I seriously doubt you would want to go legal since only RM6K involved as your legal fees could start anywhere from RM3K and should you lose the case, you will also be liable to pay the bank's lawyers as well. Suggest you try negotiate with them unless you really got a sure win case etc.
*
Diana Chee's amount was less than RM2K.

tgeoklin, if if happened to you. would you want to settle for more than RM250? If it was me, yah I offer them RM250, it they do not accept, I will see them in court. It's a matter of principle and we should not to be bullied by the banks, furthermore, there have been a precedent as in Diana's case.

You are right except maybe for the first two days of the 1st weekend of the Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 where one may earn up to 20% cash back with AMBank credit cards.

I guess MasterCard is promoting the use of their cards since most of the listed banks' mastercard are not entitled to reward points except for CIMB Petronas where it gives cash back. I guess the contest is also applicable to MasterCard Debit Card.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Dec 1 2011, 05:17 PM)
Actually it depends on the actual circumstances of the case as I had mentioned over at the OCBC thread. Fyi, I had just only resolved a fraud charge to my CC with the amount close to RM40K but owing to the fact that I had informed within a reasonable time, the bank had managed to recoup the amount, thus I was absolved of all liabilities. This shows that banks can be fair too and are not unreasonable, plus they even absorbed the exchange translation loss, which was over RM1K from forex conversion, without even charging me RM250 etc.

Of course if thread starter really can afford the charges in the event she lose her case, then by all means, pursue the matter, because there is no guarantee despite what well wishers may advise  sad.gif
*
Ok, good that you mentioned above, Let's say that the bank insist you pay the so called close to RM40K, are you willing to settle for more than RM250.00? Knowing that BNM guideline only limits the cardholder liability up to RM250 for fraudulent charges which has been upheld by the court.

Having said the above, next year when we are suppose to receive sms for our transactions, I will agree we cannot blame the banks if our handphones are switch off and we failed to read the sms notifying us of a possible fraud in progress.

As I had mentioned, pls read thru the entire decision, as the RM250 is only valid provided card holder can prove the charges are "fraudulent" and as for my answer, it would depend on my legal advisor  tongue.gif

Fyi, had a friend who fought his case over RM10K and ended up losing ultimately in the Court of Appeals, finally had to settle over RM50K  sad.gif
*
Exactly, you would seek legal advise whereas you advised the TS to settle with the bank. The rest of us ask her to seek legal advise.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Dec 1 2011, 05:33 PM)
Actually, I think the whole gists of the matter is people are not treating their credit card properly ie. CC is as good as cash and if you are not responsible enough to own a card, then don't. Let's say if your cash is stolen from yr wallet, who do you ask then money back from? The police? Govt?  hmm.gif
*
You got a point there.

Bro, haha, you should have said above earlier. I agree fully to the above statement, but from what I read, the TS cannot handle the matter herself as all she does here is complain. And in view of the urgency of the matter, she wants to email to the lawyer and contact Diana Chee doh.gif No point we advise her anything else except to seek legal advise.

Recently received my MBB VI statement, somehow it was not linked to my M2U, and was surprised to note that my Treats Points earned have been inflated much more than 5X for an overseas online transaction. Anyone experience the same?

The exact mechanism, am not sure. But most probably they will put it into an installment plan of 2 years tenor.

From MBB FAQ http://www.maybank2u.com.my/WebBank/FAQ_BNM030411.pdf

You will also be given the option of settling the amount under the same repayment plan prior to the card being cancelled or restructure your card balances.

It seems many still are not aware of BNM guidelines even though it has been announced for months. So posted a short article at my wordpress blog. Click here to read Bank Negara Credit Card Guidelines

Click here to read my review on Maybank Visa Infinite and also click here to read my review on the Maybank Visa Infinite where I mentioned it is best for overseas.. Generally MBB VI is great for overseas and for local spending at places that does not accept AMEX. But I would advise you not to cancel your Maybankard 2 Cards because the AMEX is better than MBB VI for local use.

I just published My Credit Cards 100th Post - The Best Credit Cards in 2011 The contents have no new substance except me blah blah blah. I even wasted time designing the Ultimate Credit Card for the year of the dragon smile.gif

I would like to thank you guys for using up your time to read my articles at my credit cards blog and pointing out the numerous errors and typos too. Even though I may not reply your post, I do appreciate when you guys post here to mention that you found my articles interesting or informative or enjoy reading them. Come to think of it, a reader did comment my posting as a "service", which is in a way true because I started the blog 2 years ago because people keep asking the same questions here and with my articles I hope to provide the relevant answers they are looking for (but somehow always sidetrack, haha). Once again, thank you.

@Gen-X,

Found one online calculator by AKPK. Quite useful I think.
http://www.akpk.org.my/tools/calculators?calc=content_3
The normal balance outstanding, interest rate (which one can enter).
Then if Min pay, it takes how long and how much interest incurred.
Else if fix monthly repayment, how long as well as interest incurred.
And one can do it side by side which is good for comparison. smile.gif
*
Yes, the calculator is great. Thanks, I will post it at my blog to share with others. Thanks for pointing it out.

Added on December 13, 2011, 12:13 amBro Gen-X,

If my memory serves me right, you have both the HL (prev EON) VS and HL Platinum Master before the merger. Out of curiosity, what happened to the cards after the merger (since you have both)?

Have they merged both bank's card database or still two separate cards with separate limits at the moment?
*
As of date only the Ex EON Bank statement letterhead logo is changed to HLB logo, others remain the same e.g separate CS number and CL. Not sure for new customers.

Talking about PBB CL for their VI, you might be surprised that the CL may be high since one needs to deposit RM500K to enjoy their Red Carpet privileges.

Please elaborate on the names of the card issuers where their representative call you to offer you new credit cards. It is very common for them to call to offer personal loans, BT or other card promotions but not many call me to offer new card.

yeah... i was suprised too, indeed.
but thinking about it, cimb offered with min cl 70k,
and i heard maybank has cl of 50k,
so, 40k maybe for special promotion and being competitive.
or, maybe the agent was trying her luck with me to fulfill her quota hehehe...
but she did mention that, need to use >50k/year to enjoy free annual fee for VI thou, while none for WMC.
*
It is possible that the agent may be correct about the Min CL RM40K to qualify for the MBB VI because I was told may MBB VI and even their WMC cardholders have CL RM50K. And I guess there maybe the sign up rate for the MBB VI not that encouraging since one has to spend RM50K to get the annual fee waived.
