hi bro,

i'm getting my first CC but not sure which bank to go for

1. Annual Income: RM 45k - 50k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: if possible

3. Card required for: Petrol, Phone Billing, Insurance Repayment, and monthly repayment for electronics gadget.

4. Existing credit cards if any: none

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Citibank / CIMB

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: About RM 600 - 700..
*
With RM600-RM700 spending a month, what ever points you earn from Citi (exclude Ctit Cash Back Plat) or CIMB won't even be enough to offset the RM50 GST.

The best card for you is Maybankard 2 Cards because you are only paying a single GST for 2 credit cards.

The Maybankard 2 Amex can earn 5X TP and 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays for your petrol and 5X TP for your phone bills.

As for Insurance, use the Maybankard 2 Visa or MasterCard which earns you 1X TP (equivalent to about 0.5% returns which is the norm anyway.

Having said the above, break down you expenses and do a comparison with OCBC Titanium MasterCard where it earns you 5% for petrol and phone bills (for your case) and other general transactions 1%. Unless your insurance with GE, then get OCBC GE card.

Read the links I stated in my earlier reply to vinothrao84

4. Existing credit cards if any:Nil.
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Citibank, CIMB, Maybank
6. Others: I always on Business trip to oversea. Need the universal credit card.
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: RM1K to RM10K

Firstly, with your income I wonder if you can get a credit card with credit limit RM10K. Read this thread.. You are eligible for credit cards from 2 banks. Go read first post where I have link to my article on Entry Level Cards.

Universal card - any Visa or MasterCard credit card and debit card will do. But if you want high credit limit, go with American Express charge card.

ya, i read it just now, and i still new to CC,  i just curous

my basic annual income =34k la..if plus allowance, then it will different, it will around 90K ald, But my allowance not stated in salary. that why hard for me to prove it.

if so, then i reset card credit to RM1K to RM5K first.

then got any recommended CC based on all my info given?

Bro, go read my article on Entry Level credit cards since you can only qualify for those and you yourself confirmed with above post.

As you mentioned, you need a universal card, any Visa or MasterCard will do (which includes debit card where you don't have any credit limit but how much cash you have). And if you read my article on entry credit cards, I am sure you will find 2 or more cards suitable for your usage which are actually very general i.e. air tickets, shopping and overseas transaction.

For Petrol UOB One Card will be good where you earn 5% cash back; but, for general transactions do note that the UOB One Card only earns you a miserable 0.3%. I guess you should get Maybankard 2 Cards where you can use the AMEX for petrol and air tickets and at places that accept AMEX and earn 5X Treats Points. For places that don't accept AMEX, you still got either Visa or MasterCard where you can earn 1X TP (which is the norm anyway and even better than UOB 0.3% cash back). And best of all, it is free for life (you still got to pay RM50 GST for two cards).

1. Annual Income: RM30K to RM36K (basic only) || RM36K to RM48K (with allowance)
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must
3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate Only, AirMiles, Overseas Transactions, Free LCCT Lounge Access and dining/shopping discount (if any).
4. Existing credit cards if any: Supplement card - CIMB visa signature (more than 4 months, previously was platinum about 1 year)
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Any bank
6. Others: Prefer cash back / rebate card
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: 700 - 1500
*
For cash rebate cards, please click here to my Page of Cash Back at my blog. Looks like your case you can either go with HLB Essential or OCBC Titanium MasterCard which earns you 1% cash back for general transactions and also earns you about the same with your CIMB Supp card for overseas transactions.

As for Airmiles, PLEASE read the 1st post. As for LCCT airport lounge, technically you don't qualify for any cards. Click here to read on cards that grants you free entry to LCCT Plaza PRemium Lounge.o. You can try apply AMEX Kris Flyer, annual income requirement RM48K and you can always try to apply for any of the cards mentioned.

Hi Gen-X, generally, my expenses break down will be something like this.
Petrol - RM 300
Insurance - RM 350
Phone Bill - RM 110

i was told to consider Maybankard by my colleagues too..  my concern is not about earning points, but rather the rebate + waving the annual fees and GST will be my priority..
*
Bro, why you so lazy go compare yourself. I must start charging you for my free service, hahaha

With UOB One Card, above you earn Petrol RM15, Telephone RM2.2, Insurance Rm1.05. Total RM18.25

With OCBC TMC, above you earn Petrol RM15, Telephone RM5.5, Insurance Rm3.5. Total RM24

With MBB 2 AMEX, Cash Back Petrol RM15. Treat Points MBB 2 AMEX Petrol 1500TP, Telephone 550TP (if you can charge it on a Saturday and Sunday you earn extra 5% cash back). Insurance with MBB 2 Visa or MC 350TP; total TP = 2400 or RM12 (based on 10,000 TP to offset RM50GST). Total rebate RM27

read your review on HLB like not so good...

between MBB, UOB and OCBC... which 1 provide the most benefits?

I want cash back with those rebates at dining. like Citibank if not mistaken. Saw their banner outside of restaurant/cafe.
*
what you mean by benefits? if you meant cash back for dining, MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5% for any transactions of Saturdays and Sundays and OCBC TMC 5% cash back everyday.

If you are talking about discount/cash back at selected restaurants, well almost all credit cards got promotions (please not most are limited time offer). So what you should do is go find out if your favorite restaurants have any discount with any credit cards. For example, my RHB gives me 15% cash back at selected restaurants but I don't patronize them, so the RHB card is useless to me. On the other hand, I do get discount with my CIMB cards at my favorite restaurants. My advise is that you go to the bank website and read more on limited time promotions.

- Petrol
- Cash Back/Rebate
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil blush.gif
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Prefer Maybank or RHB. Will consider from other banks.
6. Others:
- Fresh graduate (just started working last 6 months ago)
- Currently working at a new company without payment slip, but i still can use my bank statement as a proof right?
- Primary reason to have a credit card: wanted to build my history with CC and wanted to buy a laptop with 0% Instalment, pay monthly for 12-18 months.
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card:
- One time purchase of a laptop worth around RM3k-6k
- Monthly: Less than RM1k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: best if no fee but 0% monthly payment is more important than annual fee.
3. Card required for: Cash Back/Rebate
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil. Settled the cards now no credit card at all.
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Don't know.
6. Others: Looking to have a principal with a supplementary, and have a one time purchase of a camera & laptop, probably about 10K in total, want to pay in 24-36 months plan with 0%/lowest interest rate
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: A one time purchase of 10K and then the rest of the months would be less than rm500

*must you be related in order to apply for supplemental under the principal card?
*
Since both of you want a credit card just for installment plan, I will reply in one go.

Go get Maybankard 2 Cards (click here to read more about it).

The Maybankard 2 Cards is FREE FOR LIFE and with the Maybankard 2 AMEX, you can earn 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays with any transactions in addition to 5X Treats Points. And best of all, you get a AMEX and Visa or MasterCard for a single GST of RM50.

Click here to see places where you can use the MBB 2 AMEX to earn you 5X treats points AND 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays.

Also many merchants offer 0% installment with Maybank credit cards. And some merchants also offer 0% installment for
Maybankard 2 American Express which is great since we can earn 5X Treats Points with it.

Click here to see where you can get 0% installment plan with Maybankard 2 AMEX.

Dell also accept Maybank Visa or MasterCard for their installment plans.

voidbutterflyx: Not many merchants offer 24 to 36 months 0% installment plans for computers or electrical goods. Moreover, I would not recommend going for 24 months and above installment plans for computers because you'll be like still paying for something that will become obsolete and may even be spoiled in 2 years time. My principal is if you don't have the cash on hand to pay for non-durable stuff, it means you cannot afford it and spending beyond your means. Having said that, 0% installment plans are great to earn us some pocket money.

And it is not necessary for one to be related to get a supp card;but, in my opinion, a guy should not issue his GF a supp card whistling.gif

Maybank should pay Gen-X some commission for the free marketing on MBB2 AMEX Visa/Mastercard. rclxms.gif

haha, would love that since I need some income.

But because we all are unbiased in our recommendation, it does shows that Maybankard 2 Card is indeed great for general local transactions at places that accept AMEX. If some other bank(s) were to pay me something, then my recommendation might me different where I would highlight the benefits of their cards instead of promoting MBB 2 for FREE laugh.gif

Bro, from the bottom of my heart, a big sincere thank you for your thoughts. It means a lot to me to be appreciated; and, having the Elite Tag ( the ultimate honour in this forum) is worth much more than some temporary money gain that I'll burn off anyway biggrin.gif

QUOTE(voidbutterflyx @ Jan 9 2012, 05:29 PM)
actually, I'll be able to pay for the laptop by next month, just wondering if it would be better to pay with the credit card using 0% installment or cash. I was thinking of using the card and keep the cash in my bank account, use it to pay for the card every month instead of one large sum. I don't know if it makes a difference, but just to note, I'm getting an apple. I hope they do offer 0% installment plans, have to check.

If I swipe for 5k with a 0% 12 months installment, at the end of the 11th/12th month, can I do a 0% balance transfer to another bank for another 6-12 months?  blink.gif can it work that way? hahaha.
Hahaha, I agree.  tongue.gif but I think even if it's family also quite susah.  sad.gif
*
Wonderful, you're on the right track as far as earning pocket money from credit card is concerned. By depositing RM10K in FD for a month at 3% interest, you can earn about RM25/month pocket money. Of course, you also have to consider how convenient it is for you to go to the bank. If it cost you RM10 for petrol and parking, wasting time. If the bank is beside your office, fantastic.

And if you had read the link I provided earlier to you, you'll note for Apple products, where you can get it at Harvey Norman and Machines, where they are suppose to be offering 0% installment plan with AMEX.

Once again, here if FREE promotion for MBB 2 AMEX. Say you getting a MacBook Pro at RM5,499, it means with the Maybankard 2 AMEX, you'll earn 27495 Treats Points which is more than enough to offset the RM50GST for 2 years or you can redeem for more than RM100 worth of cash vouchers. And since the Maybankard 2 Cards is FREE for Life (i.e. no annual fee), you'll be really getting the cards at no cost but actually can earn from it (and I have yet to include the 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays).

So, yes, like I said, 0% installment is great for those who have cash prior to their purchase.

Hi hi, as with the others need help selecting a card.

1. Annual Income: RM60K-RM70K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate Only, Overseas Transactions, Free LCCT Lounge Access, online purchases, usual groceries,

4. Existing credit cards if any: HSBC Amanah-i Gold Card (in process of upgrading to platinum), thinking of getting rid of it, not beneficial for me.

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Maybank2, OCBC Titanium

6. Others: Want to use the cards for the basic payments, petrol and bills. And as a backup when I travel overseas (2-3 times a year). Would be good to earn some money from it as well biggrin.gif

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: RM1K to RM5K

Thanks for the help Gen-X. The blog's helpful as well, but too much information to take in.
*
For your case, since you do spend above RM1K, get both the Maybankard 2 Cards and OCBC Titanium MasterCard and get to earn up to RM100 per month smile.gif But non of these cards grant you free access to LCCT PPL. Go to Airport Lounge Thread to read more on cards that allows you LCCT PPL or my blog.

And also click here to read more about Platinum cards. For LCCT, you can consider AMEX Kris Flyer, Citibank PremierMiles and Citibank Platinum. Once again go to my blog and read more about it.

Bro, you go want Cash Back and Points right. Then look into

1. Maybankard 2 Card which earns you 5X TP everyday with the MBB 2 AMEX and 5% Cash Back on Saturdays and Sundays. But I noted since you want CIMB Petronas, please note most Petronas do not accept AMEX.
2. Alliance Bank Credit Card (FREE with 12 swipes), earns you cash back based on Tiers (petrol too) and cash back 1X points but not for petrol.

CIMB Petronas is good if you only pump at Petronas where you can get 2% cash back and on 1st of the month 5% cash back.

HSBC non islamic cards earns you reward points but you get nothing for petrol unless there is a promotion.
HSBC Islamic Card are cash back cards - you go to HSBC website and check for yourself if you get cash back for petrol, I too lazy go find out.

Go to 1st post and click on Entry Level Cards to read more on other cards.

If purely for Petrol read this thread and click here also to read my article The Best Credit Cards for Petrol. I think I posted both links at 1st page. All the cards are accepted worldwide.

What do you think about my plan to get rid of HSBC Gold? Have never joined any contests, especially the "SMS to join" ones. Ditch/Keep? Plus the Takaful Card Protection eats up any cashback I get.

What if I want to limit to 1K spending monthly? Still get both the cards?

Thanks once again! Will read up on the platinum cards!
*
Bro, if the HSBC card really do not benefit you, what is the point of you keeping it?

If for 1K spending, it still depends on where you spend your money. If for Petrol, groceries, TNB, Telco, Astro and Dining, then OCBC Titanium MasterCard earns you 5% cash back everyday versus Maybankard 2 Cards on Saturdays and Sundays only. Go read OCBC Titanium MasterCard Thread and Places to use AMEX Thread to get idea where you can benefit from the cards.

If you are earning RM30K or close to it, try apply for Maybankard 2 Cards as it does earn you 5% cash back on weekends on top of 5X Treats Points.

However, if your income is less than RM30K, besides UOB I can't really think of another card that can earn you 5% for petrol everyday. Please go to 1st post and click on link to my article titled Entry Level Cards and see if any card can benefit you. Also go to Petrol Thread on cards that do earn you more than 1% cash back. And if you pump at Esso, maybe Public Bank Esso Debit card can benefit you more.

Please read the last 2 pages and you will see examples, especially Post#1085 and 1086.

UOB One Card as it earns you 5% cash back at Petronas everyday of the year. And the UOB One Card does earn you 2% cash back for Groceries. Also click on the link above in my reply to LM Tan to my Cash Back Credit Cards Page at my blog to read more about cash back cards and see comparison table. the Maybankard 2 AMEX will not be suitable for you as most Petronas do not accept it and if it does, you only earn 5% on weekends.

If you want reward points and cash back, then the card to get is Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday and additional 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays. But noted you have Petronas Card and the AMEX may not be accepted at Petronas. However, it would be the easy for you to get since you already have a Maybankard. Go to One Utama or KLCC and you be issued the card within 2 hours.

Click here to read about 1 day approval for Maybankard 2 Cards.

However, if it is not convenient for you to get groceries and pump petrol at other stations on Saturdays and Sundays at places that accept AMEX, consider the OCBC Titanium MasterCard wher you earn 5% cash back everyday for Dining, Petrol at all stations, groceries and utility bills.

Click here to read my review on the Maybankard 2 Cards comapring to OCBC Titanium MasterCard. When you are at my blog, also click on link to read more about OCBC Titanium MasterCards.

Also please check out Places that accept AMEX Thread and OCBC TMC Thread where you can see places you can benefit with these cards.

From the cards you are looking at, consider Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX earns you 5% cash back every Saturday and Sundays on top of 5X TP.

However, if the merchants you patronize do not accept AMEX, e.g. Petronas and Online transaction, you still can use the Maybankard 2 Card Visa or MC which earns you 1X TP which I believe is better than your current PBB card with your current spending.

Another card you should consider is OCBC Titanium MasterCard which earns you 5% cash back everyday (no points) for Groceries, Petrol, Telco, Utility and Dining. Other 1% cash back, much better than PBB. Only thing is the cash rebate is capped at RM60/month.

Once gain, please click here to my Cash Back Cards Page at my blog to see comparison of cards.

Since income was left blank, it shall be assumed that he/she can qualify for all credit cards.

The card to get is Maybankard 2 Card where you get 5X Treat Points everyday and RM50 cash back. Can use points to redeem for cash vouchers too.

Also, with the Maybankard AMEX or Visa, many merchants offer installment free plans and outlets like Harvey, Courts, Carrefour and SenQ do have up to 36 months installment plans.

Click here to read my review on Maybankard 2 Cards.

For using points to pay for items, please click here to read my article Apple iPad2 for RM999 with Maybankard 2 AMEX and On The Spot Redemption.

Please read my above reply to MYstombox where you have similar requirements.

As for S$24K, it means nothing to me, you got to go ask the bank what requirements they need for your case.

I have to choose between ocbc titanium or pb esso...but looking at pb esso, the card has tier in % of spending but ocbc just flat rate, isnt?

Yes, PBB ESSO's rebate based on tiers. OCBC 5% cash back is applicable to any petrol station everyday and great when you go outstation.

For you case, go get Maybankard 2 Cards and OCBC Titanium MasterCard and start earning back 5%smile.gif However, please note that the max cash back for both these cards are RM50/month. So if you can plan when to spend RM2K/month, you can earn RM100/month in cash back or RM1200/year smile.gif

First thing to do is click here to my Cash Back Page at my blog and see the table comparing cash back cards. From here, list out your monthly expenses and see which card benefit your most.

After you have read the cards I mentioned in above link, and you have some idea on benefits of different cards, then click here to read my article Earn Pocket Money with Credit Cards.
