When i slightly press it. It feel like watery soft lump. My hammie doesnt show any pain or struggles when i touch his lump. It been nearly 1-2 weeks now. He been acting complete normal with his normal routine. No sign of any illness or abnormal. The lump doesnt seem to bother him at all. Been google about it & seem like a fatty lump to me that my hammie are having but i really not sure. Now i been watching his diet.. not too much treat & sunflower seed for him. His lump are under control. No sign of getting bigger nor smaller. Thank you  smile.gif

Hi there, is the lump extremely soft? My robo has that too for months I guess. I didn't bother cuz it didn't disturb him nor does it look/feel harmful. Plus, he's one obese hamster so I somehow resort to the thought of the lump being extra fats hahaha.

Just wondering how the homefriend bedding look like? Is it this 1?

And is it a wood pallet bedding?
*
This is made of recycled paper I think. newspaper and magazine. I'm currently using it. I gotta say this is amazing, no odour, it's very clean for them and usually after a few hours it's not really dusty. However, when you put in new bedding, basically the thing is a dust-bomb. sad.gif

I tried wood pellet too. It's good too, but I feel that hamsters loooove to dig, and with those pellets they cannot really dig. So yeah, i guess I'll stick with the recycled paper until a better one comes by? :/

p.s: You can check page 54, the photo I posted of my hamster, you can see the bedding how it looks like.

Thanks alot jeremy for sharing. If that case i might head to PLC to have a look when i got free time might change to this as well. Now my hammie cage doesnt have bedding at all just shredded soft tissue paper which they very like to make as a nest & slept on it. Last time use vitakraft bedding but they always kick the bedding to another side & slept on the places that doesnt have bedding. I guess the bedding too rough so they doesnt like it.

Ya btw jeremy regard your hammie lump is it covered by furs also? doesnt it get any bigger nor smaller?
Hey no problem.
As for them kicking the bedding aside, I'm not too sure. I guess they like sleeping on the plastic surface? Cuz sometimes it's cold, probably they like it tongue.gif
My 2 winters don't do that, but my 2 Robos they kick the bedding until half the cage (where the house is) is full of bedding and the other half has no bedding haha.
My hammy lump has very little fur. I think it got smaller after he was terribly attacked by my winter. I assume it's fats la because after the incident, he became a lot "slimmer", so the lump also became smaller.

I see.. hopefully my hammie lump are fatty lump also. Haha.. yea mine too. My robo hammie like to kick all the bedding to 1 side & sleep only which doesnt have bedding. As for the homefriend bedding i wonder how big is the pack is? Is it much? How long can it be use? =)
*
The pack is huge actually, and inside there's 10L of bedding. It all depends on your cage size and whether your hamster pee and poop a lot or not.
All my cages are the fish tank kind, and I'm currently using a small, medium, and large (2ft x 1ft) tank.
With the 10L I changed the small one twice, the medium one once, and the large one twice. I don't change very often too because it doesn't look dirty nor smell bad, so I'd say about 2 weeks?
Currently I think it's at RM36.90, not sure when promotion will end.

Hi Jeremy, I have brought the bedding 2day at PLC but i find it quite dusty as you said. May i know how to get rid of the dust? It quite dusty once i feel it with my hand but after put it in my hammie cage i not sure it will feel dusty to my hammie anot.. Any ideal?or its totally safe, nothing to be woli about? Thanks.
*
Yeah it's pretty dusty when you first put it in.
What you can do is shake shake the cage like ummmm ... you know like how those "pro uncles" use big wok to cook char quey tiao? When they take up the wok and start pushing it back and forth to stir the quey tiao vigorously. Did you get what I mean? Hahahaha laugh.gif
After that it'll be fine already, but of course you may have a different judgement.

I'm not sure also  cry.gif

Tomorrow edi my hammie 2yrs old birthday. We thought of happily celebrate his special day with him but suddenly happen this kind of things. Feel very sad  sad.gif  sad.gif  sad.gif

I just afraid its his new bedding. Cause i check other review it should be 100% safe for hamster. Might think maybe my hammie not used to it.
Thank you very much starrynight for helping & thank you on behalf of my hammie too. Really appreacite it.
*
Wow 2 years. My hamsters never reached that age before (due to many tragic reasons, and I also suspect it's the wood shaving bedding) sad.gif
Once I changed to the Ultra-fresh bedding, the white fluffy recycled paper, they kept scratching and stuff like that, apparently they got used to it soon after that.
So yeah, probably just wait a little while more and enjoy tomorrow's celebration first! smile.gif

babybb: I've had hamsters who "went home" in my house. What I can do is try to smile when they go because we both given each other the best during this short period. When my hamsters "go", I want them to "go" peacefully. My last hamster breathed her last at her favourite corner, although it was sad, but I smiled because I felt she went away peacefully.

Sorry for the long message haha, just sharing my experiences. smile.gif

babybb: Haha typical hamsters biting guests tongue.gif
Thanks, I named her Miaow cuz when she just opened her eyes she looked like kitten haha. She's the granddaughter of my first winter gold hamster btw.

Man, the last time I let my hammy play on the balcony, he almost jumped down. Scared the hell out of me and my friends trying to coax him down. A fried of mine had a hamster who did commit suicide from balcony.

The most I manged was to train my hamster to sit still on my shoulder as I walk around the house.
If there's no mites, I certainly hope there's no fungas....black spots. Just make sure the cage is not damp or dusty in any way.

I've taken two hamsters to vet before. Mine are syrians so they're easier to handle. I place my hammy in a shoe box (my hammy was quite active) or in a small cage (this one was in critical situation). Both did get quite stressed at first but I let them smell my hands and stroked them so they knew I was next to them.

Make sure your vet is the type that knows how to handle hamsters. Putting pressure to check them seems kinda scary as one of my hammy eyes were about to pop out from trying to get away.

A trip to the vet will probably cost around RM20 (check up only), and RM40 for med like antibiotic. I was lucky my vet was a hamster keeper before so she consulted me on the extra care.

If you're interested, the clinic I went to was in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Damansara. The vet was Melissa.
*
Oh yeah I'm actually really really careful about that. We sat pretty far back actually haha. Yeah I've heard of hamsters falling off balconies and kids explained it as a tomato falling off the balcony. :s

RM20 for check up and RM40 for antibiotic??? I went to the Pet clinic at Old Klang Road (mostly for dogs but they do accept other small animals too), check up and antibiotics costs a total of RM15. Went there a couple times.

I've decided to give her back her house but without the roof to make sure there's no damp spots in her cage.

Where can I get the Home-friends thing? I just finished my wood-shavings. Phew...finally. I made a mistake in getting scented one because it was cheap.
*
Damp spots? It's dangerous for hammies? My hammy lives in a porcelain hippo, not sure if you've seen it before. Quite popular in stores here.
The Home-friends as far as I know is sold only at Pets Lovers Centre (sunway, Ikano, Bangsar etc)

As for my past experience, the meds I got was sweet, so my hammie voluntarily drinks it haha.
Wish your hammie a fast recovery smile.gif

Hey guys, I'm kinda in an emergency now. My friend's going to Sabah for some study-related stuff so he asked me to take care of his winter pearl (permanently). The thing is, he gave it to me in a cage with a bowl full of worms which I immediately threw when I went home. My friend said the hammy's diet is the Vitakraft one, exactly what I'm giving my kids too.

I just don't know why this little guy's not eating anything! He took a few bites of a vege leaf I found in the refrigerator, tried giving him sugar water but he didn't want, and he took a few licks of yoghurt.

What can I do besides the vet visit? ><

He looks like he's about to go very soon. :/

Omg. Is he alright now? How old is he? I think might probably stress because sudden change in new environment. Try not too disturb him for awhile but at the same time more observe him. If he still doesnt want to eat anything might sick already then you might need to get the little guy to vet a.s.a.p

I wish he was alright by now.

Anyways guys need to found out normally hammie in medicine will take how long to be actually see the recover? Not sure that i over-worried or what. I have see no improvement on my hammie skin after 1st medication & today will be his 2nd medication. Yesterday seem like normal he been sctraching non stop. Am i over worried?  unsure.gif
*
He's still the same :/ Like u know when hamsters are sick and about to die, their eyes are all closed and like, sore around. I guess I shall head down to the vet now.

As for the meds, I'm not too sure because all these while I feed my hamsters med when they had cancer, those things aren't curable. :/

Just keep the cage fresh and clean first, don't mix it with other hamsters yet. Let the poor guy readjust himself to the new environment or 2-3 days. It might be afraid of your smell so be kind to him.

*
Alright, I'll let him be for a couple days to see his progress :/
Oh anyways thanks guys for the advices. smile.gif

Happy december chub chub!!! Awww... So cuteee.. Wish i can just hug him  tongue.gif How old is chub chub? Awww please dun sell/give them away.. look at their eyes.. its full of cuteness & hope  rolleyes.gif

Hmmm my hammie still on the medication & havent see any slightly improvement. The dose just enough for 2 times more i guess. What should i do? I been observe my hammie lately. I'm not sure he was grooming or scratching. He licks his paws & scratch & then lick again & scratch. What does this mean? grooming?

Sometime time he tends to lick & scratch until his furs are wet just like ppl after applying gel  sweat.gif

And also he lick his back legs & scratch his ears. I check nothing wrong with his ears. No mites no redness. Just wet wet i think it's his saliva  sweat.gif

Any ideal guys?  unsure.gif
Glad to heard that your hammie are doing fine. Beside mind to share what bedding that you have change & currently using now?
*
Haha thanks. I bought him and 2 other robos on the very first day of this year. One already died in July. :/
Yeah amazing eyes, but they're actually terrified of me. Spent months trying to "connect" with them, not much hope though.

Hmmmm I'm not too sure of the meds. Usually hammie probs like that I tend to leave it for itself to go away.
The wetness, my robos pee in the wheel then run on it, so they always have their spiky hair-do. laugh.gif

Oh so sorry for your loss. But bonding with robo take alot of patient. We are very lucky that hamtari doesnt scare of us from the 1st day we brought him. That's why i will do whatever i could just to give him a good life. Oh 1 more problem jeremy, my hammie been peeing alot after every time he drank the medicine. Is it normal? & it's like brownish in color. Will your hammie like that too after take medicine?
*
Oh well, now I'd just feed them and "play" with them hahaha. More like scare them. tongue.gif

Peeing should be fine, cuz the meds is quite sweet right? The anti-biotic I was given smells really sweet. Colour-wise, I guess that's the side effect, but I didn't notice my hamsters after they took the meds. Plus that was years ago. :/
