I dont think so unless the petshop have experience in cutting the nails & teeth...actually you can do it yourself also but its better for a vet to do it if you dont have confidence to do it. You can ask petshops but most likely they will say no, unless its dogs then I know they got do la...

edit: monday is public holiday btw, so i think better call them on tuesday laugh.gif

right. i forgot about that!
i wld hv done it but my current hamster, she's kinda sesat. it took me like an hour to cut her nails, and that also if im lucky:
i hv to make her focus on a big pile of food by holding a container And her in one hand.
Also, she doesnt like it being forced to stay still for long and she'll nip to make sure u know.
like when she's out of the cage, on the floor..with me studying
when she gets bored playing by herself, she'll come back to me, start chasing my pen that im using, bite the notes Im holding and if that does nt work, nip hard on my fingers
i think she's like some psycho rat..

not sure about other hamsters but mine was the same, hard to keep mine still. I had to use food to cut his overgrown nails.
Usually I let him roam around the room, while playing games or using the computer but once he is fed up & will come to my legs and try to climb in my pants if I was wearing long pants doh.gif otherwise he will try to climb on my legs if I wearing short pants laugh.gif

Hey guys, just wanna share something I manage to do after my exams (April 5th) of which I PROMISED my girl before CNY lolol.

user posted image

So this is the main cage, in the picture the wood corner plank with bathing sand is newly added.
But now I've bought the Living World Snap-Inn and replaced the wood with that.

user posted image

And this is the unfinished playground I've set up for my girl.
The edible stairs I've shifted to the main cage.
For the yellow block, my girl loves to hide there and pee there also lol, so I tried putting in her main cage, she loved it.

It's been almost a month already and she still doesn't like the playground.
So I just might sell either the main cage tank, or the storage box. Might.
Do you guys think anyone would be interested in those? :/

Maybe she don't like the constant changing enviroment . try to connect both cage together with maybe a tube so she will think it as 1 cage? Great setup btw, thumbs up!

Hey guys. I just got a winter white hamster today!

I have a sand bath/litter thing as well, shaped like a box with a hole. But then I saw online that dwarf hamsters are easier to potty train if you put the litter box in the house itself. My hamster 'house' very small only, with roof, so no space for the bath box.

Is it possible I put like those soya sauce bowls into the hamster house and fill with chinchilla sand? Will it be more likely he pee there?

The problem with the bath box is that it can only fit into one corner of my cage, the other corners have things already. I don't want to put the litter box in the empty corner then suddenly he don't want to pee there. :S

refer to post#2 in the first page.

You can try but if its too tight he might not pee in there. Best thing is to upgrade your hamster cage, putting you hamster in storage box works well & those toyogo storage boxes cost extremely cheap just like what the person above did. The last thing you want your hamster to do is to pee in the same place he sleeps due to tight space.

Refer to post#2, observe where your hamster pee first then start potty training from there onwards smile.gif

Thanks! I will consider doing that. (:

Also, I was wondering, those wood chews right, I read that they can help the hamster trim their claws as well as their teeth. But then the claws on their hind paws won't get trimmed right, cos they only grab the wood treat using they front claws? That's why need a wood space kan?

yup, it will only trim their teeth. Their nails gets trimmed by daily activities such as scratching, digging etc. They will dig a lot in the sand bath container so there is where their nails gets trimmed. Some people claimed that their hamster nails didn't overgrown but mine did so had to cut it with nail clippers when he was almost 2 years old.

If you have some kind of wooden platform that would be great, he might be able to trim his nails on there...

oh and one thing, my girl loves to poop in her house too...
So is it safe if I were to put the house on the bathing sand area where she poop and store food in her little house while she pee near it outside the house?

not, you should not mix the house with bathing sand. Bathing sand is for the hamster to dig & play with the sand only. In fact for toilet, there is a special "toilet litter" that is used for absorbing pee. In fact bathing sand is only put in the cage when you want the hamster to play with the sand or cool them down...

All hamster poop in their house, oh btw they also eat their poop so dont be surprised since their poop can be undigested. If you dont stand the poop in their house then you can clean it daily like what I used to do...

Owh... but my girl loves to sleep in the sand also :/ Whether I put the house or not she hangs out there a lot.
About the poop yeah I learnt that in biology in secondary school haha, forgot what's it called.
So removing the house, can I put her favourite hideaway (pic) thingy in the sand?
