Hi Guys

I am from east Malaysia. Currently, I am only using Maybankard 2 platinum (Master/Amex) and I found out that beside Amex done a good deal on petrol, Watson, guardian and hotels, It is very hard for me to fully utilize the card's benefits(in term of cash back and points) at my area here. I ever think of to get OCBC titanium as it was highly recommended throughout the forum but then after gone through the merchants lists, 85-90% of the merchant are not applicable at my area as well.

I would like to have some recommendation on the 2nd CC that I am going to apply. All your comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi, the list is not exhaustive. For your info, 5% is given for groceries, utilities, dining and petrols transactions.

Hi guys,

Need advice from the experts as to which credit card to apply for. Basically, I'm into my first month of a new job. Will I qualify to apply for a credit card now? Have worked for 2 years but took 1 month break prior to new job. Heard there must be 3 months continuous employment?

1. Annual Income: Approx RM55k

2. Annual Fee: Preferably none or minimal

3. Card required for:

a) Business trips overseas (Paying for hotel, food, transport, flight tickets) - Need one with higher credit limit - At least 5k a month?
b) Petrol

4. Existing credit cards if any:
None. I have a savings account with Maybank.
Thanks a lot.
*
I would suggest maybank 2 card. Its Maybank Visa/Master card gives good foreign exchange rate for your overseas trip, while you get 5% rebate (on weekends) + 5 points using its Amex for all types of payment including petrols (not accepted by majority petronas, majority). No annual fee.

Refer here for Maybankard 2 Gold and Platinum Cards thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2049548

Thanks for the detailed info. Well I meant best if there's annual fee waiver, sorry for the confusion. I would like to ask, do I choose either Visa or Mastercard with AMEX for Maybankard 2 card or do they instantly issue MC with AMEX? Another thing, what is the difference between Maybankard Gold and Platinum?
*
For MBB2 cards, there is no annual fee. For OCBC Ti, it is waived with 12x swipes.

For MBB2 cards, they issue MC with AMEX by default nowadays. Just specify clearly in your application form whether you want MC or VISA.

Apart from higher income requirement, Platinum gives you extra benefits like travel insurance and purchase protection.

1. Annual Income: About RM60K
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: No
3. Card required for: Petrol, Dining, Cash Back/Rebate, Hotels, Overseas Transactions
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil.
5. Looking at CC from: Any bank with large network of branches

6. Others: I don't have a credit card at the moment. I'm looking to have one just in case especially for use during travel for work purposes - to local and international destinations. I travel for work about 5-10 times a year. Other than that the card will just be used for occasional expenses. Mostly will be used for petrol and dining.

Monthly expenses will almost always be less than RM1k

Please advise ! Thank you  smile.gif

May I suggest you to look at Maybankard 2 cards

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Any bank
6. Others: Nothing specific
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: less than 1k

Option 1 - Maybankard 2 Gold AMEX + Visa/mastercard
No annual fee, 5% weekend rebate (cap RM50 monthly) + 5x TP using AMEX. Only disadvantage is AMEX is not widely accepted. Refer here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2035710
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2248196

Option 2 - OCBC Ti mastercard
No annual fee with 12x swipe, 5% everyday rebate for groceries, petrols, dinings and utilities (cap RM50 monthly). No points. Refer here:

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Doesn't matter.
3. Card required for: Groceries and Bills
4. Existing credit cards if any: Hong Leong Classic Visa and HSBC Amanah Visa (looking to cancel either one unless got reason not to)
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Any bank
6. Others: Nothing specific
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: around 1k to 2k

Also one side question: How do you get credit limit increment? It's kind of sad that my credit limit is still the same since I first got the card. That time I just started working so credit limit quite low.
*
Definitely OCBC Ti, 5% cashback for grocery, utilities, dining and petrol (monthly cap RM50). Free annual fee with 12x swipes.

To get limit increment, you need to put in a request to the respective bank. Often you will be requested to submit your income documents.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'm currently reading about Maybankard 2 cards, looks interesting but I'm not sure I really need 2 cards.

Any other similar cards that I can look into ?
Thanks  smile.gif
*
The maybankard 2 card is actually a combo, whereby you only have to pay one GST (RM50) for two cards as a principal holder, if that is your concern. Looking at the benefits, most of us here mainly use the AMEX, while its visa/master card only serves as a spare smile.gif

Added on April 1, 2012, 1:14 pmAlso, you stated that you travel quite often, thus the visa/mastercard may come handy due to its attractive lower conversion rate.

Noticed following (fr generationsxyz site):
- OCBC Titanium does not offer free airport lounge access
You will enjoy free access and your travel companion only has to pay half the price to access the Plaza Premium Lounge at KLIA, when you charge RM3000 and above on air tickets or travel packages to your OCBC Titanium MasterCard. Be pampered on-the-go with five star food and beverages, movies and many more. To access the KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge, call OCBC Contact Centre 1300 88 5000 to make reservation.

1. 30 to 60k

2. No (or maybe dont mind much?)

3. Petrol and rebates

4. No credit cards currently

5. Not looking at any CC's and not familiar

What CC and from which bank do u guys recommend ? Priority on petrol and some rebates that i can frequently take advantage of such as groceries, some shopping perhaps.

Thx in advance!
*
Your income range is rather large. But if you meet the requirement for OCBC Ti, you may want to look into its benefits. 5% for all petrol brands, groceries, dining and utilities cap at RM50 per statement month. Other transactions gives 1%. Annual fee is waived for 12 swipes.

Hi all,

Which credit card offers the best cash rebates without lengthy terms and conditions in order to get the rebates? From my survey it looks like OCBC Titanium Mastercard:

http://ocbccards.com.my/Titanium_Master_Card.aspx

Is there a better one?

Thanks in advance.
*
Spot on but bear in mind the 5% rebate is only applicable for dining, groceries, utilities and petrols, capped at RM50 per statement month.

Looking at your requirements, OCBC Ti is best for you. You already zero-ed in the target anyway tongue.gif Annual fee is waived upon 12x swipes.

Hi, you could consider the combination of Maybank 2 cards + OCBC Titanium.

The MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5X TP everyday and 5% cashback on weekends. Annual fee is waived.

The OCBC Ti gives you 5% cashback for petrol, dining, groceries and utilities. 1% for others. Annual fee is waived for 12x swipes. RM50 cashback after RM10000 spend.

Thanks again Gen-X, just to confirm the annual fees that we mentioned is same as the government service tax for credit card?
*
No, different thing.
RM50 GST is charged by the government, all cards.
Annual Fee is charged by the bank, some is free of life, some is waived upon certain condition, etc.

I see, so the government service tax will not absorb by bank based on certain condition?

Added on July 24, 2012, 10:29 pmanother dumb question, if i apply supplementary card for my wife, it will be another government service tax impose ?

the service tax is based on number of card? if myself and wife both have a card, means will charge RM100 as total?
*
The GST will never be absorbed by banks. However, some may have some points redemption program, or offer RM50 cashback (not waived) subject to certain condition like spending etc.

Supp cards will be charged RM25 GST per card. Maybank 2 cards will be charged RM25+RM25 since it comes with 2 cards.
