I would like to ask the seniors and owners here, where do you source Ford spar parts? Do you have any specific spare parts shop?

thanks

Gearbox oil is expensive and u need 7 liters of it. its around RM110 per liter, gearbox filter is RM220 each.

Interval for change is 60K but if possible always change it earlier. Some change the gearbox oil at 30k. the filter can chg it every 60k. Need to take good care of the gearbox as it is very very costly to replace or repair.

Eng oil needs 5 liter.

Parts can be pricier than jap car. Well its still a conti car.

mondeo mk5

-quiter than previous model (better NVH), their seat body hugging)
-more toward driving pleasure than driver's car (tune more comfort)
-same engine but the gearbox on safe side (less maintence/durable but less fun)
-full package of pasive and active safety

the first major problem with high tech stuff in malaysia is maintenance as malaysians are typically stubborn and cheapskate yet want the latest tech to show off, when CVT's first launch sales was good people show off the great fuel economy of the CVT's from Honda, then when it was time for service they found out that CVT needed special gearbox oil at honda service centers so instead of just following spec many of these stingy & stubborn owners that think they know better and think honda trying to cheat them bring the cars out to XYZ workshop and put normal gearbox oil into the CVT gearboxes.....needless to say the vast majority of the gearbox failures and warranty not claimable are by these lot of people.

generally if it is well maintained the chances of failure is reduced.

secondly driving behavior although tested to withstand most people's driving behavior, if it is well maintained it should still be okay, drive like an idiot and skip maintenance is a recipe for disaster.

thirdly, no matter how good production QC is nowadays there is still the 1% chance of getting a lemon.

here is a quote from the link below:
CODE
It’s been a few years since I’ve driven anything with Ford’s PowerShift dual clutch transmission, which launched in 2010 with more problems than an algebra book, some of which were real, while others were imagined by customers.

Ford made the mistake of calling the PowerShift an automatic, without explaining to consumers that the transmission was really a manual transmission that is shifted automatically. That blunder brought with it a customer expectation that the PowerShift would change gears just as smoothly and behave exactly the same as a regular hydraulic automatic transmission.

So, when the PowerShift didn’t behave that way, Ford’s complaint lines lit up and its quality scores took a big hit. There were a few initial technical problems that Ford engineers quickly addressed with a combination of redesigned parts and software changes.

dual clutch say it all, it will never behave like a conventional auto and judder at low speed is expected

i usually tell ppl to look for cvt if smooth trans they needed & stay away from ford's dual clutch

worst its a dry clutch, mechanical noises r unbearable sometimes and infamous overheat & horse ride experience which not treated as abnormal by manual drivers

buy merc or vw or expensive dual clutch they perform better

it is the same.

Ford sources their DCT from Getrag.
Getrag doesn't make shitty gearboxes.

we have come to a point in our car technology that most of the failures are due to poor maintenance than design, getting a lemon from production is less than a 1% chance, and finally the chance that a poor design actually makes it into production is also very rare nowadays.

so we can rest assured major brands give good products

There are two different dual clutch technologies/types. Operational principles are similar. One most are familiar with are the dry clutch DCT, in Ford terminology, Power shift. The lesser known ones are the wet clutch version, found in the Focus TDCi, Mondeo Ecoboost and S-Max.

Dry clutch is more efficient than wet clutch as the clutch plate is not immersed in DCT fluid. This also means it is lighter. Note that dry clutch DCT uses 1.5L of fluid, vs wet clutch DCT's 6.25L.

Dry clutch DCT problems usually arise from heat. Heat will increase the risk of damage to the TCU. Seal failure may also allow the fluid to contaminate the clutch, rendering it slippery. BTW, drive the car hard to keep the clutch plates clean occasionally. Take it out for a long drive on the highway, use the manual shift button .

Wet clutch, yet to hear of any real problems. Spoilt, yes, by a tow truck operator dragging the car with front wheels on the ground....

For reference, Ford PowerShot DCT can handle up to 250Nm. Wet clutch can handle 450Nm.

When it works well, both types are very good. It's whether one knows how to optimise it's use.

If you want to join Ford Owners Club Malaysia on Facebook, apply and send a message to one of the admins. We need to know what Ford model you have.

>> Trio mantap

Hello everyone. I just registered here so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. But anyway,

Couple of days ago my car ( ford fiesta 2012) broke down after giving me this error ( oil pressure low stop safely) and the engine wouldn't start. Next day it started and I took the car to trio mantap workshop located at No. 3 jalan Kencana 18.

They checked my car vaguely and without any through inspection they said they need to dismantle the engine for further inspections and charged me Rm 700. They also said that there is a good chance that I need to change the whole engine which will cost me about 25k.

It was very suspicious that they started to throw these numbers without even checking my car properly.

My question is that can I trust them? Or is there any other place that I should take my car to? Any suggestion would help.

Thanks

Go take your car to Capital Intertrade at damansara or SDAC PJ. Trio mantap is the least trusted sc.

i banned trio mantap even during my free service. their service is quite shoddy and they seem to fail to give reasonable explanation to any fault or issues that they diagnosed. maybe they think that their customer are not at all familiar with mechanical stuff...

anyway, for any car issue, i suggest to go back to SDAC where they have better expertise.
