i tried whatsapp and viber... i can tell you viber sucks... always disconnected, and sucks my battery like hell...
whatsapp is better... my fren in SG also have disconnected problem...

well frankly speaking... for RM8/year i don think it is too expensive... you can save countless of $$$ if you always have communication with overseas fren...

been using both whatsapps and viber. i uninstalled skype just before they implemented the video calls for sgs2. reason for uninstalling skype was coz it was running in the background even though i did not start the apps. after killing the background process, it would come back again. it seems to be a 'bug' as there was a thread in the skype support forum on this...

between viber and whatsapp...

i have more friends on whatsapp. i think mainly coz many dun realise its a paid apps (both on android and ios). personally, i prefer...

viber. why? i have tested on my phone and no battery drain issue. the data collection of my phone discharging rate when the phone was idle was collected over a few weeks. if anything, skype was more a concern than viber and whatsapp.

for me... viber is better coz its FREE. besides that, there's also voice call. but more importantly why its in my good books is coz they have 'official support' in LYN forum! yes, official support here... not really support but we can feedback on what our issues are and they do look into it.

from that thread in LYN forum, i also understand viber for BB is coming really soon. so it will be a true cross platform by then. there's also plan to release video/ photo sharing (similar to whatsapp). video calls is also in the works.

i like the voice call function (and looking forward to the video calls) as i can call my overseas friends for free. i have tested with my relatives in HK. quality is about the same as when we use discount call services which is actually quite decent. of course at times, i do get some interference... i just end and call again. i think its more to do with my connection to the internet (was trying out on 512k streamyx on my end).

i have also tried calls to friends while they were on the road and i was on 512k streamyx... also good. just like normal calls.

no, i dun work for viber... i dun get paid by them. but i just think they give me better value -- everything is FREE. i know... its only about usd2/ year for whatsapp (yes, for android, its an annual charge. for ios, its a one-time charge). but why pay when i can get it free... and with voice... and eventually video calls... free as well?

i din bother to try others coz look... i wanna simplify my life... not have 10 apps to connect to people. i want to have as few as possible. skype would have been my fav since i have used them when they first started -- but... they are just too slow to dev for android... and the thing that killed it for me is that the version i installed was behaving like malware -- restarting itself after i killed it.

i don know... i don have skype now, but my viber is draining my battery... my battery do not last when i on my viber...

BTW i use a lot of normal calls... normally with whatsapp last time, my battery will be around 50% around 1pm... but on Viber it consume about 10% more battery... which makes my battery did not survive till 6pm...

on the go, i sync my mails hourly and uses data quite a lot... if on 3G the battery will not even last 10 hours... it is like a dream for me...

with viber on it is like 7 hours with 20% left... which surprise when during my 2 days of usage... so now i always exit viber everytime i sent a msg...

sync mail... ya, i forgot to mention that is also running in my background... lol...

but for your issue... you quite sure its viber? i guess scientific way to know for sure is do a factory reset, install whatsapp... monitor for 2-3 days... then factory reset, install viber, monitor 2-3 days... but ya, its too troublesome.

anyway, just sharing since i'm more into viber... from what i understand, new version does not consume any battery after you exit.

im not using viber till it has A2SD... i realise sometimes viber is slow too... i know RM8 is alright... but free ones save even more.... and i dont understand why should i pay when i can get free ones? there are better apps than whatsapp... just you(and people) haven try it yet... i do not compare viber to whatsapp cause viber can call... which ables me to call my cousins and sister at singapore without using money... whatsapp can only message so i only compare them to those apps that allow only messaging...

it's not because people dont realise it is going to be paid after a year... is because whatsapp has been overrated for some reason and everyone with a smartphone seems to wanna try it.. and for iPhone users... they have their AHEM version... whereas android has none... same goes to blackberry.. of course iPhone users stick to whatsapp.... they just simply lazy to change or try new one... i can tell i have used apps better than whatsapp.. faster.. and i mean alot faster... and it's introduced in this thread too....

and NO viber does not drain my battery life at all... it drains as much as whatsapp and live profile.. unless you call.. and i dont even use the EXIT...
