if i'm not mistaken, hippo amp doesn't have volume control right? then don't bother using LOD. because it completely bypass the player's amp, which means volume can't be control by the player. (using ipod > LOD > fiio e11, the e11 acts as the volume control, even when my ipod volume is at 0)

And yes, if you use LOD, means use the line out, which have higher output than normal headphone jack. It will bypass the internal volume. If you connect LOD straight to you headphone, it will damage your hearing and your headphone.
If you using Fiio E3, don't use with LOD.
