yeah i guess it depends really.

i have used their sofa bed, cupboard, wardrobe, desk and chair before. they seem durable but recently i bought some steel bars for kitchen use, it was broken when i brought home.

more importantly is to ask the ikea guys to assemble the big furnitures and not do it yourself unless if you consider yourself a not too bad handyman.

i think furniture from ikea is kinda expensive; can get better and more affordable, but less "design" feel from local furniture shops

The Billy design very longtime already. Even my Billycase wood color absolute. No more produce. Last time I left a Billy cd rack. Go back buy but no more produce that color. Ask them find the whole world ikea shop for me. Lucky spore ikea have stock. Wait 2week and go collect. sweat.gif

From my experience, those IKEA furniture with large surface (table, big wardrobe, tv cabinet) won't last long. I had these items which wrap after 6months of usage. Billy book case is ok as i had few that still looking good. So choose wisely and pay a bit more for more solid wood.

I have this small laptop table also have this warp problem which cause by the water that I didn't wipe out. It absorb below the laminate layer. I guess the surface don't have a waterproof layer.

Cheap but crap quality.

the only thing i don't like about billy cupboard is that is that it is not wide enough to fit a file.

IKEA typically have a good product range and a cheap product range. The cheap items are crowd puller and are typically crap fiberboard products.

The better ones do last but for those prices, one might pay a bit more and have custom built/fitted stuff (like wardrobe/kitchens).

There're pros and cons. I like Ikea coz I can get a lot of visual ideas there and I find a lot of things reasonably priced compared to furniture shops elsewhere. It's more accessible too. But on the other hand, I find that some(not sure if it's everything) things there are of poor quality or gone through bad QC. I've been buying their tea lights for years and the price keeps increasing but quality worse. Last time the bottom of the wick is stuck to a piece of small round metal but these last few packs I bought don't have those metals causing the wick to sink and out of place after being lit for some time. I threw away a lot of tea lights that way. Also, I bought a table few months ago and when I assemble it, one leg didn't fit at all. So had to bring it back and change. The guy working there told me Ikea's quality nowadays very 'teruk'. I bought a bookshelf many years ago. That one is still in excellent condition.

Still for me, it is the most accessible(everything under one roof) among all furniture stores. Yesterday went to Viva Homes...just couldn't find anything appealing there. My 2 cents la...

most of my house accessories such as book shelves (use as wall-table), mirrors, kitchen tools are from IKEA. they are really cheap and value for money.

IMO, the furniture are too costly for me since I spend most of the time outside (on the road) rather than staying inside the house.

My house uses a full range of Ikea products like bed, wardrobe, shelf, cabinets etc. Have used it for around 8 years. No problem with it at all. One of the tip to using Ikea bulky items is to make sure that all the joining screws is turned tightly and securely. But I've noticed Ikea prices 8 years ago is more affordable than now.
