Guys,
I am having this in mind but not sure whether it will work. Anyone who has already tried this is welcome to give feedback. Basically what I am trying to do is to get my parents an iPad so that they can Facetime with my children as we are living in different states. My parents doesn't have a fixed line internet connection at home, thus the easiest internet connection for them would be Maxis 3G. But as we all know Facetime doesn't work with 3G without jailbreak and I do not intend to jailbreak. Thus what I want to do is to subscribe to Maxis 3G broadband with WIFI HSPA modem (E5832). In this case the iPad will be connecting to the 3G boradband as a wifi. Do you guys think the Facetime will work using this combination? Please help to advice.

Best option use free apps Viber and yeah by using router with Maxis broadband it will become wifi so this should work This post has been edited by munak991: Aug 15 2011, 02:00 PM

I have read it somewhere before that is works for iphone 4, so I think it should apply for ipad 2 as well. alternatively, you can try using skype for ipad 2 (with built in 3g) but don't know how much data both methods would consume. Yes..it can works.. As With this type of setup, ipad is actually connected to "WIFI" router and not 3G.. As long as IOS connected to WIFI connection, then Facetime works..Why don't you bring your ipad to Maxis center to tested it out as they provide free testing too.. Does anyone know whether a wifi broadband speed of 384kbps is enough for Facetime? Will it lag?

Facetime onli works on Wifi at the moment.......Once iOS 5 come out(probably end of the month or next), facetime will oso works on 3g connection on ur iPad itself... So as long as u are connected through wifi, no matter wat ISP(3g or fixed line) u are using, it will works...... just get a 3g router for ur 3g usb modem.....rmb to check the modem compatibility b4 buying the router.... U can try Skype oso.....i think its very easy to use.... lolz This post has been edited by vernon91: Sep 7 2011, 03:56 PM
