That 42k is annual income or monthly income? As per the template is annual income... blink.gif

Insurance agents do collect cash from their clients whom are too lazy to go pay their insurance premiums themselves. Actually this is very dangerous, i.e. giving cash to your insurance agent, what if he does not pay for you?

QUOTE(sweetmint @ Nov 26 2012, 06:05 PM)
Hi, would appreciate your advice on the below:

1. Annual Income: RM24K to RM30K
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must
3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate Only
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil.
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Nil
6. Others: Please be specific. Example: Option 1: I want cash back / Option 2: Can pay by M2U online savings account
7. Fixed expenses per month with the card: RM300 petrol
8. Non-fixed expenses but recurring in RM: RM200 pay pal every 2 months
*
Since petrol is your main expenses, I guess you should look into the UOB One Card Visa and earn 5% cash back. With RM300 petrol a month, you can earn cash back of RM180 per year. And if you can go pump at BHP, you will get more smile.gif

As for paypal, with RM200, assuming a credit card gives you 1% cash back, that's only RM2 every 2 months.

6. Others: Easy and convenient in paying the debts

7. Fixed expenses per month with the card: RM200-RM300 petrol, RM1xx Telco, RM1xx Utilities

8. Non-fixed expenses but recurring in RM: Nil

For your case, I guess the UOB One Card is good for now. Pleas refer my reply above to sweetmint. Besides the 5% cash back for petrol, you'll get 2% cash back for Telco bills with the UOB One Card and some cash back at GSC too.

I heard bout the promo on Standard Chartered with free Smart Tag.
Please provide some advice on it. Is it worth to take? smile.gif

FREE gift, sure lah good smile.gif Got cash back RM150 somemore. And best of all, if not mistaken, for limited time you get 15% cash back for petrol. But please read the terms and conditions.

You may want to read my previous article on Standard Chartered Bank Business gold and Platinum Credit Card Review to get some ideas on the T&C. Please note this article was published months ago where the promotion was different then.

For installment plans, I guess go with Maybank credit cards as many merchant do offer 0% installment plans for MBB cards.

So I would recommend Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX card will earn you 5X Treats Points everyday PLUS EXTRA 5% cash back on weekends.

Since you failed to give your spending pattern, can't really recommend you a card. Generally:

For Petrol, go for UOB One Card Classic - Annual Income RM24K.

For movies - check out my article on Best Credit Cards for Movie Tickets.

Okay I just need info which credit card can give me free passes to KLIA/LCCT lounge cos I'm always travelling. I've heard SCB will cease to give free passes to platinum card holders.

Annual income: 60k+
Existing cards: Maybankard 2 platinum (Amex and Mastercard)
*
RM60K for both KLIA and LCCT - Try Citibank PremierMiles Visa Signature - you get 2 free passes to LCCT with the Priority Pass Membership card.

Click here to read my article on FREE access to LCCT and KLIA.. You can consider AMEX Kris Flyer too OR American Express Platinum Credit Card.

Hi Gen-X,

I'm wondering if OCBC Titanium Mastercard is better that MBB2 Cards, since I get 1% cashback for other purchases which covers the 1% overseas transaction fee. Besides, I can also get cashback for movies/dining/petrol.

Please advise.

Thanks!
*
OCBC is a fantastic card where AMEX is not accepted and like you said, it gives you 5% cash back for Dining and Petrol Everyday smile.gif

Having said that, and I believe many will agree- get both OCBC Titanium MasterCard and Maybankard 2 Cards and with propoer planning, you will maximize the returns you can get from credit cards.

i heard hong leong bank essential card is 2% fee, 10.8% p.a interest calculated daily....

Click here and read my article - Hong Leong Bnak Credit Cards, What Are They Good For?

But seriously, if you going to withdraw cash with credit card - make sure you got money to pay back because if you don't repay in full within the time frame you sign up for, the interest rate will be sky high and you'll be deeper in the shit hole in no time.

Cap is RM50 per month.

Bro, she spending up to RM20K per month, I think she needs more than just OCBC Titanium MasterCard. But then again with annual income of RM36K, besides the OCBC and MBB 2 Cards, the only card I can think that may benefit her is the HLB Essential with 1% unlimited cash back.

thank for the suggestion. But i would like to ask if the annual is 48k(put in some sie income statement), will i have more choice than hLB essential? Any special condition for the 1% unlimited cash back? my spending will be paying utilities bill online (tnb, astro, syabas, telco,tm & etc)

thanks in advance
*
For Astro (Just call them) and Telcos (walk in and register for autobilling for DiGi, Maxis and Celcom), they do accept AMEX so your MBB 2 AMEX with 5X TP when redeeming for cash vouchers should be better than HLB Essential 1% cash back.

For TNB, you can use your MBB 2 AMEX via Express Autopay but they limit it to RM3K per month only.

If your Syabas bill is not much, i.e. less than RM1K, OCBC Titanium MasterCard is good with 5% cash back.

Also click on below link to learn how you can pay bills using your AMEX card with M2U:

Maybankard 2 AMEX for Paying Bills Online with M2U and for TNB with Express Autopay. You can use your MBB 2 AMEX to pay for Telelkom and Unifi bills smile.gif

What is the amount for the TNB Bill? Based on annual income of RM50K or less, I still think HLB Essential the only alternative. Having said that, go to MBB2 Thread, do a search on TNB, someone mentioned Shah Alam TNB accept AMEX.

IF you can get Alliance Bank Privilege Banking Status, their Premier debit card can earn you 2% cash back for up to RM9K/month.

Other alternative to earn extra pocket money, use HLB Essential and then go with 0% Balance Transfer Plans tongue.gif

If your petrol usage is more than RM150, worth to consider UOB One Card. If your income is close to RM30K, go try apply Maybankard 2 Cards where many merchants accept MBB CC for installment Plans.

And before you go sign up for installment plans, please click here and read my article titled 0% Installment Plan IS A Trap.

And since you are new to credit cards, I suggest you take my FREE Tutorial on Credit Cards and IF you do not have the cash in hand or savings, please don't use credit cards!!!

For groceries and petrol, I can only think of UOB One Card for your case. Other entry level credit cards would not earn you cash back as good as UOB One Card for your requirements.

my monthly expenses as following

- TNB, Unifi, Phone bill, Astro around RM400-500
- Groceries (Jusco & Tesco) around RM500-1000
- Petrol around RM200
- others example dining, insurances, cake material, car services around RM500-RM800

for billing i will use OCBC TI
groceries & petrol if weekend will use MBB2, else will use OCBC TI, except Jusco will use MBB2
i got 2 more cards are HLB Ess & SCB Biz Plat for other expenses
now plan to cut either HLB or SCB, keep which 1 is better?

actually got 2 more cards which is CTB CBP & UOB One, plan to cut them next year.
*
SCB, I guess you have not been reading SCB Thread. Click here to read my article Standard Chartered Banks Credit Card Points Redemption Is Simply Ridiculous.. The main reason why those who wanted to cancel SCB cards decided against it is because they accepted SCB's "bribe" (cash back - more than enough to cover GST waiver) in exchanging to keep the card laugh.gif

I guess for you case, your concern is how to maximize the return from the RM500-800 where AMEX not accepted. Well besides HLB Essential base on this spending amount, the only other card I can think of is Mach credit card by Hong Leong Bank where they give you 5% cash back for dining. But since you are currently an existing customer of HLB, you may not be entitled to the first year annual fee waiver.

I shall assume you only pump at Petronas so you can consider Maybank Petronas Visa where you earn 5X Treats Points everyday and 8X TP on Saturday and Sunday. But until 28th Feb, you can earn 5X TP too everyday for any type of transaction. Maybankard is accpeted at many places for installment plans.

Having said the above, you should consider Maybankard 2 Cards as now AMEX is supposed to be accepted at Petronas. The MBB 2 AMEX is excellent if you can wait and pump petrol on Saturday and Sunday because not only will you earn 5X TP but EXTRA 5% cash back thumbup.gif

What you guys think? I dont know whether banks will consider my allowance or just look at my basic?
*
If you are paying income tax on the RM60K income, then your annual income should be RM60K/yr. And if you have yet to submit Borang BE with RM60K/yr income, go ask the bank what documents you need.

So the cards to get are:

1. Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday PLUS EXTRA 5% on Saturday and Sunday but this cash back is capped at RM50/month.

2. OCBC Titanium MasterCard where you earn 5% cash back for Petrol, Dining, Groceries, Telco bills and Utility bills BUT the cash back is capped at RM50/month. Say you charge RM1K petrol to the OCBC Titanium MasterCard, you will get RM50 cash back per month. But if you charge RM900 petrol and RM500 dining to the OCBC TMC, you still only get RM50/month.

3. The UOB One Card may be good for you since you do pump a lot of petrol, however there is a cap on Petrol too. But with this card, it will free the OCBC TMC from petrol and you can use it for dining and earn 5% cash back and other places where AMEX is not accepted and earn 1% cash back.

So with the above cards and if you spend RM2K and above, you can earn up to RM100 per month (or even more) with proper planning plus 5X Treats Points with the Maybankard 2 Cards.

And since you are new to credit card, please be warned that you need to have discipline in using it or else you will end up with a big headache if you don't have the cash in hand to settle the Outstanding Balance monthly. Please do not think it may not happen to you because with your income and your spending pattern (even if you are being reimbursed for your expenses), it looks scary.

Better than Citibank Cash Back Platinum? Well, click here to my article on MACH by HLB where I have a table comparing OCBC Titanium MasterCard versus Maybankard 2 Cards American Express versus UOB One Card versus Citibank Cash Back Platinum.

And for your spending which is just below RM1K/month, the OCBC Titanium MasterCard is just perfect as it gives you 5% cash back for Petrol, Phone Bills and Dining. For shopiing it gives you 1% cash back versus your Citibank Cash Back 0.3%.

Bros and Sis, I am closing this thread on 1st January 2013.

Most of the questions lately are too general and can be posted at General Thread or not following template required.

Moreover, most of the questions are repetitive and one can find the answer by reading the last few pages. As such, I will pass the ball to those of you who wish to recommend a credit card(s) to others by starting a new thread (you can start one immediately and I will close this thread).

hi gen-x sifu, would like some guide too about UOB One Card, OCBC Titanium MasterCard and Citibank Platinium cash back,

1. Annual Income: RM50k
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: yes for sure?
3. Card required for: Cash back for petrol (Shell/Petronas), TnGo, some random shopping
4. Existing credit cards if any: Haven't applied yet tongue.gif
5. Looking at CC from:Citibank Platinium cash back (tell me difference between UOB One Card, OCBC Titanium MasterCard too)
6. Others: Prefer cash back only, does citibank cash back means no more reward points? Prefer to pay by m2u online too.
thanks!  notworthy.gif

Basically UOB One Card and Citibank Cash Back Platinum almost the same as both earns you 5% cash back for petrol and for general transactions 0.3%. And both these cards have a monthly cap on petrol too. But the Citibank CB only credit the cash back earned once you reach RM50 whereas UOB credit the cash back monthly into the account.

As for OCBC TMC,it beats both the cards mentioned above because you earn 5% cash back for Petrol, Dining, Utility Bills and Groceries.

Click here to my article on MACH by HLB where I have prepared a table comparing various cash back cards, i.e. Maybankard 2 Cards vs OCBC Titanium MasterCard vs MACH by HLB vs UOB One Card vs Citibank Cash Back Platinum. Please note I am not recommending to your the HLB but asking you to refer to the comparison table.

So for your case and annual income, just go get Maybankard 2 Cards and OCBC Titanium MasterCard as recommended by yours truly in Post#1.

and yes, Citibank Cash Back Platinum does not earn you any reward points. There is an advantage in having a Citibank credit card in 2012 where we get FREE movie ticket at TGV but I got no idea if this promo will be extended. Click here to read my article The Best Credit Cards for Movie Tickets 2012.

Since your monthly expenses just above RM1K, and if you like to keep Citibank CB, get either OCBC Titanium MasterCard or Maybankard 2 Cards.

However, if you have not been benefiting from Citibank CB from their promos, then cancel it and get both OCBC TMC nd MBB 2 Cards. Click on above the MACH link I gave above and check out the comparison table and see which card earns your more based on your spending pattern.

Hi guys. I need some guidance here.

1. Annual Income: RM50k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferably yes

3. Card required for: Cash back on mostly petrol (Petronas), TnGo, easy-installment-shopping

4. Existing credit cards if any: No Malaysian CC yet

5. Looking at CC from: Islamic CC only

6. Others: I'm looking at the maximum limit as well. Any recommendation on banks that give out most limit?
I might be wrong but I think there aren't much choices when it comes to islamic CC. Hoping for some input here, thanks a lot.

Bro, for both Petronas and installment plan with Islamic credit card, I suggest you check out Maybank Petronas Visa credit card.
