My wheel is RM7.50 in petsmore. Go find it up. Or go to some random pet shop , sometime they sell silent wheel about RM11

QUOTE(Chisinlouz @ Oct 10 2011, 10:52 PM)
considering they are still babies i think they not ready to fight yet. haha.. nvm ba they died d better than they suffer. Nice idea on the milk and bread, would give it a try because im buying some milk as well.

the box i think not too small for the 2 remaining babies until that time, now is one baby only. Shoe box for our thumb sized baby syrian i think its enough. They sleep more than awake. =)

Anyway will find some forumer to buy second hand cage for the baby =)
*
Good luck with ur babies
