Considering to use the S2 as alarm clock but the screen will auto off after the screen time-out. How to make it always on while on external power like the old WM6.
*
Run the clock program. It will stay. But leaving the Amoled screen on for the extended period of time is not advisable.

Hello...,

MIUI on SGS2 (MIUI Android variant).... Here are a few screenshots after two days using it.

Beware, this ROM is not for the faint hearted people. You need to graduate from CF-Root, Lightenin, Villian, Nimpo, SpeedMod, Batista, LeoMar classes before even venturing into MIUI or CM7 or any other AOSP roms.

Thing that does not work or not available at the moment...

1. No 3G Video Call
2. Bluetooth won't save settings and pairing records
3. Not so smooth Full HD video play (This is a really high def video, something like DIVX HD standard. Others are ok)
4. Data connection has to be manually activated on every reboot
5. No Samsung craps...
6. MIUI was derived from CM7 source and kernel thus it will inherit some CM7 bugs although the kernel was tweak by bmarko himself.
7. Some hiccups on media scanning, Music player will list the songs after couple of scanning process
8. File Explorer quit of following your instructions, can't rename, can't delete etc. (happened to me after first time flashed but was ok after few reboots).
9. External SD-Card is not shown in Storage and About page (so no management function available from phone UI), it can only accessible thru File Explorer. Apps will not use External SD unless it accept hard coded path or has some kind of scanning mechanism like Music player.

Pros
1. Very themeable ROM. Can change anything on the UI, lockscreen etc.
2. Torchlight application is a nice app (never like torchlight thou) coz it can switch on by pressing the home button on the lockscreen.
3. Nice UI transition and very well design.
4. Very well design camera interface (compare with other non-stock ROM), second only to stock.
5. Got Firewall program to control blacklist, data connection etc.
6. Ability to hide programs and Guest mode (if you wanted to do some demo), but I prefer if it comes with Incognito mode.

Cons
1. Default theme may look like iphonish.
2. There is no App Drawer in the launcher. The app was cluttered on the screen (iphone style with widgets), but a trick of folder management can bring the apps back to Android way of life or install other launcher.
3. Currently it drained 3% of batt juice hourly.

Think of... Linux with KDE (MIUI) and Linux with Gnome (AOSP), then you can get the basic idea on it.

thumbup.gif Nice....

Just using it after a long held back since SGS1 coz of the iphonish look and lack of theme. The newer one has changed much on graphics department. Something refreshing from the stock... wink.gif although some features are unavailable (minor to me).

well said, LOL. the battery drain scared me. i tried CM7 before, but for only one day, it feels somehow laggy especially in the transtition. but i did like the modified ADW launcher catalog function. You using miui right now? not going to change others?

I'm going to stick with it a while longer until I find something that really pulling my hair off. biggrin.gif

luckily villain rom just took like 4-5min....haha...but now how 2 remove d yellow triangle huh? flash with wat kernel?
*
If you wanted to move to AOSP kind of ROMs from stock based , you need to do one extra task before flashing in CWM. You need to format /system under mount menu. Likewise if you wanted to return to stock from AOSP.

if u dun mind, can u teach me how to format under mount menu? thanks
*
Under CWM menu there is Wipe Data.... , Wipe Cache..... etc. On the same menu you'll see "Mount...." select it and find "Format /system" and execute it.

Beware, do not format the EFS. This one sure ICU. After formatted the system, you have to flash ROM straight away like usual coz you phone will not boot into Android OS (Only Kernel left) after that.

Me too, I don't how I did it. One time, my whole internal SD "destroyed", undetectable in my Galaxy Tab. The tab still bootup well but the whole internal SD cannot be detected at all. Anyway, not a major issue as I immediately reflash it back to stock, select PIT and repartition.  Such " horror" stories common among us regular flashers; the beautiful thing is we learn from these experiences. It is not a matter of life and death; important thing is stay calm and go back to square one, start again
*
Yup, lesson learnt.... the most important thing is don't panic. Flashed back stock ROM and format from its recovery menu, even CWM cannot recover the internal SD.

There is saying... "Android is not free anymore". On fundamental, yes it is free and community driven but on final product it has to pay some royalties like HTC with Microsoft and soon Samsung with Microsoft (if Microsoft win the case).

Yesterday, Google acquired Motorola Mobility.

Today we have this....

Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen, the father of CyanogenMod, has posted an interesting update to his professional life on his Facebook page. Steve, who has founded the largest family of custom Android ROMs on the planet, has just joined Samsung Mobile to presumably work on Android-related goodies for one of world's largest electronics manufacturers.

Is it for real? Samsung has not confirmed it right? Just Steve himself saying it...

Anyway, I hope this is true and we will be having AWESOME Rom in the near future...yoohoo...  rclxms.gif  flex.gif  thumbup.gif
AND we will have Steve Kondik versus Steve Job...and the winner is............

Hopefully it is not a joke. Looking forward on how they gonna shape the ROM. Maybe like Redhat? One official (Redhat Enterprise) and another version from community with bleeding edge features (Fedora)

Several posts back, I noted a lively discussion on mobile phones type used. Well, I just cannot resist and later, perhaps a few days time,  I will post a long list of all the mobile phones I have used since 1990

My first "Mobile" was Telekom Atur 450. Then being a Deputy General Manager of a PLC company, I was the only manager given a RM 11,000 mobile phone which was fitted onto my company's car and which can also be taken out and carry like a toolbox !!! The company at that time felt I needed to be in contact at all time as I was often on the road from JB to KL, Perak and up to Jitra Kedah

Than, The first cellular network was introduced by Telekom Malaysia in 1985. Theirs was named ATUR 450 – based on the NMT 450 i.e. Nordic Mobile Telephony at 450 MHz, using the prefix 011.

See the attached pic to see this monster size "Mobile " phone

[attachmentid=2388937]
*
SMS is nowhere to be seen during that time smile.gif , but Atur coverage is top notch.... that is why it looks like military communication backpack. I wonder what kind of battery supplied to the unit?
